[via press release from Netflix] "STRANGER THINGS" RENEWED FOR SEASON 4 AS NETFLIX MAKES OVERALL DEAL WITH THE DUFFER BROTHERS

Hollywood, Calif., - September 30, 2019 -- Netflix has renewed the worldwide hit series Stranger Things for a fourth season and signed series creators and showrunners The Duffer Brothers to a multi-year film and series overall deal.
See the Stranger Things 4 announcement here.

"The Duffer Brothers have captivated viewers around the world with Stranger Things and we're thrilled to expand our relationship with them to bring their vivid imaginations to other film and series projects our members will love," said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer, Netflix. "We can't wait to see what The Duffer Brothers have in store when they step outside the world of The Upside Down."
"We are absolutely thrilled to continue our relationship with Netflix. Ted Sarandos, Cindy Holland, Brian Wright, and Matt Thunell took a huge chance on us and our show -- and forever changed our lives. From our first pitch meeting to the release of Stranger Things 3, the entire team at Netflix has been nothing short of sensational, providing us with the kind of support, guidance, and creative freedom we always dreamed about. We can't wait to tell many more stories together -- beginning, of course, with a return trip to Hawkins!"

About The Series:
Stranger Things is a Netflix Original Series created by The Duffer Brothers and produced by Monkey Massacre Productions & 21 Laps Entertainment. The Duffer Brothers serve as executive producers on the series alongside Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps Entertainment and Iain Paterson.
About The Duffer Brothers:

The twin brothers were raised in Durham, North Carolina and began making films in the third grade using the Hi8 camcorder they received as a gift from their parents. They went on to attend Chapman University's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, graduating in 2007 with degrees in film production.

After graduating, the Duffer Brothers wrote and directed several short films, attracting the attention of both Warner Bros., which acquired their script for the post-apocalyptic horror film Hidden, and filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan, who hired them as writers for multiple episodes of the Fox series Wayward Pines.

Building on their growing success, the Duffer Brothers pitched their idea for Stranger Things, an homage to 1980s genre films. The series was picked up by Netflix and premiered in the summer of 2016 to critical-acclaim and went on to become a global phenomenon, with Matt and Ross at the helm as writers, directors and showrunners.

Stranger Things has garnered over 50 awards nominations, including those from the Emmys, the Golden Globes, the Grammys, SAG, DGA, WGA, BAFTA, the Art Directors Guild and the People's Choice Awards, among many others.

Stranger Things - New Images Verify Target's BD/DVD Release of 'Season 1: Collector's Edition'

Stranger Things - New Images Verify Target's BD/DVD Release of 'Season 1: Collector's Edition'

Available this coming Tuesday, October 17th, as confirmed by the chain's next weekly ad circular

You might remember that a week ago yesterday we passed along word that Stranger Things - Season 1: Collector's Edition is coming out as a Blu-ray Disc/DVD Combo Set, exclusively at Target stores, this coming Tuesday, October 17th.

While neither Netflix (who owns the show's DVD and BD rights, unlike most other programs shown on the streaming service) nor Target have issued any sort of press release about it, Target's weekly circular for this coming Sunday has leaked out in advance, and an ad inside that circular verifies that Stranger Things - Season 1: Collector's Edition is indeed coming out on that date, and for the price we reported: $24.99 (note that prices can vary on merchandise from location to location within the Target chain; your store's price may possibly vary!).

What's even more interesting about that ad withing Target's circular for next week is that it shows an image of the "VHS case" found inside the outer packaging...a case which holds the 4 discs (two Blu-ray and two DVD) and sits inside the outer cover that's marked "VHS hi-fi." This inner package is a bit of nostalgia for older home video enthusiasts, like myself. There's even a golden circular sticker with text that read, "please be kind & rewind"! That's cool.

The title is not listed at Target.com as of this writing, and we're not certain if it's going to be...this may be an in-store exclusive, for all we know. If you need to have a Target employee look up the item, the UPC code for this is 191764203360, and Target's DPCI code (their internal inventory number) for it is 058-23-1746. Here's a look at those images of the ad in next week's Target weekly circular, and a closer look at the "beauty shot" of the package, inside and out:

Stranger Things - 'Season 1: Collector's Edition' Blu-ray/DVD Combo Set...SOON!

Stranger Things - 'Season 1: Collector's Edition' Blu-ray/DVD Combo Set...SOON!

Target-Exclusive release with collectible poster inside a 'VHS hi-fi' style package!

A love letter to the '80s classics that captivated a generation, Stranger Things is set in 1983 Indiana, where a young boy vanishes into thin air. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl.
In mid-July 2016, the Netflix service debuted a show that hit fans like a ton of bricks. Stranger Things was widely acclaimed, by viewers and by critics. Everybody was talking about this everywhere (especially social media), and the show was nominated for 19 primetime Emmy Awards, winning 5 of them. The cast includes Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Matthew Modine, Cara Buono, and Shannon Purser. A second season, adding more cast members including Sean Astin, Will Chase and Paul Reiser, will debut on Netflix this October 27th.

A Reddit.com user, "/u/KnightFall47" (who appears to be a Target employee, but doesn't outright say so), has posted word there, in Stranger Things subreddit and also in DVD Collection subreddit, that on Tuesday, October 17th, for $24.99, Target will EXCLUSIVELY release Stranger Things - Season 1: Collector's Edition as a Blu-ray Disc/DVD combo pack! The four-disc set will also include a collectible Stranger Things poster, folded inside the packaging.

This above-named redditor (whose user history shows they've been using Reddit for more than three years) links to photos they took, uploaded to the Imgur picture-posting service, of the title arriving at the Target store location this person is at. There are 3 images: front, rear, and spine. The above-quoted description is transcribed from the back of the box. The package design, harkening to the '80s-themed series, is the same design of VHS releases from that same era...right down to "VHS hi-fi" logos on the lower right front corner, and the spine bottom! But a sticker on the front's top right, and on the box rear's lower left, reveals that the package actually includes Blu-ray Disc and DVD disc versions of the 8 episodes of Stranger Things - Season 1.

The title is not yet found on Target.com; we're not certain if this will be an in-store-only item, or if it will be sold through the website as well. While most programs shown on Netflix are produced and owned by other studios (examples: Orange Is The New Black comes from Lionsgate; House Of Cards comes from Sony; Daredevil and Jessica Jones both come from Disney-owned Marvel), Stranger Things is one that is actually owned by Netflix themselves...and Netflix seems to be the studio releasing this Blu-ray/DVD combo set of Stranger Things - Season 1: Collector's Edition. For those who aren't able to purchase from the Target chain, we hope that a version of this is made available through other sellers in the future. Right now, however, we have no word on that. Actually, we would have had no advance word on THIS Target-only release, except for the Reddit post. Our thanks to "/u/KnightFall47" for doing that, and also to longtime reader (and good friend, and fellow redditor) Wesley Mead for being the first to email us about this stuff!

Here are cropped and scaled-down copies of the images from "/u/KnightFall47"; please see their Reddit post(s) for the original photos in their original resolutions:
