LOS ANGELES - January 6, 2018 - SHOWTIME has announced the premiere dates of two of its returning drama series: the second season of I'M DYING UP HERE will premiere on Sunday, May 6 at 10 pm. ET/PT, and the fourth season of the Golden Globe(R) Award winning drama series THE AFFAIR returns on Sunday, June 17 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The announcement was made today by David Nevins, President and CEO, Showtime Networks Inc. at the 2018 Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour.
THE AFFAIR stars Golden Globe nominee Dominic West, Golden Globe winner Ruth Wilson, Emmy(R) Award nominee Maura Tierney and Screen Actors Guild Award(R) nominee Joshua Jackson. THE AFFAIR explores the emotional and psychological effects of an affair that destroyed two marriages, and the crime that brings these individuals back together. Season four finds Noah (West), Helen (Tierney), Alison (Wilson) and Cole (Jackson) in their own orbits, alienated from each other, spinning further and further away from where they all began. Every character is involved in a new relationship, forcing them each to decide if they're ready and willing to leave the past behind for good - a season about new beginnings, tragic ends and the ever-elusive possibility of forgiveness. Sanaa Lathan joins season four as Jenelle, the tough-as-nails principal of the charter school where Noah teaches. Ramon Rodriguez stars as Ben, a Marine veteran now employed by the VHA and Alison's new love interest. Additional season four guest stars include Russell Hornsby, Christopher Meyer, Amy Irving and Phoebe Tonkin. THE AFFAIR is currently in production in New York and Los Angeles. [via press release from Showtime] SHOWTIME(R) PICKS UP "I'M DYING UP HERE" FOR SECOND SEASON
Drama Series From Executive Producer Jim Carrey Will Go Back Into Production This Year For A 2018 Return
LOS ANGELES - September 8, 2017 - SHOWTIME is picking up its drama series about the art of comedy, I'M DYING UP HERE, for a second season, it was announced today by Gary Levine, President of Programming, Showtime Networks Inc. The fictional series explores L.A.'s famed '70s stand-up comedy scene. Season one starred Academy Award(R) winner Melissa Leo (The Fighter, Treme), Ari Graynor (Bad Teacher), Michael Angarano (The Knick), Clark Duke (Hot Tub Time Machine), Andrew Santino (Mixology), Erik Griffin (Workaholics), RJ Cyler (Power Rangers), Al Madrigal (The Daily Show) and Jake Lacy (Obvious Child) as part of a large ensemble cast. Created and executive produced by Dave Flebotte and executive produced by Golden Globe(R) winner Jim Carrey, Michael Aguilar and Christina Wayne, the series will go back into production in the fall, with 10 episodes premiering in 2018.
"It is gratifying that so many comedians tell us this series really nailed the comedy club experience," Levine said. "The talented ensemble of I'M DYING UP HERE, led by the brilliant Melissa Leo, and an equally skilled creative team behind the scenes, tell stories that scale the heights of comedy and the depths of drama, often at the same time. Having heard their plans for season two, I'm excited about the journeys these characters will take and the new ground the show will break."
I'M DYING UP HERE delves into the inspired, damaged and complicated psyches of those who stand alone in front of an audience "dying" for fame, fortune and, with any luck, a shot on Johnny Carson. This fictional group of competitive but close-knit comedians is mentored by "Goldie" (Leo), a brassy comedy club owner who rules over her business with an iron fist, but nurtures her comedians with tough love. The series takes viewers behind the curtain of the comedy scene that birthed the careers of legends such as Richard Pryor, Robin Williams and David Letterman, showing there's truly no such thing as an easy laugh. In season one, "Goldie" balanced the demands of her comics and the club, "Cassie" (Graynor) emerged from the Cellar with a renewed voice, "Bill" (Santino) finally got Carson's couch, Boston besties "Eddie" (Angarano) and "Ron" (Duke) traveled an uncertain road toward success that jeopardized their friendship, "Ralph" (Griffin) confronted old ghosts, "Adam" (Cyler) saw his ego threaten his rising stardom, "Edgar" (Madrigal) finally got some respect and "Nick" (Lacy) kicked a nasty habit - but how a burning development in the season finale will affect everyone at Goldie's remains to be seen. Produced by SHOWTIME, I'M DYING UP HERE is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by William Knoedelseder.

The fifth episode -- which marks the debut of series star Jake Lacy (Obvious Child, The Office) as bad boy comic "Nick," who returns to town with some tricks, and secrets, up his sleeve - will be available for early sampling starting today, ahead of its on-air debut on Sunday, July 9 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Consumers who do not subscribe to SHOWTIME can now watch episodes 1-5 for free on YouTube and SHO.com. Consumers can also sample the I'M DYING UP HERE episodes across multiple television and streaming providers' websites and applications and their free On Demand channels.

Since its premiere, I'M DYING UP HERE has taken viewers behind the curtain of the famed Los Angeles '70s stand-up comedy scene that birthed the careers of legends such as Richard Pryor, Robin Williams and David Letterman. The fictional series explores this storied heyday, but its core themes - fighting, struggling, striving, for a spot on the main stage and a chance at superstardom - remain resonant. Academy Award(R) winner Melissa Leo (The Fighter, Treme) channels Goldie, owner of the eponymous club where the comics hone their craft while waiting for the nod that they pray will earn them a coveted spot on Johnny Carson's couch. Every night is make or break, to the death and no laugh ever comes easy. Upcoming episodes find Nick's (Lacy) arrival setting off the comics in unintended ways: Goldie and Cassie (Ari Graynor) harnessing their inner girl power on a much bigger stage, Edgar/Manny (Al Madrigal) tagging along on a disastrous and comical road trip with Ralph (Erik Griffin), Eddie (Michael Angarano) and Ron (Clark Duke) with complicated love lives at parallel career crossroads, Goldie and Barton (Obba Babatundé) warring over Adam (RJ Cyler), and Bill (Andrew Santino) weathering a devastating loss. The season finale will air Sunday, August 13.
I'M DYING UP HERE is created and executive produced by Dave Flebotte and executive produced by Golden Globe(R) winner Jim Carrey, Michael Aguilar and Christina Wayne. AMERICAN JIHAD
Premieres: Saturday, March 11th at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT)
Visit: http://www.sho.com/documentaries
AMERICAN JIHAD (wt) is a compelling new documentary from Showtime Documentary Films which explores home-grown Jihadism and how young men are radicalized to commit violent acts of terrorism and what can be done to prevent it. Through intimate personal stories, we witness the havoc it creates in the lives of their families and the destruction of their communities. AMERICAN JIHAD will premiere on SHOWTIME on March 11 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on-air, online and On Demand, and will serve as the closing night film at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in late February. AMERICAN JIHAD offers an inside look at Jihadism from former Jihadists and those deeply affected by its practices. By analyzing the strategic outreach and specifically online tactics that terrorists employ in order to reach susceptible members of society, experts weigh in on what actions those in power can take to help prevent the phenomenon of domestic Jihadism from occurring. The documentary also explores the impact of Anwar al-Awlaki, a U.S. citizen identified by the CIA as an al-Qaeda leader whose charismatic, highly personal recruitment tactics were responsible for influencing other Americans to the Jihadist cause. As the first American-born terrorist targeted and killed by a U.S. drone strike overseas, his death held worldwide political implications and invigorated the momentum of U.S. radicalism. From Film 45, CBS Films, 60 Minutes and Jigsaw Productions, AMERICAN JIHAD was directed by Alison Ellwood (History of The Eagles, Magic Trip), and produced by Sarah Dowland (Zero Days). The film is executive produced by Oscar(R)-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side, Going Clear, Zero Days) and Stacey Offman of Jigsaw Productions, along with 60 Minutes' Michael Radutzky and Jeff Fager, and Film 45's Matt Goldberg, Brandon Carroll and John Logan Pierson. Richard Perello serves as co-executive producer. AMERICAN JIHAD was inspired by the critically-acclaimed feature film PATRIOTS DAY directed by Peter Berg and starring Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, Kevin Bacon, J.K. Simmons and Michelle Monaghan, about a community's extraordinarily courageous response to the homegrown terrorism that precipitated the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

JACKSON
World Premiere: May
Visit: http://www.sho.com/documentaries
Abortion remains legal in the United States but anti-abortion efforts have succeeded in making it virtually inaccessible in some places and in the Deep South, often unthinkable. At one time Mississippi had fourteen abortion clinics. Now only one remains. Since the passage of Roe v. Wade more than four decades ago, the self-labeled "pro-life" movement has won significant cultural, political and legal battles. Now, the stigma of abortion is prolific in Mississippi where women in poverty and women of color are particularly vulnerable. JACKSON is wrought with the racial and religious undertones of the Deep South and explores the nuanced nature of abortion in America's Bible Belt. Shannon Brewer is the director of Jackson Women's Health Organization, the only remaining abortion clinic in the state. Barbara Beaver runs the Center for Pregnancy Choices and is a leader of the anti-abortion movement in Mississippi. April Jackson is a young mother of four children faced with another unplanned pregnancy. JACKSON is an intimate, unprecedented look at the lives of three women caught up in the complex issues surrounding abortion access. Set against the backdrop of the fight to close the last abortion clinic in Mississippi, JACKSON captures the essential and hard truth of the lives at the center of the debate over reproductive healthcare in America.

SHOWTIME Sports(R) presents a powerful new documentary, PRISON FIGHTERS: 5 ROUNDS TO FREEDOM, which examines a controversial practice in Thailand's criminal justice system whereby inmates can earn their freedom by winning a series of Muay Thai fights. A SHOWTIME Sports original production, the 90-minute film will premiere on Friday, February 24th at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME. The state-sponsored rehabilitation program, popularly known as Prison Fight, is not reserved for petty criminals. Under the law, violent criminals, including those convicted of murder and sexual assault, have been freed and, in some cases, fully absolved of their crimes through their participation in Prison Fights. "This story is unlike anything we've ever encountered," said Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports. "Redemption is a common metaphor in sports stories, but this is a story about actual redemption and rehabilitation, with prisoners literally fighting for their release from prison. This film brings viewers inside a personal story of crime and punishment, set against a societal debate about the meaning of justice, rehabilitation and the opportunity for a second chance." Narrated by Ron Perlman, PRISON FIGHTERS centers on the story of Noy Khaopan, a convicted murderer serving time in the Khao Prik Prison in Thailand. Viewers will follow Noy's journey through Prison Fight and hear from his family, as well as from the heartbroken family of Noy's victim. Ultimately, Noy's freedom rests on one final fight, which poses a critical question: Can violent men redeem themselves through violent acts? But while Noy and other inmates fight literally for their freedom, the Prison Fight program has also attracted professional Muay Thai fighters from around the world eager to test themselves in this unique environment. American Cody Moberly of Wichita, Kan., a professional fighter training and competing in Thailand with a redemption story of his own, serves as Noy's opponent in the final high-stakes fight. The film also focuses on former World Champion boxer "Oh" Sirimongkol Singwangcha, who now runs a training facility on the outskirts of Bangkok. Once considered Thailand's Manny Pacquiao, "Oh" was convicted of drug possession years earlier, but earned his way to freedom through the Prison Fight system. PRISON FIGHTERS: 5 ROUNDS TO FREEDOM is produced by Sports Emmy award winner Jason Bowers, written by author and Sports Emmy award-winning writer Mark Kriegel and directed by Micah Brown.

The new one-hour SHOWTIME drama series I'M DYING UP HERE explores L.A.'s famed '70s stand-up comedy scene where the careers of legends such as David Letterman, Jay Leno and Richard Pryor were launched. The series delves into the inspired, damaged and complicated psyches of those who stand alone in front of an audience "dying" for fame, fortune and, with any luck, a shot on Johnny Carson. I'M DYING UP HERE stars Academy Award winner Melissa Leo (Wayward Pines, Treme), Ari Graynor (Bad Teacher), Michael Angarano (The Knick), Clark Duke (Hot Tub Time Machine), Andrew Santino (Mixology), Erik Griffin (Workaholics), RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), Al Madrigal (The Daily Show), and Jake Lacy (Obvious Child) as part of a large ensemble cast. This fictional group of competitive but close-knit comedians is mentored by "Goldie" (Leo), a brassy comedy club owner who rules over her business with an iron fist, but nurtures her comedians with tough love. For Goldie and her crew, there's truly no such thing as an easy laugh. Recurring guest stars include Stephen Guarino (Happy Endings), Brianne Howey (Horrible Bosses 2), Jon Daly (Kroll Show), and Ginger Gonzaga (Togetherness). Guest stars include Emmy nominee Dylan Baker (The Good Wife), Oscar(R) nominee Robert Forster (Jackie Brown), Oscar nominee Cathy Moriarty (Raging Bull), with Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Martian) and Emmy Award nominee Alfred Molina (Chocolat).
Produced by SHOWTIME, I'M DYING UP HERE is created and executive produced by Dave Flebotte, and executive produced by Michael Aguilar and Golden Globe winner Jim Carrey, along with Christina Wayne for Endemol Shine Studios and Assembly Entertainment. The series is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by William Knoedelseder. The pilot was written by Flebotte and directed by Jonathan Levine. LOS ANGELES - January 9, 2017 - SHOWTIME has announced the airdates for its two highly-anticipated new series GUERRILLA and I'M DYING UP HERE. The new six-part limited event series GUERRILLA will premiere on Sunday, April 16 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME. The drama will premiere in the U.S. on SHOWTIME and in the U.K. on Sky in the same week. The new one-hour drama series I'M DYING UP HERE will premiere on SHOWTIME on Sunday, June 4 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, kicking off the network's summer line-up which will include new seasons of RAY DONOVAN, DICE and EPISODES. The announcement was made today by David Nevins, President and CEO, Showtime Networks Inc. at the 2017 Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour.
From Academy Award(R) winner John Ridley (12 Years A Slave, American Crime) comes the six-part limited event series GUERRILLA, a love story set against the backdrop of one of the most politically explosive times in U.K. history. It tells the story of a couple whose relationship and values are tested when they liberate a political prisoner and form a radical underground cell in 1970s London. Their ultimate target becomes the Black Power Desk, a true-life, secretive counter-intelligence unit within the Special Branch dedicated to crushing all forms of black activism. While the series is set against a background of social and political activism, at its heart GUERRILLA is about a relationship under pressure, and the reality that for any couple there comes a point when the choices they make have real and lasting consequences. GUERRILLA stars Screen Actors Guild Award(R) winner Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) and Babou Ceesay (Getting On). Golden Globe(R) winner Idris Elba (Luther, Beasts of No Nation) co-stars and serves as an executive producer through his Green Door Pictures. Additional cast includes Laurence Olivier Award winner Rory Kinnear (PENNY DREADFUL), Nathaniel Martello-White (Deadmeat), Daniel Mays (Line of Duty), Denise Gough (People, Places & Things), Brandon Scott (Grey's Anatomy), Zawe Ashton (Fresh Meat) and Nicholas Pinnock (Fortitude).
Along with Ridley and Elba, the executive producers on GUERRILLA are Michael J. McDonald for Stearns Castle, Patrick Spence and Katie Swinden for Fifty Fathoms and Tracy Underwood for ABC Signature. Ridley wrote the majority of the episodes and directs the first two and the finale, with Emmy(R) Award nominee Sam Miller (Luther, Fortitude, American Crime) directing the remaining episodes. GUERRILLA is a co-production between Fifty Fathoms and ABC Signature, in association with SKY UK.
