Senator Bernie Sanders to Appear on The Opposition w/ Jordan Klepper on Thursday, May 31 at 11:30 P.M. ET/PT on Comedy Central

NEW YORK, May 30, 2018 – Comedy Central‘s late night franchise The Opposition w/ Jordan Klepper will welcome Sen. Bernie Sanders to the studio on Thursday, May 31 at  11:30 p.m. ET/PT. This marks Sanders’ first appearance on the series.

“I’m flattered to have Senator Sanders on our show to sit down and hear what he has to say, then completely disregard it and tell him how it really is,” said Klepper.

Bernie Sanders is an Independent Senator from Vermont. In 2006, he was elected to the U.S. Senate after 16 years as Vermont’s sole congressman in the House of Representatives. Bernie is now serving his second term in the U.S. Senate after winning re-election in 2012 with 71 percent of the vote. In Congress, Bernie has fought tirelessly for working families, focusing on the shrinking middle class and growing gap between the rich and everyone else. NEW YORK, March 19, 2018 – The Opposition w/ Jordan Klepper is leaving the comfort of its New York studio to confront the student-led gun-reform movement up close, taping and airing its Thursday, March 22 episode from the suburban living room of a Rockville-based high school student organizer on the frontlines of the charge, just days ahead of the March For Our Lives rally in Washington, D.C. The special episode will air at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT.

Titled “The Opposition Chaperones Democracy: Kids Just Wanna Take Guns,” the episode’s guest will be U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), who has been at the forefront of the gun-issues debate. The episode will be filmed in front of an audience of activist teens, parents, and rally attendees, and will also include a field piece in which the The Opposition visits a Baltimore, Maryland high school to speak with activist students about gun violence in their local community.

“There needs to be an adult in the room before these kids do something crazy, like let their sincere and heartfelt message resonate with the nation’s lawmakers to enact common sense measures that could save lives. That would be insane,” said Klepper. “Adults should step in and do what they do best… nothing. I promise to bring that nothing to this living room.”

The March For Our Lives rally on March 24 is expected to bring high school students from across the U.S. to the nation’s capital to demand changes to America’s gun laws. With tens of thousands expected, a grassroots group of high school students in the nearby Rockville and Bethesda, Maryland areas have reached out to classmates, friends and neighbors to provide beds and couches for out-of-state kids.The Opposition will film and air from the home of one these teens before attending March For Our Lives.

Tim Baltz, a Joliet, Illinois native, cut his teeth as an actor and writer at Second City in Chicago, where he first became acquainted with Jordan Klepper and Laura Grey. Baltz has an extensive television career which includes HBO’s Emmy Award-winning Veep, AMC’s Better Call Saul, NBC’s Parks & Recreation and Superstore, ABC’s Fresh Off The Boat, IFC’s Comedy Bang Bang, and Seeso’s Bajillion Dollar Propertie$. Baltz previously worked with Comedy Central as a series regular on Drunk History.  He also co-created and starred in Shrink, which went on to win “Best Comedy Pilot,” and “Critics Award” at the New York Television Festival before being ordered to series by Seeso in 2016. Baltz is represented by CAA and Jordan Tilzer at El Centro Management.
Laura Grey is a writer and performer based in New York. Most recently, she served as head writer on the Comedy Central special Jordan Klepper Solves Guns. She got her start at Chicago’s famed Second City, where she wrote two original revues and was nominated for a Jefferson Award, and then moved to New York where she performed regularly at the UCB Theater. Her series Ex-Girlfiend won the TruTV development award at the New York Television Fest, and she co-created Faeries for IFC’s Comedy Crib. Her pilot, House of Delta (co-written with Megan Stein) was bought by Universal Cable Productions with UCB attached to produce. Her other original work has been featured on Above Average, Go 90, Reductress, SXSW, Slamdance, and the Tribeca Film Festival. She’s appeared in the Sony feature, Rough Night alongside Scarlett Johansson and in Amy Sedaris’ Seriously Distracted. Grey is repped by UTA, Kirsten Ames Management, and Melissa Fox at Hansen, Jacobson et al.

Aaron Jackson performs frequently with various improv teams at the UCB Theatre, including What I Did for Love, Rumpleteaser and We Will Turn You Gay.  At the theater, he also co-wrote, Erik Dies, You’re Stupid and We Hate You. Jackson also co-wrote co-starred in the musical F*cking Identical Twins with frequent collaborator, Josh Sharp, at the theater.  The show was subsequently optioned as a musical feature by Twentieth Century Fox with Chernin Entertainment on board to produce.  Jackson and Sharp also co-created, co-wrote and co-starred in Jared & Ivanka, a Funny-Or-Die web series satirizing the relationship between Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump. Josh Sharp has been performing at UCB since 2009.  At the UCB, Josh premiered the long-running musical, F*cking Identical Twins, alongside frequent collaborator, Aaron Jackson. F*cking Identical Twins was optioned as a musical feature by Twentieth Century Fox with Chernin Entertainment aboard to produce. Jackson and Sharp also co-created, co-wrote and co-starred in Jared & Ivanka,  a Funny-Or-Die web series. Sharp hosts UCB’s monthly experimental comedy show Cool Shit/Weird Shit and was included in Vulture’s 2015 List of “Comics You Should Know” and was named a “Comic to Watch” by Time Out New York in 2014. LOS ANGELES, July 25, 2017 – Comedy Central‘s new late-night talk series helmed by Jordan Klepper will be titled The Opposition with Jordan Klepper and premiere September 25 at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT following The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, it was announced today by Kent Alterman, President, Comedy Central.

The Opposition with Jordan Klepper will satirize the hyperbolic, conspiracy-laden noise machine that is the alternative-media landscape on both the right and left. The Opposition is the voice of the new America. It is the America that defines its own reality. It’s the America of paid protestors, Obama’s birth certificate, and the certainty that CNN is fake news.

Klepper is best known for his memorable appearances as a correspondent on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, which he joined in 2014 under Jon Stewart and continued after Trevor Noah took over as host in 2015. In his time at The Daily Show, Klepper defined himself with both his studio work and segments in the field, ranging from his multi-part series exploring the reality of being a “Good Guy with a Gun“ to his field pieces at Trump rallies which have garnered millions of views.

This past June, his one-hour special Jordan Klepper Solves Guns premiered on Comedy Central and focused on the alarming legal obstacles and enlightening personal testimony surrounding the issue of gun violence in America. The special featured Klepper becoming increasingly aware that legislative red tape and special interests – much more than any cultural or partisan divide – are keeping the nation from simple safety reforms.

Prior to The Daily Show, Klepper spent years as a performer at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City. During this time, he co-created and co-starred in the UCB Comedy-produced pilot Engaged which was featured at the New York Television Festival. Klepper worked as a writer and contributor on the Big Ten Network show Friday Night Tailgate, MTV2’s Charlamagne & Friends and as a contributing writer on HBO’s Ferrell Takes the Field. Together with his collaborator and wife, Laura Grey (“Klepper & Grey”), he created Peepers (2014), which was featured at SXSW and the Tribeca Film Festival, and the short film TMI (2012), which was a featured short at Slamdance.
