ALF - Packaging Pictures for 'The Complete DVD Collection: Collector's Edition'

ALF - Packaging Pictures for 'The Complete DVD Collection: Collector's Edition'

16-disc set (not 24 discs!) is coming to the US from Lionsgate on May 9th

This past Friday we reported that on May 9th Lionsgate Entertainment will release in the U.S.A. all four seasons of ALF in a single package. At the time we passed along word, from our retailer contacts who got the info straight from Lionsgate, that it would be a 24-disc set called "The Seasons 1-4 Collection"; these turn out to not be the case.

Today the studio provided retailers with the following two images below, of the package art for this bundle. According to the box, it's properly called "ALF - The Complete DVD Collection: Collector's Edition," and the "beauty shot" image shows it's a 16-DVD set. The latter makes more sense to us, since the four individual season sets each came with 4 discs per package (and the 2012 "Complete Series" set put out in Canada was a 16-disc set as well).

The "beauty shot" demonstrates that this is EXACTLY the existing seasons sets, just slid into an outer package that includes as part of it what Lionsgate described as "a 3D 'Thermoform' Alf Face"; you can see that below:

ALF - 'The Seasons 1-4 Collection' Announced by Lionsgate

ALF - 'The Seasons 1-4 Collection' Announced by Lionsgate

APPEARS to be the same on-disc content as the previous season sets

He came from the planet Melmac, crash-landed into the garage of an American suburban family, and won the hearts of millions of TV fans. He's Alf, and now you can enjoy all four seasons of the side-splittingly funny series that made this wacky, wisecracking E.T. an entertainment sensation. Whether Alf is dealing with planetary culture shock, hiding from nosy neighbors, or following his show-biz dreams, he's guaranteed to deliver the biggest laughs in this galaxy...or any other!
Between the years 2004 and 2006, ALF season sets came to DVD from Lionsgate Entertainment...all four seasons. Fans were upset though, because - as we reported at the time - the studio was only supplied with edited-for-syndication versions of the episodes (which the owners of the show had in better quality).

In 2012, Alliance Films Media (who had purchased the previous Canadian distributor, Maple Pictures, from Lionsgate in 2011...and who has since in turn been purchased by eOne Films!) released a DVD set with all four seasons titled ALF - The Complete Series on DVD. That set was only in Canada, and - as it turned out - the episodes were both the syndicated versions, and not presented in original broadcast order.

We do NOT know at this time if any of these issues are being resolved in this newly announced item (we suspect "no," however...but then again, we haven't heard from the studio about it either, so we could possibly be wrong about that). But now Lionsgate Entertainment has scheduled a May 9th release of something they are calling "ALF - The Seasons 1-4 Collection." It's a 24-DVD package, priced at $54.98 SRP, and with closed captioning.

Lionsgate has informed retailers that this is "Now available as a gift set for the first time!," "Timed for Father's Day promotions!," having "Specialty packaging with a 3D 'Thermoform' Alf Face," and "The Complete DVD Collection including ALF Seasons 1-4." Nothing in the studio's wording claims that the episodes are any different from the previously-available-on-DVD ALF episodes, and the title seems calculated to avoid making it seem like there's more than the previous USA-available DVD sets had. Also, package art hasn't been provided so far.

We'll bring the packaging pictures to you as soon as we can, and if we find out anything different about the episode length then we'll tell you as soon as we possibly can. Stay tuned!
