AT THE 2018 RADIO DISNEY MUSIC AWARDS
Music Legends Janet Jackson, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson Honored
Global K-pop phenomenon BTS were the big winners at the “2018 Radio Disney Music Awards” (RDMA), music’s biggest event for families, sweeping every category in which they were nominated. Additional winners included Shawn Mendes, Kelsea Ballerini, Camila Cabello and Bebe Rexha.
Taped at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, the 2018 RDMA featured the following performances: Carrie Underwood and Ludacris performing “The Champion” together for the first time live; Kelly Clarkson singing a medley of her hit songs, including “Miss Independent,” “Since U Been Gone,” “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” and “Heat,” among others; Meghan Trainor singing a mashup of “Let You Be Right,” “All About That Bass,” “Can’t Dance,” “Me Too” and “No Excuses”; Charlie Puth performing “The Way I Am”; Marshmello performing three of his hits, “Alone,” “Friends” and “Silence”; Echosmith singing a medley of “Over My Head” and “Cool Kids”; and current “American Idol” winner Maddie Poppe performing her debut single, “Going Going Gone.”
Highlights from the show included Janet Jackson receiving the first-ever “Impact” Award from long-time fans Raven-Symoné and Normani Kordei; Carrie Underwood receiving the “Hero” Award from former “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson; and Kelly Clarkson receiving the “Icon” Award from “American Idol” winner Maddie Poppe and “The Voice” winner Brynn Cartelli; members of the #BTSarmy accepting the award for “#SQUADGOALS – Fiercest Fans;” Marshmello descending from the ceiling; the cast of “Raven’s Home” rocking out to Kelly Clarkson; Carly Pearce accepting the ARDY for “The Freshest! – Radio Disney Country Best New Artist”; Max & Harvey accepting the ARDY for “Doubletap – Favorite Social Music Artist.”
The “2018 Radio Disney Music Awards” premiered Saturday, June 23, on Disney Channel and multiple Disney-branded platforms, including Radio Disney, the Radio Disney app, the DisneyNOW app and Disney.com/RDMA. Encore presentations will air throughout the weekend on SATURDAY, JUNE 23 (9:30 p.m. ET/PT), SUNDAY, JUNE 24 (11:00 a.m. ET/PT), and MONDAY, JUNE 25 (1:00 p.m. ET/PT).

Global music icon, multiple GRAMMY(R) Award winner and multiplatinum-selling artist Janet Jackson will receive the first-ever "Impact" Award at the 2018 Radio Disney Music Awards (RDMA), music's biggest event for families, airing SATURDAY, JUNE 23 (8:00 p.m. EDT/PDT), on Disney Channel as well as multiple Disney-branded platforms, including Radio Disney, the Radio Disney app, the DisneyNOW app and Disney.com/RDMA. Ms. Jackson joins previously announced honorees including Carrie Underwood, who will be receiving the "Hero" Award, and Kelly Clarkson, who will be receiving the "Icon" Award.

The "Impact" Award is in recognition of Ms. Jackson's influence on society and the world of entertainment - particularly women - across generations of fans. Artists like Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Alicia Keys have all cited Jackson as having an indelible impact on their own careers.

Janet Jackson is one of the most influential entertainers of the modern era. Her music has won her six GRAMMY Awards, two Emmy(R) nominations, a Golden Globe(R) Award, a nomination for an Academy Award(R) along with dozens of American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards. She has received accolades as an actress as well, including the NAACP Best Supporting Actor award. Janet is a published author, dancer, businessperson, philanthropist and one of the biggest-selling artists in popular music history. With sales of over 160 million records worldwide, Janet Jackson stands as one of the best-selling artists of all time with a string of hits that have left an indelible impression on pop culture. GRAMMY(R) Award-winning global superstar Kelly Clarkson is scheduled to perform a medley of her hit songs at the 2018 Radio Disney Music Awards (RDMA), music's biggest event for families, airing SATURDAY, JUNE 23 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EDT/PDT), on Disney Channel as well as multiple Disney-branded platforms, including Radio Disney, the Radio Disney app, the DisneyNOW app and Disney.com/RDMA.

Clarkson will also receive the RDMA "Icon" Award, which recognizes a distinguished artist whose career transcends popular culture and whose music is beloved by generations of Radio Disney fans. The award will honor the iconic singer and songwriter for her illustrious career and the influence she has had on the music industry.

Clarkson first skyrocketed to fame after winning the inaugural season of "American Idol" in 2002. From her debut single, "A Moment Like This," to her recently released eighth studio album, "Meaning of Life," the multiplatinum artist has dominated the Radio Disney charts, with multiple No. 1 songs. Her current singles, "Heat" and "Love So Soft," have spent a combined 19 weeks on the Radio Disney Top 30 chart.

Carlos Polanco, Boys & Girls Club National Youth of the Year, to Receive Radio Disney's Hero for Change Award

Two multiplatinum superstars - Carrie Underwood and Ludacris - are scheduled to perform the hit song "The Champion," for the first time live together, at the Radio Disney Music Awards (RDMA), it was announced today at the Radio Disney Country Stage at CMA Fest in Nashville, Tennessee.
Underwood, a seven-time GRAMMY(R) Award-winning artist, will also be honored with the "Hero" Award at the 2018 RDMA in recognition of her generosity, humanitarian efforts and dedication to supporting a myriad of charities.

The 2018 Radio Disney Music Awards' "Hero for Change" Award, honoring youth leaders, will recognize the Boys & Girls Club National Youth of the Year, Carlos Polanco. The Clifton, New Jersey, resident is a long-time volunteer at his local Boys & Girls Club and continues to make a difference while a student at Dartmouth College, organizing student programs to help first-generation Americans and low-income students.

Underwood and multi-GRAMMY Award-winning recording artist and actor Ludacris, co-wrote the anthemic track, which opened the 2018 Super Bowl and was part of the broadcast coverage of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. The song and music video continue to inspire fans around the world to celebrate champions and heroes in their own lives.

Charity work has always been a priority for Underwood and she has always used her platform to champion numerous causes she feels passionate about. Among them, she and her husband, Mike Fisher, are ardent supporters of Danita's Children, an organization dedicated to providing a nurturing environment for children and families in Haiti. She also founded her own charity in 2009, the C.A.T.S. (Checotah Animal, Town, and School) Foundation, which supports a variety of needs in her hometown of Checotah, Oklahoma.

Marshmello and alt-pop trio Echosmith have been added to the lineup of performers for the 2018 Radio Disney Music Awards (RDMA), music's biggest event for families, presented on SATURDAY, JUNE 23 (8:00 p.m., EDT/PDT), on Disney Channel as well as multiple Disney-branded platforms, including Radio Disney, the Radio Disney app, the DisneyNOW app and Disney.com/RDMA. Marshmello is a top nominee at the 2018 RDMA with four nominations: "The Bestest - Song of the Year" for "Wolves" with Selena Gomez, "The Buzz - Breakout Artist of the Year," "#SQUADGOALS - Fiercest Fans" for the Mellogang and "When the Beat Drops! - Best Dance Track" for "Silence" feat. Khalid. Since his arrival on the music scene in 2015, his YouTube channel has amassed over 2.4 billion views and over 14 million monthly subscribers. The group gained international stardom with their debut single "Cool Kids," for which they were nominated for an "ARDY" in 2015 for "That's My Jam - Best Song to Rock Out To With Your BFF," and which spent 23 weeks on the Radio Disney Top 30. GRAMMY(R)-winning pop superstar and twelve-time Radio Disney Music Award (RDMA) nominee Meghan Trainor is scheduled to perform a special medley at the 2018 RDMA, music's biggest event for families, presented on SATURDAY, JUNE 23 (8:00 p.m., EDT/PDT), on Disney Channel as well as multiple Disney-branded platforms, including Radio Disney, the Radio Disney app, the DisneyNOW app and Disney.com/RDMA. This year, Trainor is nominated in three RDMA categories: "The One - Best Artist," "#SquadGoals - Fiercest Fans" and "So Happy - Best Song that Makes You Smile" for her single, "No Excuses." Multiple-GRAMMY(R) and RDMA-nominated singer Charlie Puth is scheduled to perform at the 2018 Radio Disney Music Awards (RDMA), music's biggest event for families, on FRIDAY, JUNE 22, at the Dolby Theatre(R) at Hollywood & Highland Center(R) in Hollywood, it was announced today on Radio Disney. Puth is also nominated for "The Buzz - Breakout Artist of the Year" at the 2018 RDMA.

Puth, a multi-platinum singer, songwriter and producer, visited the Radio Disney studios and made the announcement on-air. When asked about what he's planning for his first performance at the Radio Disney Music Awards, Puth said, "I always wait until the last minute, it's way more fun for me to have it not so thought out, just really have it be all-encompassing, surrounding the musical elements and maybe I'll do something crazy, like dye my hair green."

The announcement of his RDMA performance comes on the same day as the release of his sophomore album, "Voicenotes," which immediately shot to #1 on the iTunes Album chart. Puth is a favorite of Radio Disney listeners and was nominated for two "ARDYs" in 2017. Singles, "One Call Away" and "We Don't Talk Anymore," from his 2016 debut album "Nine Track Mind," spent a combined 34 weeks on the Radio Disney Top 30 and his current single, "Done For Me," from his sophomore album has been on the Radio Disney Top 30 for five weeks. The first two singles from "Voicenotes," 2x-platinum "Attention" and platinum-certified "How Long," spent a combined 32 weeks on the Radio Disney Top 30. This summer, Puth will embark on his biggest North American tour to date, kicking off on July 13 in Boston.

The 2018 Radio Disney Music Awards (RDMA), music's biggest event for families, will take place on FRIDAY, JUNE 22, at the Dolby Theatre(R) at Hollywood & Highland Center(R) in Hollywood, California. A special telecast of the sixth annual show, "2018 Radio Disney Music Awards," will be presented on SATURDAY, JUNE 23 on Disney Channel, as well as multiple Disney-branded platforms including Radio Disney, the Radio Disney app, the DisneyNOW app and Disney.com/RDMA. The telecast will also air internationally, including in Canada, Spain, India and select countries in Latin America.

Through its commitment to music talent across pop and country genres, Radio Disney has become known as a platform that presents unique opportunities for both rising young artists and big-name stars seeking to reach new audiences and gain new fans. Through the annual RDMA show - programmed multiple times on linear and digital platforms - artists can further reach and build new audiences.

Fans around the world will be invited to vote beginning Friday, April 27 to determine which artists will win the Radio Disney "ARDY" statuette. Tickets to attend the performance-filled awards show go on sale on Friday, April 27 at Ticketmaster.com.

New and returning clients from the automotive, toy, food and entertainment categories are set to sponsor the 2018 RDMA. The uniquely positioned event, with a wide reach across multiple media channels, will be sponsored by Aquabeads(R), Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, Goldfish(R) crackers, KRAFT(R) Macaroni and Cheese Shapes, Nintendo's Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze video game on the Nintendo Switch, and The Walt Disney Studios.

Den of Thieves, the production company that has delivered some of the biggest moments in live event television, returns for the fourth consecutive year to produce the 2018 RDMA, with Jesse Ignjatovic and Evan Prager returning as the show's executive producers. Den of Thieves' credits include multiple awards shows and specials including "MTV Video Music Awards," "iHeartRadio Music Awards," "MTV Movie Awards," ABC's "The Gong Show" revival, "The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60," "CMT Music Awards" and the multi-network broadcast of "Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Relief."

The 2017 RDMA featured memorable musical performances and appearances including a surprise tribute performance for Britney Spears, the recipient of the first-ever RDMA Icon Award, by her sister Jamie Lynn Spears, Hailee Steinfeld, Kelsea Ballerini and Sofia Carson. Other standout moments included performances by Alessia Cara, who has since won the Grammy(R) Award for Best New Artist; Kelsea Ballerini, who went on to receive a CMA Award nomination for Female Vocalist of the Year; Julia Michaels, marking her first awards show performance of her chart-topping single "Issues" and since then was nominated for two Grammy Awards (Song of the Year and Best New Artist); and other fan-favorites including Sabrina Carpenter, Hailee Steinfeld and Grace VanderWaal; a "Moana" musical collaboration by Jordan Fisher, Alessia Cara, Auli'i Cravalho and Tally; and Nick Jonas receiving the RDMA Hero Award for his philanthropic work with Beyond Type 1.

Over 283 million votes from around the world were tallied last year, its highest numbers yet across six polling platforms: the Radio Disney app, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google One Box and Musical.ly. The 2017 Radio Disney Music Awards (RDMA), music's biggest event for families, adds some Disney magic to its lineup with must-see moments from "Descendants 2" and Disney's "Moana." The exclusive world premiere of "Ways to Be Wicked" from "Descendants 2," will open the RDMA featuring a first look at footage from the highly anticipated Disney Channel Original Movie with a special appearance from stars Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, Cameron Boyce and Booboo Stewart. Then, taking the stage together for the first time, Auli'i Cravalho, Alessia Cara and Jordan Fisher will perform a medley of fan-favorite songs from Disney's "Moana."

China Anne McClain, who stars in "Descendants 2" as "Uma," the daughter of Ursula from "The Little Mermaid," will be featured in the 2017 RDMA as a presenter. Additionally, audiences of the awards show telecast "Disney Channel Presents the 2017 Radio Disney Music Awards" on SUNDAY, APRIL 30 (7:00-9:00 p.m. EDT), will be given a first look at the trailer for "Descendants 2" and the trailer for the new young adult novel written by Melissa de la Cruz "Rise of the Isle of the Lost: A Descendants Novel" will also debut in the special two-hour telecast.

Auli'i Cravalho, the voice behind the title character of Disney's "Moana," and Canadian singer/songwriter and Def Jam recording artist Alessia Cara will perform the Academy Award-nominated song "How Far I'll Go." They will be joined by Hollywood Records recording artist Jordan Fisher who will perform a rendition of "You're Welcome," written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. With more music than ever, the 2017 RDMA will also include performances by Noah Cyrus, Hailee Steinfeld, Kelsea Ballerini, Julia Michaels, Sabrina Carpenter, Fitz and The Tantrums, Erin Bowman, Grace VanderWaal and Train.

Carson and Fisher will also serve as hosts of the 2017 RDMA alongside Kelsea Ballerini, Alex Aiono and Jenna Ortega.

Winners of the RDMA will be announced on SATURDAY, APRIL 29, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, with performances by some of the biggest artists along with tomorrow's rising stars in music. A special two-hour telecast, "Disney Channel Presents the 2017 Radio Disney Music Awards," will be presented SUNDAY, APRIL 30 (7:00-9:00 p.m. EDT), in the U.S. across multiple Disney-branded platforms.
