Downward Dog: SERIES PREMIERE - Pilot (5/17) on ABC

Downward Dog: SERIES PREMIERE - Pilot (5/17)

NEW COMEDY SERIES ‘DOWNWARD DOG’ WILL PREMIERE IN SNEAK PEEK, WEDNESDAY, MAY 17, ON ABC

Series Moves to Regular Tuesday Night Time Period Following Week

All-new comedy “Downward Dog” will premiere in a special sneak peek on WEDNESDAY, MAY 17 (9:30–10:00 p.m. EDT), following the season finale of “Modern Family.” (Editors, please note: “black-ish” will air its season finale Wednesday, May 10). The series, the first network comedy to have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, will move to its regular time period, Tuesday nights at 8:00–8:30 p.m. EDT, beginning May 23, on The ABC Television Network.

Based on a web series, “Downward Dog” follows the day-to-day life of Nan (Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated Allison Tolman, “Fargo”), as told by her increasingly lonely and philosophical dog, Martin (voiced by Samm Hodges). Nan attempts to juggle her tumultuous personal life with a stressful career, unjustly supervised by her self-obsessed boss. Having her story told from the canine perspective provides a uniquely unfiltered point of view that helps us laugh and cry about what it means to be a human being in the twenty-first century. It’s a show about a dog and the girl he adores, and even at their worst, Nan and Martin just might be best for one another.

In the series premiere, “Pilot,” Martin battles loneliness and the need for Nan’s unconditional attention, while she struggles with a breakup and Martin’s recent bad behavior as he reacts to her newly busy work schedule.

“Downward Dog” stars Allison Tolman as Nan, Lucas Neff (“Raising Hope”) as Jason, Nan’s ex-boyfriend; Kirby Howell-Baptiste (“Love”) as Jenn, Nan’s best friend and co-worker; and Barry Rothbart (“The Wolf of Wall Street”) as Kevin, Nan’s boss.

Guest starring Mo Collins as Kim, Maria Bamford as Pepper, DaJuan Johnson as Tristen, Rachna Katau as Gwen, and Ned as Martin.

“Pilot” is written by Michael Killen & Samm Hodges and directed by Michael Killen.

“Downward Dog” series creators Michael Killen and Samm Hodges executive produce with Mosaic’s Jimmy Miller and Sam Hansen, and Animal Media’s Kathy Dzubiek. Showrunners Kat Likkel and John Hoberg also executive produce. The series is produced by Legendary Television and ABC Studios. It is broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC’s selected HDTV format with 5.1 channel surround sound.

Join the nurses and nuns of Nonnatus House once more as they visit the expectant mothers of Poplar, providing the poorest women with the best possible care. It's now 1962 and times are changing. After receiving as SOS call from a mission hospital in South Africa, the Nonnatus family faces some of their toughest challenges yet with increasingly limited resources.

Back in Poplar, when Sister Ursula is appointed the new head of Nonnatus House, Sister Julienne finds herself demoted and working back alongside the midwives. As they strive to help mothers and families cope with the demands of childbearing, disability, disease and social prejudice, our beloved medics must make choices - and fight battles - of their own.

Inspired by the memoirs of midwife Jennifer Worth and starring Jenny Agutter (The Avengers), Charlotte Ritchie (Fresh Meat), Judy Pafitt (Little Dorrit) and Helen George (Doctors).
Back in early March we had the heads-up about a May 23rd release date for Call the Midwife - Season 6 on DVD and Blu-ray Disc. Soon after we showed off a first (low-res) look at DVD cover art for this title. Now BBC Home Entertainment has sent out finished package art, in high-res images, for both the DVD and Blu-ray Disc versions of it...and we've got them for you below.

BBC Home Entertainment is also confirming that the 3-DVD set and the 2-BD set will have the Christmas Special, as well as episodes 1-8. They give the running time for both formats as "567 mins + bonus content," but don't specify if the Christmas Special is the bonus material...or if there is some additional special features besides. If we find out, we'll let you know!

Two months ago we had the early word that Doctor Who - The 10th Series, Part 1 was in-the-works for both DVD and high-def Blu-ray Disc, with a release date of June 6th. At the time we had early "placeholder" package art for this item, but we warned you that " it may not be finalized yet and could be subject to change"...well, it has! With last Saturday's series premiere for the tenth season, the folks at BBC Home Entertainment have released new front cover art images, revised and updated to show the 12th Doctor and new companion "Bill" leaning out the front door of the TARDIS while it's out in space. You can check that out, below.

BBC Home Entertainment has confirmed the pricing of these as $24.98 SRP for the DVD set, and $29.98 SRP for the Blu-ray version. Both are 2-disc sets running 276 minutes long, and no extras are mentioned. The studio info points out that 6 episodes are included. Series 10 will have a total of 12 episodes, so it makes sense that the first six episodes will be the ones included: "The Pilot," "Smile," "Thin Ice," "Knock Knock," "Oxygen," and "Extremis." Guest stars include Stephanie Hyam, Mina Anwar (The Sarah Jane Adventures), Nicholas Burns, David Suchet, Kieran Bew, and Michelle Gomez as "Missy."

What about the second half of the season? Doctor Who - The 10th Series, Part 2 is still apparently on schedule for a possible August 1st release date, but (as we like to say!) that may not be finalized yet, and could be subject to change. It WILL be available on both DVD and Blu-ray Disc, and are also running at $24.98 SRP and $29.98 SRP, respectively. Part 2 currently has the same "placeholder" art that Part 1 originally did; we will bring you finished package images for that title once its available. For now, though, here's an Amazon.com pre-order button link for both titles in both formats. Under that is the above-mentioned finalized artwork for Doctor Who - The 10th Series, Part 1 on DVD and Blu-ray; our thanks to reader Keith Hiatt for the heads-up about it!

It's a new term at Coal Hill Academy, and students are preparing for their Autumn Prom. But when the school comes under attack from deadly monsters, four alienated students must form an unlikely alliance to defeat them.

Charlie, April, Ram and Tanya, under the watchful eye of Physics teacher Miss Quill, are now charged with a great responsibility by the mysterious alien known as The Doctor: protect Coal Hill and guard against the creatures of a nightmare that want nothing more than to find a way through to Earth and take it for their own.
In late 1963, a new show was on the air in England: Doctor Who. In "An Unearthly Child" was saw for the first time the Coal Hill Academy, a fictional school in London where Ian Chesterton (played by William Russell) and Barbara Wright (played by Jacqueline Hill) taught science and history to kids such as Susan Foreman (the Doctor's granddaughter, played by Carole Ann Ford). The school showed up again in 1988, when the Doctor and Ace (Sophie Aldred) fought for the Hand of Omega in "Remembrance of the Daleks." Later, from 2013 to 2015, we say that Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) had become a teacher at the Coal Hill Academy...and though we never saw him, there was a sign that listing "I. Chesterton" as the head of governors for the school.

In October 2016, the BBC Three ("BBC II!") streaming service in the U.K. began showing the Doctor Who spin-off series, Class, which ran for 8 episodes and guest-starred Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor in the opening story. Regular cast include Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins, Vivian Oparah, and Katherine Kelly. In Canada, the Space channel began airing Class on the same day it became available in the UK. After all eight episodes had streamed in the UK on BBC Three, it was then broadcast over the airwaves on BBC One. What about the USA? This last Saturday, when the latest (tenth) series of Doctor Who debuted, BBC America followed that premiere with the first episode of Class. No official word yet from the BBC as to whether the spin-off will get a second series or not.

In the meantime, we've found that Amazon.com has begun accepting pre-orders for the show, listed there (for now, anyway...it may not be finalized yet and could be subject to change) simply as "Doctor Who: Class." On Tuesday, July 11th BBC Home Entertainment (and North American distributor Warner Home Video) will put out these 8 episodes as 2-disc sets on both DVD format ($19.49 SRP) and high-def Blu-ray Disc format ($24.99 SRP). Details and package art haven't been made available there, nor is there any information or artwork showing so far at the various websites for BBC Home Entertainment or Warner Home Video. Stay tuned, though, and we'll update you further, as more details come out!

Static Shock's second season comes supercharged with new, dangerous metahuman menaces, an array of special guest stars, and more of its unique mix of high adventure and social drama. The stakes are higher as Static gets drafted into "The Big Leagues" when the dynamic duo - Batman and Robin - travel to Dakota in search of The Joker (Mark Hamill). "Uncle J" to the metahumans, The Joker is wreaking his own special brand of "hilarious" havoc on the citizens of Dakota, giving Static (Phil LaMarr) the opportunity of a lifetime - to team up with his favorite super hero!

Other superstar surprises this season include Static stints from none other than hoop hall-of-famer Shaquille O'Neal (Steel, 1997) and the Backstreet Boys' A.J. McLean, on hand to lend some music-career advice to Rubberband Man. Things get a little more serious in the special episode entitled "Jimmy," which addresses the issue of gun violence in school.
A month ago we brought you the great news of extras for the long-awaiting Complete 1st Season, and that Warner would continue moving forward with The Complete 2nd Season DVDs as well. The Wayans Bros.' sophomore season sees Shawn (Shawn Wayans) laid off from his job and Pops (John Witherspoon) setting him up with his own newsstand next to Pops' Diner in the lobby of the Neidermeyer. While Shawn takes on his new career with maturity and determination, a jealous Marlon struggles to make ends meet bussing tables at Pops' and working part-time for Shawn.

Sparks soon fly when the brothers meet Monique Lattimore (Paula Jai Parker), a former "little rich girl" now recruited into the ranks of the working class. While Marlon's lust for her goes unnoticed, Shawn and Monique begin a flirtatious and antagonistic relationship. He thinks she's a snob, and she thinks he's beneath her...but they can't stop thinking about each other. Keeping things secure in the Neidermeyer is 5'1" female security guard Lou Malino (Jill Tasker). Lou rules her domain with an iron fist and a very sharp tongue...something Marlon soon learns in this 3-disc, 22-episode collection.
The Complete 1st Season came out on DVD way back in early 2005. After a dozen years, Warner has announced that they are FINALLY following up with The Wayans Bros. - The Complete 2nd Season on DVD! The Warner Archive Collection will release this long-awaited title on May 9th, as a manufacture on demand item only available through online sellers, including Warner's own WBshop.com online store (see button link below). Cost is $29.99 SRP for this second of five seasons, and here's the front cover art:

Network Picks Up 12-Episode Fifth Season Of "Younger" And 20-Episode Third Season Of "Teachers" For 2018 Premieres

New Comedy "Nobodies," Exec Produced by Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone, Already Renewed For Second Season

New York, NY – April 20, 2017 – TV Land has renewed its most-watched and critically acclaimed comedies, "Younger" – which has been named "one of the juiciest comfort-watches" by BuzzFeed – and "Teachers," which The Hollywood Reporter called "a little surprise gem," it was announced today by Frank Tanki, General Manager of TV Land. "Younger," which returns June 28th for its fourth season, has been picked up for a 12-episode fifth season, while "Teachers," which returns with the back half of season two this fall, has been renewed for a 20-episode third season. This news comes on top of the early second season renewal of the newly-launched comedy "Nobodies," which stars Hugh Davidson, Larry Dorf and Rachel Ramras, and is executive produced by Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone through their production company On The Day, as well as showrunner Michael McDonald.

"We're absolutely thrilled to be bringing back 'Younger' and 'Teachers' for more seasons and double down on our dedication to creating smart, funny, honest and compelling originals," said Tanki.

Descriptions of all the series are below:

  • "YOUNGER"
"Younger," from "Sex and the City" creator Daren Star, stars two-time Tony® winner Sutton Foster, Hilary Duff, Debi Mazar, Miriam Shor, Nico Tortorella, Peter Hermann and Molly Bernard. The series follows Liza, a 40-year old woman who pretends to be 26 in order to get a job in the highly competitive world of publishing – and succeeds. Last season, as Liza continued her lie, her two lives became irreversibly intertwined – with her longtime best friend, Maggie (Mazar), new friend and partner at Empirical, Kelsey, prickly boss Diana (Shor), and everyone in between, becoming part of the same world. In the season three finale, Liza came to realize the damage her secret has caused and finally unveiled the truth to Kelsey (Hilary Duff). Now Liza will be forced to deal with the fallout of her deceit and learn that the truth hurts. Season four premieres Wednesday, June 28th at 10pm ET/PT. Season five will premiere in 2018.

  • "TEACHERS"
"Teachers" revolves around a group of elementary school teachers who are trying to mold the minds of America's youth, but don't have their own lives together at all. The series is written by and stars The Katydids – Caitlin Barlow, Katy Colloton, Cate Freedman, Kate Lambert, Katie O'Brien and Kathryn Renée Thomas – and so far in season two, great guest stars have popped up, including Haley Joel Osment ("Alpha House," "Comedy Bang! Bang!") as Mrs. Adler's husband, Ryan Hansen ("Party Down") as Ms. Snap's rival in a school council race, Jessica St. Clair ("Playing House") as the school counselor, and many more.

The rest of season two, returning this fall, will see Ms. Bennigan (O'Brien) keep naively pursuing Hot Dad (guest star Ryan Caltagirone), Mrs. Adler and Ms. Feldman (Freedman) dealing with a "serial pooper" around the school, and even an entire episode taking place in the 1940s. Season three will premiere in 2018.

  • "NOBODIES"
"Nobodies" stars and is executive produced and written by Groundlings alums Hugh Davidson, Larry Dorf and Rachel Ramras and revolves around the three as they try desperately to land one of their famous friends for a feature script that they have developed, so that they, too, can rise to fame in Hollywood. Davidson, Dorf and Ramras are partnering with their real-life friends, Emmy® winner Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone, who executive produce "Nobodies" through their production company, On The Day. Michael McDonald ("MadTV"), also a former Groundling, is showrunner and also serves as executive producer and director. Guest stars this season include McCarthy, Falcone and McDonald, as well as Kristen Wiig, Kristen Bell, Allison Janney, Jason Bateman, Maya Rudolph, Leslie Bibb, Jim Rash, Nat Faxon and many more.  "Nobodies" can currently be seen on TV Land on Wednesdays at 10pm ET/PT.
