Back at the end of 2017 we had the heads-up about Time Life's March 6th retail release of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In - The Complete 3rd Season on DVD. Then, earlier this month, we reported that on May 8th Time Life will follow up with a retail DVD release for Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In - The Complete 4th Season. We didn't have box cover art at the time for either of those titles. But this afternoon one of our friends in the home video retail industry sent us this image with possible front package art for both items. Check it out:

Yesterday we brought you Time Life's official press release for their early January release of the second season as an individual DVD box set, sold at retail. Today we've got word, thanks to an Amazon.com pre-order listing, that Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In - The Complete 3rd Season is getting it's own separate DVD release about two months later, on March 6th. The cost is $29.95 SRP for a 7-disc set...quite a bargain! The variety show had six seasons overall, so this gets us to the halfway point (for those fans who haven't already bought The Complete Series set which is exclusively sold at TimeLife.com, that is!). Package art isn't available yet for season three, but stay tuned for updates!

When, in 1968, presidential nominee Richard Nixon rhetorically queried "Sock it to me?" on Laugh-In, it helped to elevate him to the White House and was named by Time Magazine as one of the "Top 10 Presidential Pop Culture Moments." That's just one of the many unforgettable pop culture highlights in a transformative season full of them. Home audiences are sure to laugh along with ROWAN & MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON when it arrives on DVD this January, courtesy of the TV DVD archivists at Time Life.

The '60s gave us "in-crowds," "be-ins" and "love-ins," and starting in 1968, the happening place for free-form comedy was Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, broadcast from beautiful downtown Burbank. Straight man Dan Rowan and wisecracking co-host Dick Martin led a gaggle of goofballs including Goldie Hawn, Judy Carne, Ruth Buzzi, Arte Johnson, Henry Gibson, Gary Owens, Jo Anne Worley and Alan Sues through a rapid-fire assault of one-liners, skits, bits and non sequiturs that left viewers in hysterics and disbelief.

ROWAN & MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON includes such classic,long-running features as "Sock It to Me," "Cocktail Party," "The Fickle Finger of Fate" and "Gladys and Tyrone,"; lighthearted salutes to higher education, machines, pollution, dancing class, police, the telephone company, the post office, and Raquel Welch; Pigmeat Markham, reclaiming his "Here Comes the Judge" routine, dispensing justice with a large rubber gavel to the noggin; Tiny Tim singing and exploring Burbank and more.

Following its boffo inaugural season, all of Hollywood got in line to appear on TV's must-see variety show, and THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON features an astounding line-up of guest stars - some of the 20th century's most talented performers and outsized personalities. Home audiences will thrill to the appearances of Jack Benny, Victor Borge, Mel Brooks, Johnny Carson, Tony Curtis, Sammy Davis Jr., Phyllis Diller, Kirk Douglas, Peter Falk, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Hugh Hefner, Rock Hudson, Davy Jones, Peter Lawford, Jack Lemmon, Liberace, Rich Little, Marcel Marceau, Bob Newhart, Richard Nixon, Vincent Price, Don Rickles, Rod Serling, Nancy Sinatra, The Smothers Brothers, John Wayne, Flip Wilson, Henny Youngman, and many more.

For LAUGH-IN aficionados, Time Life also offers LAUGH-IN: THE COMPLETE SERIES, available exclusively at TimeLife.com/Laugh-In. Perfect for holiday gift giving, the attractively-packaged deluxe DVD collection - never before available together on any format - includes all 140 episodes from all six seasons on 38 discs. Loaded with specially-produced and exclusive extras including all-new interviews with Executive Producer and Creator, George Schlater and Lily Tomlin, the rarely-seen pilot-episode, as well as Laugh-In Memories, a collectible memory book filled with jokes, pictures from the show, behind-the-scenes photos, and more!

HERE COMES THE JUDGE -- ON THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON OF LAUGH-IN!

The 60s gave us in-crowds, be-ins and love-ins, and starting in 1968, the happening place for free-form comedy was ROWAN & MARTIN S LAUGH-IN, broadcast from beautiful downtown Burbank. Straight man Dan Rowan and wisecracking co-host Dick Martin led a gaggle of goofballs through a rapid-fire assault of one-liners, skits, bits and non sequiturs that left viewers in hysterics and disbelief. Anything and anyone in the public eye was a target. Political correctness? Forget it! The groundbreaking, Emmy Award winning show anchored the Monday 8 p.m. time slot on NBC until March 12, 1973.

Wait a minute! That s Richard Nixon asking the rhetorical question, Sock it to me? No boxing glove response this time, yet his appearance in Season 2 likely helped him win the presidency in November 1968. Pigmeat Markham, reclaiming his Here Comes the Judge routine, dispenses justice with a large rubber gavel to the noggin for emphasis. Marshall McLuhan, what are you doin'?

A trendsetter in TV comedy, this wacky series provided a conteporary, unstructured and fast-paced show that was exactly what an agitated America wanted in the '60s and '70s.

    THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON FEATURES:
    • 7 DVDs, complete with all 26 Episodes, plus bonus material!
    • Starring: Dan Rowan, Dick Martin, Chelsea Brown, Ruth Buzzi, Judy Carne, Henry Gibson, Goldie Hawn, Arte Johnson, Dave Madden, Pigmeat Markham, Gary Owens, Alan Sues and Jo Anne Worley.
    • Classic long-running features Sock It to Me, Here Comes the Judge, Cocktail Party and The Fickle Finger of Fate!
    • Tiny Tim sings and explores beautiful downtown Burbank.
    • Gladys and Tyrone on the park bench, plus an ode to Walnettos.
    • Rosmenko (Arte Johnson) duets in Russian with brother Bobby Darin.
    • Lighthearted salutes to higher education, machines, pollution, dancing class, police, the telephone company, the post office, and Raquel Welch.
    • Guest stars: Jack Benny, Victor Borge, Mel Brooks, Johnny Carson, Tony Curtis, Sammy Davis Jr., Phyllis Diller, Kirk Douglas, Peter Falk, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Hugh Hefner, Rock Hudson, Davy Jones, Peter Lawford, Jack Lemmon, Liberace, Rich Little, Marcel Marceau, Bob Newhart, Richard Nixon, Vincent Price, Don Rickles, Rod Serling, Nancy Sinatra, The Smothers Brothers, John Wayne, Flip Wilson, Henny Youngman and many more!
    • Bonus Features: Special interviews with Dick Martin, Gary Owens and Ruth Buzzi.
    • CC: All discs contain the closed captioning option.
An Amazon.com pre-order listing (see button link below) shows that on January 9th Time Life will release an individual 7-disc DVD set for Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In - The Complete 2nd Season. It's priced at $29.95 SRP, and as you can see from the long studio-provided description quoted above, it's loaded! Here's the package art:

The '60s gave us "in-crowds," "be-ins" and "love-ins," and starting in 1968, the happening place for free-form comedy was Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, broadcast from beautiful downtown Burbank. Forget it! The off-the-wall groundbreaking, Emmy Award-winning show would go on to anchor the Monday 8 p.m. time slot on NBC until March 12, 1973, transforming both pop culture and the medium of television.

Following the acclaimed release of LAUGH-IN: THE COMPLETE SERIES (available exclusively through TimeLife.com/Laugh-In), the TV-DVD archivists at Time Life are making ROWAN & MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON available for classic TV aficionados and comedy lovers alike. Comprised of 4 DVDs and 14 complete episodes - 64% of which have never before been available at retail - the star-studded set delivers audiences to the beginning of the landmark series which became an instant classic and one of the most popular shows in the history of television.

Flip Wilson as Adam (now residing outside of the Garden of Eden); Tim Conway and Cher as John Smith and Pocahontas; a silent salute to presidential candidate George Wallace; a Mod, Mod World look at the Olympics...these are just a few of the zaniest things crammed into Season 1. Also making their appearances for the first time: Goldie Hawn's giggly blonde, Judy Carne's "Sock-It-To-Me" girl, Jo Anne Worley's anti-chicken-joke militant, Ruth Buzzi's perpetually-frustrated spinster and Arte Johnson's "verrry interesting" German soldier. The biggest news, however, was the first national television appearance of Tiny Tim, the ukulele-toting, falsetto-singing throwback to a bygone era of American pop music. He made the rest of the cast seem normal - and Dan and Dick squirm. The show's first season was also highlighted by long running fan favorite features including "Sock It to Me," "Cocktail Party," the "Joke Wall," and the first appearance of Johnson's elderly Tyrone F. Horneigh and Sammy Davis Jr. introducing the all-time classic sketch "Here Comes the Judge."

ROWAN & MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON includes hours of specially-produced extras, including the rare Laugh-In pilot, an all-new interview with creator and executive producer George Schlatter, 25th Anniversary Cast Reunion Highlights, and Laugh-In Bloopers.

FAIRFAX, VA (May 9, 2017) - Named by TV Guide as one of the "50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time," Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In was also one of the most groundbreaking. A fast-moving barrage of rapid-fire one-liners, on-going sketches, musical numbers, and hilarious social and political satire, it was an instant hit following its NBC prime-time debut in 1968. Hosted by Dan Rowan and Dick Martin, the unique variety series - a psychedelic take-off of a '60s-style happening - perfectly captured the spirit of an era, launched the careers of many a comic actor and writer, and fed a new generation's conversations with hip catchphrases like "Sock it to me!," "You bet your sweet bippy!," and "Here come da judge!" Laugh In would go on to become one of the most popular shows in the history of television.

Never before available in its entirety on any format, beginning May 9, ROWAN AND MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION will be offered as a deluxe 38-disc collector's set from Time Life and Proven Entertainment with David DiVona. Featuring all 140 original broadcast episodes plus the pilot, hours of specially-produced extras and featurettes, a bonus disc featuring hours of specially-produced extras, a 32-page collectible memory book featuring "liner notes" from producer/creator George Schlatter and more, ROWAN AND MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION will be available to pre-order exclusively at TimeLife.com/LaughIn for $249.95.

"Laugh-In was a free fall of television without a net. It was dangerous. It was controversial. It was totally unpredictable and always funny." - George Schlatter

Laugh-In originally aired as a one-time special on September 9, 1967, and was such a success that it was brought back as a series, replacing The Man from U.N.C.L.E. on Mondays at 8pm. With seasoned comedy team Rowan and Martin presiding over the zippy hour-long variety show, which capably mixed sketch comedy and sight gags with trenchant political commentary, the comic regulars resonated loudly and hilariously - Goldie Hawn's giggly blonde, Lily Tomlin's snorting telephone operator, Judy Carne's "Sock-It-To-Me" girl, JoAnne Worley's anti-chicken-joke militant, Ruth Buzzi's perpetually-frustrated spinster, and Arte Johnson's "verrry interesting" German soldier, to name a few. And over the next six seasons, from 1968-1973, the off-the-wall NBC staple would become a pop culture phenomenon and the #1 rated show during the 1968-69 and 1969-70 television seasons.

The pioneering series - which would go onto to capture 6 Emmy Awards (for Outstanding Variety Series, 1971) and 31 nominations, as well as 2 Golden Globe Awards, including "Best TV Show" (1969) - can also be remembered by the seemingly endless parade of guest stars who flocked to the red-hot variety show for memorable appearances and cameos...including Tim Conway, Bob Newhart, Debbie Reynolds, Liberace, Raquel Welch, Sammy Davis, Jr., Jonathan Winters, Carol Channing, The Monkees, Sonny and Cher, Barbara Feldon, Bobby Darin, Andy Griffith, Diana Ross, James Garner, Michael Landon, Buddy Hackett, Steve Lawrence, Jack Lemmon, Kirk Douglas, Robert Goulet, Flip Wilson, Don Rickles, John Wayne, a ukulele-strumming Tiny Tim, and many more. The series' most famous single moment, however, came in 1968 when presidential candidate Richard Nixon surprised viewers with a brief appearance in which he deadpanned "Sock it to me?," before capturing the White House.

Initially, exclusively available online at TimeLife.com/LaughIn, ROWAN AND MARTIN'S LAUGH-IN: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION commemorates the influential program's landmark 50th anniversary with a handsomely-packaged DVD set from the TV-DVD archivists at Time Life. Across 38 discs and 150+ hours of transformative entertainment, fans of classic TV, comedy and variety will be treated to the series in its entirety for the very first time: all 140 episodes, complete and uncut and remastered from the original broadcast elements for optimal viewing. 89 of the episodes (63%) have never before been released on any format, making this eagerly-anticipated completist's set a valuable - and highly entertaining - collection.

Also included in the collection is the rare pilot episode, a collectible 32-page memory book loaded with archival photos, show images, classic jokes and one-liners, "liner notes" from creator/producer George Schlatter, and an exclusive bonus DVD.

The collection includes more than 6 hours of exclusive bonus features including the complete 25th Anniversary Cast Reunion and interviews with Lily Tomlin and George Schlatter that are only available in this complete collection.

Other exclusive bonus features include:
  • Interviews with Dick Martin, Ruth Buzzi, Gary Owens, Arte Johnson, Alan Sues
  • The Laugh-In Pilot Episode
  • Still Laugh-In: A Tribute to George Schlatter
  • Laugh-In Bloopers
  • How We Won the Emmys
  • ...and more!
With the combined efforts and input from one of the most talented ensemble casts and the largest, most creative groups of writers, editors, composers, directors, scenic and costume designers ever assembled, Laugh-In became an instant classic, transforming pop culture and the medium of television. And today, 50 years after the show first aired, it remains one of the most memorable and beloved shows in TV history.
