NBC BEGINS THE YEAR IN FULL BLOOM WITH LIVE TELECAST OF ‘131[ST] ROSE PARADE’

Al Roker and Hoda Kotb Host the Traditional Jan. 1 Pageantry from Pasadena, Calif.

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – Dec. 6, 2019 – NBC is proud to continue the tradition of welcoming the New Year with a live broadcast of the “131^st Rose Parade,” presented by Honda, from Pasadena, Calif., on Wednesday Jan. 1 (11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. ET).

Most NBC affiliates will also air optional coverage of the parade from 11-11:30 a.m. ET. Al Roker, “TODAY” weather anchor, and Hoda Kotb, co-anchor of “TODAY” and co-host of the fourth hour of “TODAY,” will co-host NBC’s high-definition coverage.

The 2020 telecast will mark Roker’s 23^rd year as host and the seventh year for Kotb. NBC is celebrating its 93^rd year broadcasting the Rose Parade, beginning on radio in 1927 and then televising the popular annual event beginning in 1954.

Rita Moreno, Gina Torres and Laurie Hernandez will serve as the 2020 Grand Marshals.

Moreno is one of only a few artists to have achieved EGOT status, having earned two Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award, an Oscar and Tony Award for her prolific career in film, television, music and on Broadway.

Torres is well-known for her acting and producing roles on USA Network’s “Suits” and “Pearson,” as well as her numerous film, stage and philanthropic endeavors.

Hernandez earned gold and silver medals as a member of the 2016 U.S. Olympic women’s gymnastics team and is an accomplished writer and TV personality. These three women embody what is possible through the theme of this year’s parade, “The Power of Hope.”

Nearly a thousand white-glove volunteers will spend more than 80,000 meticulous hours creating this year’s 45 masterpiece floral floats that will span up to 75-feet long and up to 35-feet high. The floats will feature effects such as pyrotechnics, smoke, waterfalls, streamers and bubbles. Adding to the celebration will be a B-2 Spirit flyover, a celebrity football toss, hundreds of energetic performers, 23 marching bands from across the U.S and around the globe, 16 equestrian teams that include Arabian horses, majestic Clydesdales and the USMC Mounted Color Guard, and the famous Rose Queen with her royal court.

Honored guests include Sonia Manzano, who generations of fans know as Maria from “Sesame Street,” space shuttle discovery astronaut and Astronaut Hall of Fame inductee Ellen Ochoa, and Jaime Jarrín, the Spanish voice of the Dodgers and National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee. Viewers will be treated to an opening spectacular featuring legendary Grammy-winning musician Emilio Estefan, popular singer and dancer Ally Brooke and Farruko, one of the world’s most famous Latin Reggaeton artists. Spectators will also enjoy a mid-parade performance featuring Disney’s “Frozen.”

The Grand Finale, presented by Wells Fargo, will close out the parade with performances by Alejandro Aranda, known as “Scarypoolparty,” and legendary East Los Angeles rock band Los Lobos.

More than 700,000 spectators will line the five-and-a-half mile parade route joined by over 65 million people in more than 170 countries watching the telecast.

The “131^st Rose Parade,” presented by Honda, is produced by LX.TV, a production unit of the NBC Owned Television Stations.

NEW YORK – Nov. 13, 2019 – A spectacle like no other awaits millions as the 93^rd annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade^®, the nation’s most cherished holiday tradition, once again kicks off the holiday season. Millions of families will tune in to watch the excitement unfold on Thursday, Nov. 28 as Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Al Roker of NBC News’ “TODAY” host the broadcast from 9 a.m.-noon in all time zones that will also include a special debut performance from her new album Courage by the incomparable Celine Dion.

The Macy’s Parade has must-see entertainment for everyone in the family. Joining the festivities will be stars from a variety of global music genres from pop, R&B and country to Latin and K-Pop, with a few noteworthy special appearances thrown in the mix. Appearing or performing onboard one of Macy’s signature floating stages will be Natasha Bedingfield, Black Eyed Peas, Chicago, Ciara, Josh Dela Cruz, Celine Dion, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots, Debbie Gibson, former NASA astronauts Kay Hire & Janet Kavandi, Chris Janson, Idina Menzel, Lea Michele, Miss America 2019 Nia Franklin, NHL legends Dominic Moore and Eddie Olczyk, the cast & Muppets of Sesame Street, NCT 127, Ozuna, Billy Porter, Kelly Rowland, That Girl Lay Lay, TLC, Tenille Townes and Chris Young; with an extra special appearance by the one-and-only Santa Claus.
To kick-off the revelry, a special must-see opening number featuring a who’s who of actors, singers, dancers and more, all joined by the cast and Muppets of Sesame Street, will start the Thanksgiving Day party with a smash. 

Following the opener on 34^th Street, Broadway’s best shows will take a star turn in front of Macy’s famed flagship with special performances from the casts of Ain’t Too Proud - The Life and Times of The Temptations, Beetlejuice, Hadestown and Tina - The Tina Turner Musical. In addition, the show-stopping Radio City Rockettes^® will bring their signature high-kicking magic to Herald Square.

Since November 1924, the magic of the holiday season has begun with the march of the Macy’s Parade as it enthrals the nation with its signature mix of whimsical elements and special performances. For the 93^rdedition, the line-up will feature 16 giant character balloons; 40 novelty balloons, heritage balloons, balloonicles, balloonheads and trycaloons; 26 floats; 1,200 cheerleaders and dancers; more than 1,000 clowns; and 11 marching bands.

“We are thrilled to present the 93^rd edition of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to our viewers nationwide,” said Doug Vaughan, Executive Vice President, Special Programs, NBC Entertainment. “This iconic tradition will once again jump start the holiday season with a celebration led by an incredible lineup of performers, bands, floats, balloons and more.”

For the fourth year, Macy’s, along with NBCUniversal and Verizon, will give viewers an up close and personal second screen experience of the Parade with a 360-degree livestream on Verizon's YouTube page. The stream will go live at 8:30 a.m. EST at www.youtube.com/verizon and will run through noon EST. With exclusive access to cameras along the entire Parade route, online spectators will get a glimpse of the magic behind the scenes, as well as a preview of what’s to come as the Parade marches down the streets of Manhattan. New giant balloons joining the line-up this year include Astronaut Snoopy by Peanuts Worldwide, Green Eggs and Ham by Netflix, and SpongeBob SquarePants & Gary by Nickelodeon. In celebration of his 75^thbirthday, a heritage balloon and fan-favorite will return to the Parade as Smokey Bear returns to the skies over Manhattan. 

Since 2005, the Macy’s Parade has also been home to a collection of high-flying artworks created in collaboration with renowned contemporary artists, as part of a special series titled Macy’s Blue Sky Gallery. This year, for the eighth edition of the collection, the world’s most renowned female contemporary artist will take her iconic art to new heights as Yayoi Kusama joins the Macy’s Parade with her Love Flies Up to the Sky balloon creation. The balloon design was developed by the artist from face motifs that appear in her “My Eternal Soul” series of paintings — a body of work that she began in 2009. Vibrant and animated, the paintings embody Kusama’s innovative exploration of form and revolve around a tension between abstraction and figuration. The artist’s signature dots, which recur throughout her practice, also feature prominently in the Macy’s Parade balloon design. Previous balloons in the Macy’s Parade Blue Sky Gallery series have included works from famed artists Tom Otterness, Jeff Koons, Keith Haring, Takashi Murakami, Tim Burton, KAWS and FriendsWithYou^™.

This year five new floats will debut, including Nickelodeon’s Blue’s Clues & You! (Josh Dela Cruz), The Brick-changer by The Lego Group (NCT 127), Home Sweet Home by Cracker Barrel Old Country Store^® (Tenille Townes), Rexy in the City by COACH^® (Billy Porter), and Toy House of Marvelous Milestones by New York Life (Kelly Rowland). 

The nation’s best marching bands bring the beat to the holiday revelry. For this year’s 93^rd march, 11 of the specially chosen ensembles will ignite coast-to-coast excitement and hometown pride as they step off and perform on the streets of the Big Apple. This year’s bands include Awesome Original Second Time Arounders Marching Band (St. Petersburg, FL), Blue Springs High School Golden Regiment (Blue Springs, MO), Catalina Foothills Falcon Band (Tucson, AZ), Franklin Regional Panther Band (Murrysville, PA), Macy’s Great American Marching Band (United States), Madison Central High School Band (Richmond, KY), Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. High School’s Kings of Halftime (Lithonia, GA), Morgan State University’s The Magnificent Marching Machine (Baltimore, MD), NYPD Marching Band (New York, NY), Ronald Reagan High School Marching Band (San Antonio, TX) and Western Carolina University’s Pride of the Mountains Marching Band (Cullowhee, NC).

Entertaining the crowds with their signature exuberance will be the Parade’s signature large and specialty performance groups. Joining the line-up this year are the teen dancers and cheerleaders of Spirit of America Dance Stars and Spirit of America Cheer.These groups together feature more than 1,200 of the very best performers recruited from hometowns nationwide. Days before Thanksgiving, they will gather for the first time in New York City to rehearse their numbers as a group, ahead of their once-in-a-lifetime national spotlight. Adding some wacky 1980s style dancing will be the hilarious 610 Stompers (New Orleans, LA), with modern dance youth talent showcased by The Alvin Ailey School (New York, NY) and the tap dance theatrics of children from The Nice List (New York, NY). Rounding out the performance group line-up and joining select talent performances will be Gamma Phi Circus (Normal, IL), Manhattan Youth Ballet (New York, NY), the dance stars of the world-renowned in-school arts education programNational Dance Institute (New York, NY) and Young People’s Chorus of NYC (New York, NY).

THE THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE ON CBS will be anchored by ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT’s Kevin Frazier and Keltie Knight, live from New York City Thursday, Nov. 28 on the CBS Television Network. The parade will be broadcast 9:00 AM-12:00 PM, live ET/8:00-11:00 AM, live CT/7:00-10:00 AM, live MT/9:00 AM-12:00 PM, delayed PT. 

A CBS Thanksgiving tradition in its 59^th year, the special will feature portions of the 93^rd annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade live from New York City. Country music superstar Miranda Lambert will perform the songs “Bluebird” and “Settling Down” from her recently released new album Wildcard, completing the morning of festivities leading into the holiday season.

Frazier and Knight will anchor from a site along the parade route in New York City. The beloved parade is famous for its gigantic balloons of cartoon character favorites, fantastic floats and lively marching bands from across the country. This will mark the ninth consecutive year Frazier has hosted. Knight is hosting for the fifth time.

As co-host of four-time Emmy Award-winning show ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, Kevin Frazier continues to make an impact on the entertainment industry as a multi-faceted journalist, producer and entrepreneur. He has interviewed Hollywood’s biggest stars, from Oprah Winfrey to Brad Pitt to Will Smith and Beyoncé. Frazier joined ET as co-host in September 2014, coinciding with the beginning of the 34^th season.

Frazier began his broadcasting career as a local sports reporter. Prior to joining ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, he served as host of ESPN’s “SportsCenter,” “NBA Shoot Around” and “NBA Fastbreak,” and as co-host of “The FX Sports Show.” Also, he served as a sideline reporter for the “NFL on Fox” telecasts as well as host of the pre-game shows for “NFL on Fox,” “NHL on Fox” and “College Football Saturday.”

Keltie Knight joined the Emmy Award-winning show ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT as a correspondent for the show’s 37^th season. Originally, she began her entertainment news career at “The Insider” as the music expert and then as a full-time correspondent. A red carpet regular, Knight has covered numerous events, including the Primetime Emmy Awards, the GRAMMY Awards, the Vanity Fair Oscar party and the MET Gala where she’s received best-dressed mentions in Vogue, Elle, Glamour, US Weekly, People Stylewatch and The New York Times. She has interviewed the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Meryl Streep, Taylor Swift, Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Jennifer Lawrence.

Formerly a Radio City Rockette and a dancer for Kanye West and Beyoncé, Knight began her broadcasting career hosting an episode of CMT’s “Top Twenty Countdown.” Soon after, Knight became the music host for LiveNation and then served as a correspondent for “Fuse News” and “Trending 10.” Also, she appeared as a dance expert on both “Millionaire Matchmaker” and the “Dancing with the Stars Afterparty,” as well as a music expert on “Duets Afterparty.”

In addition to contributing on THE TALK, CNN, HLN and as a moderator for Vanity Fair, Knight has appeared in cameo roles in television and film, including THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and “Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!” In 2016 Knight launched “LadyGang,” a celebrity-driven podcast, along with style expert Jac Vanek and actress Becca Tobin.

Country music superstar Miranda Lambert recently released her highly anticipated and critically praised new studio album Wildcard, which includes her latest country radio single, “It All Comes Out in the Wash.” Lambert is currently on her rotating, all-female “Roadside Bars and Pink Guitars” tour, featuring Maren Morris, Elle King, Ashley McBryde, Tenille Townes, Caylee Hammack, and the Pistol Annies. Starting in January 2020, she will embark on her Wildcard headlining tour with special guests Cody Johnson and LANCO.

The most decorated artist in the history of the Academy of Country Music, Lambert is the recipient of more than 70 prestigious awards and special honors: 34 ACM Awards (including nine ACM Female Vocalist of the Year Awards), 13 CMA Awards (Country Music Association), two GRAMMY Awards, the Harmony Award (Nashville Symphony), Artist in Residence (Country Music Hall of Fame), the ACM Gene Weed Milestone Award, and ACM Song of the Decade Award.
