(New York) - Science Channel’s signature archaeology series that digs up the deepest secrets of history’s great civilizations, UNEARTHED, is returning with new episodes beginning Sunday, November 3 at 9 p.m. More than just scientific investigations, the series uses explosive animation to unearth the hidden stories of iconic monuments and tackles the mysteries behind them. Among the sites explored during the new season are the Tower of Babel, in which the UNEARTHED was granted unique access to rarely seen sites in Iraq.

Kicking off this season is an in-depth look at the lost ancient Egyptian city of Armana. This mysterious place buried deep in the desert was once a sprawling metropolis and home to Egypt’s most famous rulers, Queen Nefertiti and King Tut. Why and how did it just vanish? Today investigators journey deep inside ancient tombs to unlock the long-lost secrets of one of the darkest chapters in Egyptian history.

Other sites getting the UNEARTHED treatment this season are Hitler’s Secret Bunker, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Lost City of Troy and Mount Rushmore.

Kicking off this season is an investigation into the Titanic and its infamous demise. It was a tragedy that shocked the world, but after more than a hundred years, the exact reason why it sank remains a mystery. UNEARTHED uses the latest technology and computer modeling to learn how an iceberg ripped open the ship's colossal hull. Scientists smash ice into solid steel in powerful collision tests while nautical experts deploy advanced marine simulation technology to relive the massive ship's fateful final moments.

UNEARTHED Returns For Season 3 to Science On May 15

New Season to Investigate the Statue of Liberty, China’s Forbidden City, Pompeii, Easter Island, the Titanic, and more 

(New York) – Science Channel’s #1 archaeology series UNEARTHED returns to uncover hidden secrets of the world’s most renowned ancient monuments and civilizations. Combining scientific investigations and immersive CGI animation, the series will unlock the myths and mysteries behind iconic structures to reveal how and why they were built. An all-new season of UNEARTHED premieres Tuesday, May 15 at 9pm ET/PT on Science Channel.

Fusing elements of engineering, history, geology, and archaeology, UNEARTHED highlights the significance of magnificent constructions with stunning animation to deconstruct each build. Scientists use cutting-edge technology – including LiDAR scanning, x-ray imaging, carbon dating, forensic microscopy, and more – to expose these cryptic structures. 

The premiere episode ventures to Denmark, where archaeologists are using the latest technology to uncover the secrets of the lost fortresses of the Viking Age. These revelations, which will answer questions about why these massive citadels were built, may also help explain what brought the Viking Era to an end. This season’s other explorations include:

Statue of Liberty – It is one of the most famous sights in the world, but who is New York’s most famous lady? This enduring symbol of American freedom is not quite what she seems.  Her story stretches back to ancient Greece and Egypt. This investigation could shed some new light on a lost wonder of the ancient world – the legendary Colossus of Rhodes. 

Forbidden City of China – The royal city at the heart of Beijing is rumored to contain a much older palace that has been lost for centuries. Now archaeologists are looking for Kublai Khan’s Yuan Palace. It may have been one of the greatest palaces that ever existed, covered in gold and silver. Can new technology help scientists zero in on its hidden location? 

Easter Island – As rising tides creep up on Easter Island and threated to destroy the mysterious statues that have fascinated generations, Science Channel could be one of the last film crews to capture images there. A new dig in the center of the island is revealing a mysterious sacred site, buried and reburied over hundreds of years. Using the latest technology, archeologists look to crack the secrets of Rapa Nui to rewrite the story of this enigmatic island and why they toppled the statues they'd spent centuries creating. 


Titanic – CGI animation lifts up the wreck of the Titanic to reveal the full splendor of what was once the largest ship afloat in the world. UNEARTHED dives inside its now flooded ballroom and first-class cabins. But was it a fatal design flaw that doomed the Titanic?

Palace of Knossos – The palace at Knossos in Crete is full of secrets that have inspired many legends. Now, archaeologists are uncovering the true story behind the advanced civilization that lived there and the mega-tsunami that brought their world to an end.

Pompeii –  A major new excavation in Pompeii is revealing the ancient city’s deepest secrets. Archaeologists discover more houses and artefacts buried 2000 years ago by a devastating volcanic eruption. Did the people of Pompeii realize the danger they were in? Investigators discover why this city was built in the shadow of a volcano.

SCIJINKS (wt) - Johnny Galecki will host and executive produce SCIJINKS (wt), that will use cutting-edge science as the foundation for outrageous stunts and practical jokes to create the smartest prank show on television. LIFE ON THE LINE - The laws of physics are absolute. They bind us together and tether us to Earth. Adventurer and science enthusiast Todd Sampson puts his faith in science to the ultimate test as he stands tall against a speeding bullet, scales a building with vacuums, and faces off with a wrecking ball.

Special Programming
GREAT AMERICAN ECLIPSE - On August 21, 2017, the Great American Eclipse will cross the continental United States, an event that last happened nearly 99 years ago. Science Channel will go live during the day and feature observations from the International Space Station, a high-altitude observatory aircraft taking readings of the sun's corona, a multitude of weather balloons streaming live high altitude footage of the eclipse from the edges of space, a fleet of telescopes from 60 locations, and much more!

SILICON VALLEY (wt) - Three-part series from award-winning documentary filmmaker Michael Schwarz that will offer the definitive history of Silicon Valley. SECRETS OF THE PYRAMIDS - The recent discovery of what are thought to be the oldest known papyri in the world and were written by men who were involved in the building of the Pyramids at Giza, may reveal new secrets about the greatest mysteries of these ancient structures.
