NBC Reunites with "Who Do You Think You Are?"

NBC REUNITES WITH ‘WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?’

Hit Documentary Series Produced by Ancestry® and Shed Media Returns with All New Episodes
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – May 6, 2019 – The Emmy Award-winning documentary series “Who Do You Think You Are?” returns to celebrate all new journeys of self-discovery, connection and diversity on NBC with 13 episodes. A new group of celebrities will celebrate culture and set sail on their mission to connect with their personal history.

From executive producers Lisa Kudrow, Dan Bucatinsky and Ancestry, the global leader in family history and consumer genomics, the series returns to NBC at a time when ancestral and genealogical exploration is enjoying unprecedented popularity. Cutting-edge research tools and billions of digitized records from Ancestry will provide remarkable insights into the star’s background and illustrate the cultural mosaic that connects us all together.

“Dan and I could not possibly be happier to be back at NBC where we get to work with Paul Telegdy, George Cheeks and Meredith Ahr. It honestly feels like we’re back home,” said executive producer Lisa Kudrow.

Each week a different celebrity will go on a poignant search to trace their family tree with the help of historians and experts, unlocking past mysteries and unbelievable real-life stories across the world and through time.

JOSH DUHAMEL, MANDY MOORE, MATTHEW MORRISON AND REGINA KING TRACE THEIR FAMILY TREES AND REVEAL THEIR ANCESTRY ON TLC’S EMMY-AWARD WINNING SERIES, ‘WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE’

TLC’s Emmy Award-winning series, WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? returns on Monday, December 3 at 10:00p.m. ET/PT, with four new episodes featuring celebrities tracing their family history, as they dive into their past and explore their connection to generations that came before them.

With the help of Ancestry.com and historical documents, these stars get the opportunity of a lifetime and embark on exciting missions to discover their own heritage. For some, that may mean tracing back several generations to distinct moments in world history. The celebrities featured in these new episodes are:

  • 12/3 - Mandy Moore - Actress Mandy Moore is shocked to discover ancestors who lived in Australia and travels far, determined to unlock the mystery of how they got there. Moore is touched by the courage of those who made the journey and the sacrifice of those who were left behind. 

  • 12/10 - Josh Duhamel - Actor Josh Duhamel travels to England to investigate the extraordinary life of his twelve times great-grandfather and uncovers an astonishing, dark twist of interrogation and torture that rocks his belief system to the core.

  • 12/17 - Matthew Morrison - Actor Matthew Morrison explores his American roots for the first time and is surprised to discover his family's ties to the Revolutionary War. He learns of the bold lengths his ancestor went through to protect his allegiances and the brutality he faced on the battlefield.

  • 12/17 - Regina King - Actress Regina King investigates her maternal family tree and uncovers an ancestor who was a passionate civil rights activist in Alabama; a man who came out of slavery, endured horrific violence, but never stopped fighting for his people.

(Los Angeles, CA) – TLC’s Emmy Award-winning series, WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? is celebrating its tenth anniversary with the return of a new season on Monday, May 21st at 9/8c featuring a new group of celebrities who are eager to explore their family roots.

This season, six all-new, hour-long episodes will dare to reveal surprising family histories of some the country’s most prominent public figures. With the help of Ancestry.com and historical documents, these stars embark on exciting missions to discover their own heritage. After years of passed down family legends, it is finally time to set the record straight for their families and themselves and uncover the truth behind their ancestry. For some, that may mean tracing back several generations to distinct moments in world history.

This season features the following celebrities:
  • Hilary Duff traces her family history back to medieval Scotland, discovering royalty in her lineage and an unbelievable tale of bravery.
  • Jean Smart explores the curious tale of how her eight times great-grandmother roped her kids into a crime ring in colonial Massachusetts and then went on to be arrested for witchcraft with a surprising outcome.
  • Jon Cryer travels to Boston and learns that his nine times great-grandfather was an indentured servant who made his way to America under harrowing circumstances. 
  • Laverne Cox uncovers new information about the inspiring life of her three times great grandfather who carved out his place in society just a few years after his emancipation from slavery. She begins her journey in Alabama, where she reviews her DNA results and historical documents reveal her ancestor’s tenacity.
  • Megan Mullally chases the dark legacy of her father’s line and uncovers the story of how her two times great-grandmother persevered despite being caught in a cycle of domestic abuse.
  • Molly Shannon travels to Ireland to unravel the mystery of her maternal line, uncovering ancestors who were forced to change their religion in the face of impending starvation before she unexpectedly meets some of her distant cousins along the way.

TLC Renews Who Do You Think You Are? for New Season Premiering Spring 2018

TLC has renewed three-time Emmy nominated series Who Do You Think You Are? for a new season, premiering in spring 2018.  Executive Produced by Lisa Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky, the series follows some of the most beloved and iconic celebrities as they embark on personal journeys of self-discovery by tracing their own family trees. Throughout this experience they learn the truth about old family secrets, discover shocking revelations and ultimately, make unbelievable connections with the lives of their ancestors. The series is currently nominated for an Emmy Award for Structured Reality Program, its 3rd nomination in this category and 4th overall. Last year Who Do You Think You Are? won an Emmy for Outstanding Picture Editing for a Reality Program.

Who Do You Think You Are? 4/16 on TLC

On this Sunday’s episode of Who Do You Think You Are? at 10/9c on TLC, actor John Stamos explores his Greek heritage for the first time and learns more about his grandfather’s sad childhood. He also meets a relative he never knew and hears firsthand about his family's enduring strength. In a suiting coincidence and homage to John’s heritage, the episode premieres on Greek Easter, which is usually celebrated on a different date but this year coincides with the Western calendar’s Easter Sunday.

On this Sunday’s episode of Who Do You Think You Are? at 10/9c on TLC, Motown legend and icon Smokey Robinson dives into his late mother's family history. He searches for answers behind the mystery of why his grandfather disappeared from his children's lives, and finds a man tangled in a swirl of controversy. Then Smokey uncovers the story of his great-grandfather, and comes face to face with horrific history he knew was inevitable.
