An all-new episode of “Food Exposed with Nelufar Hedayat” will air Tuesday, April 24th at 8:00 pm ET/PT on FUSION. Around the world, traditional crops are being abandoned in favor of using genetically modified organisms (GMOs), as the food industry seeks to combat disease and drought, heighten efficiency and increase profits. In “GMOs,” Nelufar travels across the globe to discover how GMOs, manufactured by giant agro-technology companies like Monsanto, are taking over the world. In the depths of the Arctic Circle, Nelufar visits the Global Seed Vault, a repository which aims to protect every seed in the world and may hold the key to feeding future populations. Fast and Furious star, Jordana Brewster, is passionate about kicking back against GM culture, so she and Nelufar visit a farmers’ market in LA to talk pesticides, labeling and the dangers of monocultures.

But in Argentina, Nelufar sees for herself how productive monoculture growing can be, visiting a country that was saved from economic ruin by the advent of GM soy. Here she meets doctors doing pioneering research into high rates of cancer and birth defects, and the families affected. Yet in the fields of Uganda, scientists testing a new GM drought-resistant maize think it might hold the key to feeding a starving country caught in the midst of a devastating drought. The series dives head-first into a contentious debate: can GMOs be used to feed the starving of the Earth, or are they the product of evil corporations with potentially lethal consequences for humans and the environment?

An all new episode of “Food Exposed with Nelufar Hedayat” will air Tuesday, April 17th at 8:00 pm ET/PT on FUSION. Water rights are a universal issue and even some in the U.S. are fighting for regular access to clean, safe drinking water.  Companies are racing to secure ownership of natural water resources around the world, whether for infrastructure, agriculture or even to sell as bottled water. Yet, close to home, communities are finding themselves without any tap water to drink, while the urban trend for fashionable bottled water brands in the U.S. only grows. In “Water,” Nelufar explores the fundamental question: who has the right to water?
Nelufar’s journey begins in California, where she visits with the Winnemem Wintu, a native tribe nestled in the foothills of the iconic Mount Shasta. Water is at the heart of the tribe’s cultural and religious practice, yet Chief Caleen Sisk reveals how water-diversion schemes by big business and government are threatening their homes, food and very way of life. Next, Nelufar meets Hollywood legend, James Cromwell, who has just been on trial for his activism about water, and he shows her the side effects of a new power plant on reservoirs providing water to New York City.  Further from home, a booming agriculture industry is thriving in the middle of the Peruvian desert, but it is draining the region dry and tensions are at boiling point.  Here, agribusinesses are threatening the livelihoods of some of the world’s most vulnerable people to cater to the West’s year-round demand for thirsty crops such as asparagus, pomegranates and grapes.

GOT MILK? GOT TROUBLE! SUPERSTAR MOBY JOINS NELUFAR HEDAYAT TO DISCUSS THE SHOCKING PRACTICES ON DAIRY FARMS IN THE NEWEST EPISODE OF 'FOOD EXPOSED WITH NELUFAR HEDAYAT’ AIRING TUESDAY, APRIL 10 @ 8PM ET/PT

(L-R) Host Nelufar Hedayat; Host Nelufar Hedayat and Moby in “Food Exposed”

An all new episode of “Food Exposed with Nelufar Hedayat” will air Tuesday, April 10th at 8:00 pm ET/PT on FUSION. Milk is one of our most celebrity-endorsed products but behind these smiling stars lurks a reality which is far less glamorous. In “Dairy,” Nelufar travels across the U.S. to learn about the practices in the dairy industry that produce the milk that millions of Americans buy each day at the grocery store.  On a large dairy farm in California, Nelufar is shocked by the scale such farms operate on – thousands of cows are milked three times a day, their sole purpose to provide milk for human consumption.
Meeting with an undercover investigator reveals the impact of keeping costs low – sick badly nourished cows suffering from mastitis are fed hormones and milked intensively producing pus-filled milk and leaving the cows weak and sick.  Sick animals don’t get the medicine they need, and are left to suffer before being taken to slaughter.  At animal refuge Farm Sanctuary, Nelufar meets with founder Gene Baur and superstar supporter, Moby, who explain that there are practically no laws in the US to protect farm animals, and the shocking practices they endure are all legal. Perhaps most alarmingly, the dairy industry produces more and more milk each year, but milk consumption in the US has been declining since the 1970s.  This has led to an excess of milk in America – 43 million pounds of fluid milk were dumped manure pits and rivers in 2016.

Finale Episode - Sommelier/Salsa Dancer
David “Big Papi” Ortiz gets his drink on in an attempt to find new work. A great lover of wine, he tests if his palate is sensitive enough to become a sommelier. Learning the differences between varietals and being trained to tell a cabernet sauvignon from a merlot is only the beginning, though. He must then work with a kitchen and figure out which wines to serve with which food. For his next job, Papi lets his feet do the work, hitting the dance floor to become a salsa dancer. Although he has a great sense of rhythm, dancing is harder than it seems. Will he become a dance machine – or trip over his own feet?

ABOUT THE SERIES
“Big Papi Needs a Job” follows David “Big Papi” Ortiz, one of the most decorated and beloved players in Red Sox history, as he embarks upon the post-baseball phase of his life. The 10-part half-hour series follows the all-star as he seeks gainful employment ─ exploring a range of different professions ─ and sometimes learning not everything comes as natural to him as America’s favorite pastime.

Each episode follows “Big Papi” as he embraces a new job that piques his interest—from heading back to his old stomping grounds of Fenway Park to be a tour guide, to trying out his skills as a dog groomer, manicurist and musician. After initial training, he’ll be thrust into line of duty, quickly learning how to sink or swim as he's put to task. Along the way, we'll hear from his on-the-job managers and clients to hear what they think of Big Papi's work and, most importantly, if they think he has a future in the industry. With Ortiz's up-for-anything attitude and all-star personality, each week "Big Papi Needs a Job" promises to be an adventure like no other.

David Ortiz has created a name for himself on the baseball field by being one of the most successful players, not only in Red Sox history, but throughout the sport of baseball. His heroics in ending the Red Sox World Series curse in 2004 and record-breaking MVP performance in the 2013 World Series have earned him legendary status as one of Boston’s greatest sports heroes on field and off. A ten-time All-Star and three-time World Series Champion, Ortiz is recognized as one of the greatest and most popular players of this era. He holds the all-time record for most hits and home runs by a designated hitter and in 2015 became the 27th player in baseball history to join the 500 Home Run club.

“Big Papi Needs a Job” is a FUSION Original Series produced in conjunction with Matador Content.
