The Super Bowl ad kicks-off the season three marketing campaign for the award-winning Hulu Original.

[via press release from Hulu]
For the third year in a row, Hulu has featured an original series in their Super Bowl ad. The 30-second spot aired during the first quarter of today's game and gave viewers a sneak peek into season three of the dystopian series The Handmaid's Tale. The Super Bowl ad kicks-off the season three marketing campaign for the award-winning Hulu Original

The Handmaid's Tale spot takes inspiration from Ronald Reagan's iconic "Morning in America" campaign commercial to creatively set-up the storyline for the upcoming season, which features themes of optimism, hope and renewal as characters attempt to take a stand against Gilead. The first sneak peek into season three shows the heroine June sharing a bold call to action for America, the country Gilead was born out of, to "Wake Up."

Season Three of The Handmaid's Tale is driven by June's resistance to the dystopian regime of Gilead and her struggle to strike back against overwhelming odds. Startling reunions, betrayals, and a journey to the terrifying heart of Gilead force all characters to take a stand, guided by one defiant prayer: "Blessed be the fight."

The spot follows last year's Super Bowl spot which introduced the world to Castle Rock and comes on the heels of Hulu's growth to more than 25 million U.S. subscribers. Below is a link to the full 30-second spot that aired during the first quarter of today's Big Game.

LOS ANGELES (January 23, 2018) - "Clear your schedule for one of the best series of 2017" (Mark A. Based on Margaret Atwood's award-winning, best-selling novel, THE HANDMAID'S TALE is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalist regime that treats women as property of the state. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss; Top Of The Lake, Mad Men) is a Handmaid in the Commander's household, one of the castes of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world.

In this terrifying society where one wrong word could end her life, Offred must navigate between Commanders, their cruel wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids - where anyone could be a spy for Gilead - with one goal: to survive and find the daughter who was taken from her. "A magnificent and effectively haunting 10-episode series" (Hank Stuever, The Washington Post), THE HANDMAID'S TALE features outstanding performances from Moss, Joseph Fiennes (American Horror Story - Asylum, Shakespeare in Love), Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck, Dexter), Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls), Madeline Brewer (Orange is the New Black), Ann Dowd (Compliance, The Leftovers), O.T. Fagbenle (The Five), Max Minghella (The Mindy Project) and Samira Wiley (Orange is the New Black).

The Handmaid's Tale - Amazon is Now Showing a 'Season 1' Version is Planned for Blu-ray Disc, Too!

No availability date yet, but Amazon is taking advance orders for DVDs and Blu-ray Discs

The Handmaid's Tale had already won 8 Emmy Awards, including "Outstanding Drama Series," "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series" (Elisabeth Moss/"Offred"), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Ann Dowd/"Aunt Lydia"), "Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series" (Alexis Bledel/"Ofglen"), and "Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series" and "Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series" (Reed Morano and Bruce Miller, respectively, both for the episode "Offred").

Now this past weekend the Hulu original program, based on Margaret Atwood's classic novel, also took home a pair of Golden Globe awards for "Best Television Series - Drama" and "Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama" (Elisabeth Moss/"Offred"). Beyond the critical acclaim and the awards, though, is the viewer popularity of the series, which has scored 92% on the Metacritic website and 95% on the Rotten Tomatoes website. It's being talked about everywhere I go, and people can't get enough of it. They're despearately waiting - like I am! - for the new season to debut this coming April.

We alerted you early this past October that Amazon.com had begun accepting pre-orders, at $39.98 SRP, for The Handmaid's Tale - Season 1 on DVD. At the time we mentioned that "There is no Blu-ray Disc pre-order listing...but MGM titles are produced and distributed by Fox Home Entertainment, and Fox is moving away from TV-BD releases, so may have decided not to create a Blu version of it." Of course, we're not sure where that distribution agreement between MGM and Fox will stand once the purchase of Fox is completed by Disney. And we're not sure what the criteria is any more for including TV-BD versions of MGM (or Fox) television titles.

But for fans of this show who want to own The Handmaid's Tale - Season 1 on high-def Blu-ray Disc, we've got great news! While the studio still hasn't formally announced the title, in ANY version, Amazon.com has now also added a pre-order listing for the item on Blu-ray format! The big e-tailer shows a list price of $49.99 SRP on a 4-disc set. They also show an early look at packaging, seen below, but it's using different key artwork that the DVD package image seen in our October report (and which Amazon's DVD listing for the title still shows). Both images may not be finalized yet, though, and could be subject to change.

Our thanks to one of our readers, "Jeff," for pointing out this change/addition in the wake of the show's Golden Globe wins. We're excited to get this on high-def Blu-ray, and we're sure we aren't alone. Stay tuned for updates, as further developments occur!

Adapted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid's Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism in its militarized 'return to traditional values'.

As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander's household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate the world. In this terrifying society, Offred must navigate between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids - where anyone could be a spy for Gilead - all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.
This past April, the Hulu-original program launched its 10-episode first season, and immediately began winning praise from critics and viewers alike. The show was nominated for 13 primetime Emmy Awards, and took home 8 of them...including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series (star Elisabeth Moss; Mad Men, The West Wing, Top Of The Lake), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Ann Dowd; The Leftovers, Masters of Sex, Quarry), and Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series (Alexis Bledel; Gilmore Girls, Mad Men, ER). The show's second season is in-the-works, and will debut on Hulu sometime in 2018.

Now Amazon.com has begun accepting pre-orders for The Handmaid's Tale - Season 1 on DVD. This listing is prior to the official MGM Home Entertainment announcement for the item, though, so instead of a street date Amazon merely says "This title has not yet been released. You may pre-order it now and we will deliver it to you when it arrives."

Pricing is available, however, at $39.98 SRP. There are no other details available so far at Amazon's entry, but there is early box art (seen below; this may not be finalized yet, and could be subject to change). There is no Blu-ray Disc pre-order listing...but MGM titles are produced and distributed by Fox Home Entertainment, and Fox is moving away from TV-BD releases, so may have decided not to create a Blu version of it. Stay tuned, of course, and we'll update you further on this title, just as soon as we find out more! Our thanks to one of our longtime readers, Bryce Novarro, for pointing it out to us.
