Rhoda - Delayed Date, New Bonus Item for 'Season 5: The Final Season' DVD release is pushed back due to quality issues that Shout! wants to fix

Back in May we told you that Shout! Factory had - finally! - made plans to release Rhoda - Season 5: The Final Season on DVD. The plans at the time were for the title to be available everywhere on August 15th. Now, however, Shout!'s online store has updated their pre-order listing for the title to say this: It has come to our attention that a number of episodes on our release of Rhoda: The Final Season were created from masters that make the viewing experience less than ideal. To correct this issue, we are going back to the vault to find better masters to use for this set. To allow for the extra time needed to complete this process, the national street date of this release has been pushed back to October 17, 2017. With the delay (meant to give customers a better experience, so this is a positive thing in the end!), Shout! Factory is also providing a new bonus item with the set: "Carlton Your Doorman" (1980) - The Animated Pilot Episode For A Proposed Rhoda Spinoff Series Fred Wolf (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles) was involved in the production of that animated pilot, and Lorenzo Music - who played Carlton in the live-action Rhoda series - voiced the main character (he would go on to be renowned for voicing Garfield in the popular Garfield and Friends cartoon series, among other work). For any customers who might have received their set early and experienced drop-outs or skipping, or for those who continue to get their pre-orders on time but with the discs full of issues, Shout! has emailed their pre-order customers and told them that when the corrected set becomes available, "we will be shipping replacement discs to everyone who pre-ordered this set from our website." So no action should need to be taken on your part. Our thanks to all the readers who emailed us about this, including Jackson Burnett and John Corbett. As of this writing, Amazon's pre-order listing doesn't reflect the changed date, but we expect that to be updated soon!

Rhoda - Shout! to 'Widely' Release 'Season 4' DVDs into Stores Available on the same day as the long-awaited release of Season 5

In September 2010, Shout! Factory released a DVD set for Rhoda - Season 4. However, it was only available online, via the studio's website store, as a part of a program called "Shout! Select" at the time. Note that back then, the phrase referred to DVD releases of TV shows and movies which could only be bought via the Shout! online store. The term fell into disuse by the studio for a while, then was recently revived to be used for a new Shout! Factory program: "Shout! Select" currently refers to a lineup of movie releases which the studio feels, in their own words, are "enduring cult favorites and unheralded gems.." As the original use of the "Shout! Select" phrase fell into disuse, so the titles released under that old program also became discontinued. Some items, though, still have fans looking to buy those titles! The result? Shout! has decided to re-release a few of these, and this time put them out into stores "wide" at traditional general retail. One of them is Rhoda - Season 4. Especially following the recent announcement that the 5th and final season of Rhoda is coming to DVD on August 15th! An Amazon.com listing shows that the 4th season set will ALSO be available on August 15th. It's a 4-disc set, and cover art is below. Amazon is also listing Season 5 DVDs now, and they ARE accepting pre-orders for those! So now's an excellent time to plan on finishing your collection of Rhoda on home video.

Rhoda - Finally! A DVD Release for 'Season 5: The Final Season' Coming to stores in mid-August from Shout! Factory

At last! The final season of Rhoda, the hilarious and award-winning spin-off to the classic The Mary Tyler Moore Show, arrives on DVD. Starring Valerie Harper as the charming and cheeky New Yorker Rhoda Morgenstern, Rhoda's final thirteen episodes are a baker's dozen of comedic tales that the series' many fans will love. With balmy sister Brenda (Julie Kavner, The Simpsons) and irrepressible mom Ida (Nancy Walker, Girl Crazy, Broadway Rhythm) by her side, Rhoda is back for one last bite of the Big Apple! In 2009 and 2010, the first 4 seasons of Rhoda were released on DVD by Shout! Factory...but then the releases stopped, with no set scheduled for the fifth and final season of the show. In 2011 a DVD producer for that studio revealed on the "Factory's" official message board how the hold-up was that Shout! had been unable to secure the home video rights for the last season. It's been "on hold" ever since. Now something has finally changed, because late yesterday Shout! Factory revealed that Rhoda - Season 5: The Final Season is coming to DVD at last! It will be in stores, in the USA and Canada, on August 15th. The 2-disc set with the concluding 13 episodes will cost $22.97 SRP, and cover art can be seen below.
