CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED DOCU-SERIES ‘THE LAST ALASKANS’ RETURNS TO DISCOVERY CHANNEL FOR ALL-NEW SEASON THIS NOVEMBER

All-new Season Premieres Sunday, November 25 at 10pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel

(Los Angeles) – The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is the largest protected wilderness in the U.S, and in 1980, the U.S. Government banned new human occupation from the refuge, leaving only seven permits for families and trappers. These modern-day pioneers return in an all-new season of Discovery Channel’s THE LAST ALASKANS with more drive and passion than ever before. This season, they face obstacles brought on by the unforgiving environment, including rising predator competition and the aftermath of forest fires, as well as the deeply personal challenges of trying to raise small children in this world and even battling life-threatening illnesses. These families and trappers will be challenged like never before as they look to continue the unique life they’ve built in the refuge. THE LAST ALASKANS premieres Sunday, November 25 at 10pm ET/PT on Discovery Channel.

No one knows the refuge like Bob Harte. After 40 years in the Alaskan Wilderness, he calls it his country, but due to the return of his cancer, Bob must move away from the refuge and into town with his daughter and granddaughter. This season, we will follow Bob’s hard-fought battle to the end and get the chance to say goodbye. Bob’s journey in the refuge allowed him to live free – this was his home and where his heart will always be.

For Heimo and Edna Korth, this season brings an opportunity they have dreamt of for years: their daughter Krin and her family will attempt to survive a winter in the refuge. Heimo has raised all three of his daughters here, and he hopes for Krin to continue the tradition he and Edna have built over the decades. Heimo will do all he can to pass on the torch of survival to Krin, her husband Scott and their young son Colby, but it will come down to the success of their hunting and trapping season to convince her.

There’s also another new face this season, as Tyler and Ashley Selden bring their baby girl Sidney into the refuge. With a new and dependent member, the Seldens look to improve their property and try to turn it into a functioning homestead that can support a family, but they face the challenge of balancing the demands of being parents, as well as providers for their newest member.

Charlie Jagow faces one of his toughest challenges this season in the aftermath of the summer fires. He assesses the damage from a bird’s-eye view, which reveals miles of black forest. Charlie now must re-establish 40 years’ worth of family traplines, which could potentially take two decades to rebuild. It’s an impossible task, but with the help of maps and instructions Bob left behind, Charlie will follow in Bob’s footsteps and look to come out on top this trapping season.

The obstacles of this season, though significant, serve a great purpose for the families – they have a rebirth in the refuge. Through ingenuity, hard work and a bit of luck, the families work to overcome and rebuild their homes, trails and lives for the success of their future in the Alaskan wilderness.

THE LAST ALASKANS is produced for Discovery Channel by Half Yard Productions, a Red Arrow Studios Company. For Half Yard Productions, executive producers are Abby Greensfelder, Sean Gallagher and John Jones. For Discovery Channel, executive producers are Joseph Schneier and Michael Gara and associate producer is Emily Baustien.

DISCOVERY CHANNEL UNLEASHES ‘EPIC WEEK’ WITH SEASON PREMIERES, SUPERSIZED EPISODES AND ALL-NEW DOCUMENTARY SPECIAL

DISCOVERY CHANNEL UNLEASHES ‘EPIC WEEK’ WITH SEASON PREMIERES, SUPERSIZED EPISODES AND ALL-NEW DOCUMENTARY SPECIAL

‘Epic Week’ To Air Monday, April 10 to Sunday, April 16 on Discovery Channel

(NEW YORK) – Discovery Channel is rolling out an all-new marathon line-up with EPIC WEEK, a seven-day celebration featuring super-sized episodes of the network’s top series and new specials. The week-long programming block packs in 8 premieres – including fan-favorites DEADLIEST CATCH, STREET OUTLAWS, THE LAST ALASKANS, BERING SEA GOLD, NAKED AND AFRAID, NAKED AND AFRAID XL, GOLD RUSH: PARKER’S TRAIL and the complicated tale of the collapse of a historic fishery in the documentary SACRED COD. EPIC WEEK kicks off Monday, April 10 and wraps on Sunday, April 16 on Discovery Channel.

EPIC WEEK kicks into high gear with an all-day broadcast of STREET OUTLAWS on Monday, April 10 from 10AM – 9PM ET/PT that culminates with a two-hour season premiere at 9PM ET/PT. This season, the rules of the game change as the use of Pro Mods, cars modified for track use, are no longer allowed on the “list.” Now, in order to reclaim a premiere spot on OKC’s top 10 list of street racers, experienced drivers like Big Chief must find a new car and start from the bottom. This shakeup allows some of the show’s old favorites to return and some new faces to work their way onto the list.

Discovery taps the brakes on its Motor Monday lineup to dive headfirst into the 2-hour season premiere of the 16-time Emmy Award-winning series DEADLIEST CATCH on Tuesday, April 11 9 PM ET/PT. Over the past 12 years, the veteran captains thought they’ve seen it all. But this year proves to be like no other on record. Generations of fishermen have made a hard living setting out of Dutch Harbor, Alaska, one of the nation's most prolific crabbing ports. However, this year the crabs have seemingly vanished – igniting a grueling hunt to save the fleet’s way of life. After a massive temperature spike in the Bering Sea, traditional fishing hot spots are now coming up empty.  And the situation leaves everyone in the fleet – veterans and greenhorns alike – wondering what can be done to save the season?

On Wednesday, April 12, Discovery ventures North for an all-new episode of THE LAST ALASKANS at 9 PM ET/PT. The leaves are changing and the bears are out in force before bedding down for the winter but there's no rest for The Last Alaskans as they ramp up for trapping season. Heimo makes his way downriver to find that his newest cabin might have already fallen victim to a marauding bear, Tyler and Ashley begin building a near home for their growing family, and Charlie labors solo into the woods. The all-new episode is followed by a thrilling special of BERING SEA GOLD at 10 PM ET/PT.

SACRED COD, premiering Thursday, April 13, at 9 PM ET/PT, chronicles the collapse of America’s oldest fishery. Scientists and environmental advocates have attributed the decline to overfishing, government mismanagement, and climate change. Many of the fishermen – who are losing their livelihoods and way of life as the species has declined – have argued that the science is wrong and have protested the government’s ban. The film features interviews with fishermen and their families, along with scientists, advocates, and federal officials who warn that the plight of cod could be a harbinger for fish around the world as the planet warms and overfishing persists. The illuminating documentary tells a complex story that shows how one of the greatest fisheries on the planet has been driven to the edge of commercial extinction, while providing suggestions about how consumers can help support sustainable fisheries.

Discovery goes to new heights on Friday, April 14 for the two-hour season finale of GOLD RUSH: PARKER’S TRAIL at 9 PM ET/PT. To honor his grandpa, Parker Schnabel and three friends are attempting to trek, like the pioneers, from his home in Alaska across 600 miles of frozen wilderness to the legendary Dawson City where they plan to find gold and stake a claim. With 375 miles to go to finish the Klondike Trail, time is of the essence as temperatures are dropping and lakes are freezing, but when Parker falls into the frigid water they are forced to stop, the expedition becomes a matter of life or death.

EPIC WEEK races away from the trail into a three-hour STREET OUTLAWS special on Saturday, April 15 from 8PM – 11PM ET/PT.

Lastly, on Sunday, April 16, Discovery strips down for an all-new episode of NAKED AND AFRAID at 9PM ET/PT. When California Buddhist Maria and Oregon fisherman Dan test their skills against the unforgiving Australian outback, harsh conditions, scarce food sources, and saltwater crocodiles threaten their survival. But don’t get dressed just yet. An all-new NAKED AND AFRAID XL special premieres at 10PM ET/PT. The new season of NAKED AND AFRAID XL premieres Sunday, April 23 at 10PM ET/PT.

Below is Discovery’s EPIC WEEK programming line-up:

CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED DOCUSERIES "THE LAST ALASKANS" RETURNS FOR A THIRD SEASON ON DISCOVERY CHANNEL
Ten-Part Series Kicks off Wednesday, March 22 at 9 PM ET/PT

(Los Angeles) - Returning for a third season with more grit and heart than ever before, THE LAST ALASKANS continues to raise the bar for Alaskan life depicted on television. Showcasing authentic, intimate stories and cinematic visuals of different families struggling to survive in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, THE LAST ALASKANS returns to the untouched wilderness when it premieres Wednesday, March 22, at 9 PM ET/PT on the Discovery Channel.

In 1980, the US government banned new human occupation in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, a protected area home to thousands of native animals and pristine terrain. Currently, only a handful of families spread across seven cabins are permitted to remain in the refuge. Within less than 100 years, all remaining permits will reach expiration, and there will be no human presence left.
This season, as the Artic Refuge's final permit holders seek prosperity in a hungry land, a new generation steps into this age-old way of life. Eager young trappers, Tyler and Ashley Selden, and Charlie Jagow fully commit to a life among North America's most isolated, modern day pioneers. Aside from the day-to-day challenges, Tyler and Ashley face another surprise this season - welcoming their first child. Meanwhile, Bob Harte faces his mortality and flees the Alaskan winter and after 40 years in the bush, the legendary Heimo Korth yearns to pass the torch to his daughter Krin. In an unexpected twist, both new and old generations must now learn how to survive a winter with much lighter snowfall than past. The families have always relied on heavy snow for their mobility to trap. Without solid snow fall, dog sleds and snow machines are of no use. This winter's wolf packs move closer to the cabins, making trapping by foot all the more perilous. With pressure on their livelihood like never before, will The Last Alaskans overcome the tribulations that lie ahead this winter or will the homestead and its memories simply return to the wilderness?

THE LAST ALASKANS is produced for Discovery Channel by Half Yard Productions. Sean Gallagher, Abby Greensfelder, and John Jones are the executive producers for Half Yard Productions. For Discovery Channel, Joe Schneier, David Freed and Mitchell Rosenbaum are executive producers, and Emily Baustien is the associate producer. The series was developed by Animal Planet's Kurt Tondorf. To learn more, go to www.discovery.com, on Facebook at Facebook.com/discovery and on Twitter @Discovery.
