Oscar-winning producer Donna Gigliotti will produce the 91st Oscars, and Emmy®-winning director Glenn Weiss will co-produce and direct the show, Academy President John Bailey announced today.  The Oscars will air live on The ABC Television Network and broadcast outlets worldwide on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019.
“I’m grateful to the Academy and ABC for entrusting me with this very special opportunity,” said Gigliotti. “I’m sure it will prove to be a humbling, exhilarating and completely unique experience.  Thankfully, I will have Glenn Weiss by my side every step of the way!”
“I’m so looking forward to being back to help celebrate and honor the film industry and all the talented people behind this year’s movies,” said Weiss. “And I am ‘co-excited’ to be co-producing this year’s show with Donna Gigliotti!”

Gigliotti won a Best Picture Oscar for “Shakespeare in Love” and earned nominations for “Hidden Figures,” “Silver Linings Playbook” and “The Reader.” Her other producing credits include such features as “The Fundamentals of Caring,” “Beasts of No Nation,” “Two Lovers,” “The Good Night” and “Emma.” The films she has produced and overseen have earned a total of 43 Oscar nominations. 
Returning to direct his fourth consecutive Oscars, Weiss has won 14 Primetime Emmy Awards, including one earlier this year for the 90th Oscars. He has directed and produced numerous televised events, including 18 Tony Awards® shows.  His other directing credits include “The Kennedy Center Honors,” “Billboard Music Awards,” “BET Awards,” “Peter Pan Live!,” “Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest,” “Primetime Emmy Awards,” “Live from Lincoln Center,” “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular,” “Garth Brooks, Live from Las Vegas” and the “American Music Awards.”
The 91st Oscars will be held on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, at the Dolby® Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, and will be televised live on The ABC Television Network. “The Oscars” also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.

Cast as the Buendía Siblings in Reimagined Pilot of the Iconic Series
 
Today, Freeform announced the four actors cast in the highly anticipated pilot “Party of Five.” Brandon Larracuente, Emily Tosta, Niko Guardado and Elle Paris Legaspi will take on the roles of the Buendía siblings; Emilio, Lucia, Beto and Valentina, respectively; who struggle to survive together as a family after their parents are deported to Mexico. From Sony Pictures Television, the Freeform pilot will be a modern reimagining of the groundbreaking original series by Christopher Keyser and Amy Lippman, who reunited to write the pilot alongside Michal Zebede (“Castle”), with Rodrigo Garcia (“Nine Lives”) set to direct.
Brandon Larracuente (“13 Reasons Why”) has been cast as Emilio Buendía, an aspiring musician and the oldest son of Gloria and Javier Buendía. Emilio is the reason his parents crossed the Mexican border into the United States nearly twenty-five years ago in hopes of a better life. Although the oldest, he’s the least responsible of the siblings, and had been enjoying living away from home and the freedom that came with it until his parents’ status was threatened.
Emily Tosta (“Mayans M.C.”) will play Lucia Buendía, a straight-A student with lofty college ambitions until her parents run into trouble with immigration. Their circumstances force her to reevaluate her disposition to play by the rules. She quickly becomes resistant to authority, politically radicalized and rebellious to her presumed duties as the oldest sister.
Niko Guardado (“The Goldbergs”) portrays Beto Buendía, the second oldest brother of the family who steps up in the midst of turmoil. While struggling with sports, girls and school, he soon discovers that being the head of his family comes easily to him and gives him the self-respect and sense of purpose he has never had before. 
Finally, newcomer Elle Paris Legaspi rounds out the cast as ten-year-old Valentina Buendía, the precocious and resourceful youngest sister. Forced to face adolescence without her mother, she’s desperately afraid of what the future holds, and her vulnerability will require her older siblings to step up and offer the structure and support that they may not be wholly equipped to provide.
The new iteration of “Party of Five” is a modern twist on the beloved original series created by Christopher Keyser and Amy Lippman. Keyser, Lippman and Rodrigo Garcia will executive produce the pilot and Michal Zebede serves as co-executive producer.
Freeform’s original scripted roster includes “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger,” “Siren,” “The Bold Type,” “grown-ish,” “Alone Together,” and the highly-anticipated upcoming series “Good Trouble” and “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists.”

To kick things off this season, the promotions campaign celebrates Rickey's proud HBCU roots with a series of hilarious, high-energy spots. In this season's opener, all the kids have moved out and Rickey finally has the house to himself. Just as Rickey gets comfortable being an empty nester, four new teenagers move into his Birmingham mansion courtesy of his cousin Summer, who's looking for a fresh start after suffering from a stroke.
Rickey must also deal with his college-aged daughter D'Essence getting arrested for two DUI's, Aaryn's mom getting remarried, and turning 50.

Over at the radio station, Gary with da Tea reveals he has a life-threatening health issue. Da Brat informs Jermaine Dupri and Bow Wow that she wants to hold a "Queen of the Ring" in Atlanta with Babs Bunny. Headkrack and Beyonce have started an event planning company, and Porsha Williams tries to play matchmaker for Rickey.

It's well known that Rickey can throw down in the kitchen and this season, he's bringing his passion to a brand new online cooking show. Victor Vierra, in his first television interview, who was stationed at the Demilitarised Zone at the time of the axe murders of August 1976, when two United States Army officers were killed by North Korean soldiers; Kang In-Deok, director of the Korean CIA, North Korea bureau; Ko Young-Hwan, interpreter for Kim Il Sung; Michael Yi, interrogation specialist for the American CIA; Kim Hyun Hui, former North Korean espionage agent and the bomber of Korean Airline Flight 858; American basketball star Dennis Rodman, in one of his most in-depth and candid interviews on his relationship with the current leader; and many others.

Producers culled through nearly 400 hours of tapes to assemble a collection of archival footage to drive the narrative of the story. Viewers will be privy to rarely seen footage from the Swedish film "One for All, All for One"; the Czech film "Fighting Korea," a film about the Korean War; the French film "The Hermit Kingdom," about North Korean life in the 1970s; Jyeung-Kyun's and Wook's archive audio tapes and stills that have never been heard or seen on American television; an exclusive TV Asahi interview taped in Beijing with Kim Jong Nam, the eldest son of Kim Jong Il that has never been seen outside of Asia; and seldom-heard stories of Kenji Fujimoto, Kim Jong Il's personal sushi chef, that have never been featured on English-language television.

There are two histories of the only family that has ruled North Korea, or the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, as the regime prefers to call it. One can be pieced together from the scraps of intelligence that exist: dubious statistics; the comments of the country's leaders and diplomats; the testimonies of its refugees and defectors; and the partial, highly circumscribed observations of visitors to the country. The second is the "official" history - written and constructed by Pyongyang for domestic and international consumption. That history is a mix of hyperbole, legend and myth. INSIDE NORTH KOREA'S DYNASTY will aim to combine both of these histories.

This four-part series documents the birth of the Kim dynasty by examining the rise and rule of the founder of North Korea, Kim Il Sung; his son, Kim Jong Il; and his grandson and the current leader, Kim Jong Un. The episodes include the following:
"Kingdom of the Kims"

For decades, Korea and its people laboured under Japanese imperialist rule. But in 1912, in a small town outside Pyongyang, a child is born - Kim Il Sung, coinciding with an omen of imperialism's doom. This is the story of how an unknown guerrilla fighter rises to power, takes complete control of his country and makes himself a god in the eyes of his people. Recounted through firsthand testimony and expertly curated archive, "Kingdom of the Kims" explores Sung's early days in power, how he starts the Korean War, establishes gulags for anyone who could be "hostile", tries to assassinate the President of South Korea, and plays a dangerous game of brinksmanship with the United States, including capturing a US Navy ship - the USS Pueblo - taking American sailors prisoner, and the infamous tree-cutting axe murders in the Demilitarised Zone.

"The Son of God"

Unpacking the unique Kim father-son relationship further, "The Son of God" tracks the decline of Kim Il Sung and the rise of his son, Kim Jong Il. Jong is an unlikely successor to his father. He is not a military man - he is obsessed with cinema, particularly James Bond films. "The Son of God" tells the story of how he uses filmmaking and propaganda to win his father's approval - and power. Not only did Jong love James Bond films, but the films influenced his behaviour in trying to immitate a real-life Bond villain. Beginning in the 1970s, this film explores Jong's rise to power as the heir apparent of North Korea, delving into such pivotal incidents as the kidnapping of filmmakers Choi Eun Hee and Shin Sang Ok; the attempted assassination of the president of South Korea; and the terror campaign waged by North Korea, such as the Korean Airline bombing by Kim Hyon Hui, in the buildup to the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

"Nuclear Family"

"Nuclear Family" begins as the Cold War ends - and North Korea has lost Soviet patronage, and with it, the security it guarantees and the economic support that has sustained the country for nearly half a century. As Kim Jong Il takes complete control of the country, he also starts a nuclear weapons program. With the country's economy failing, his government makes counterfeit $100 bills, and sets up factories making crystal meth and other narcotics. He also employs a private sushi chef, and hosts lavish banquets and parties while the country continues to struggle economically - all while at the same time negotiating with the United States.

"Rocket Man"
Premieres Sunday, Nov. 18, at 10/9c
The final episode starts with the death of Kim Jong Il and the rise of the new leader of North Korea - his son, Kim Jong Un, taking power at the age of 28. Using exclusive interviews, firsthand testimony and expertly curated archive, "Rocket Man" charts Un's reign from 2011 to present day; delves into how Un consolidated power, by killing his uncle and his half-brother; examines the incredible story of his unexpected friendship with basketball star Dennis Rodman; retells his announcing that he has nuclear weapons that can reach the United States; and breaks down the historic 2018 summit with US President Trump.

Acclaimed Academy Award Winning Filmmaker Set to Direct, Write, and Produce Stop Motion Animated Musical

Hollywood, Calif. (Oct. 22, 2018) - Academy Award winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is making his animated feature film directorial debut at Netflix with his lifelong passion project, Pinocchio, which he will also write and produce as a stop motion musical. Pinocchio will be del Toro's first feature film since The Shape of Water, which garnered four Academy Awards last year, including for Best Director and Best Picture.

Del Toro has set his retelling of the classic tale of Pinocchio in Italy during the 1930s. This marks an expansion of Netflix's existing relationship with Guillermo del Toro, who created their Emmy award-winning television series DreamWorks' Trollhunters, the first installment of the DreamWorks' Tales of Arcadia trilogy. The next chapter, 3Below, is set to debut on December 21, 2018, followed by Wizards in 2019. He is also the creator of the upcoming Netflix series, Guillermo del Toro Presents 10 After Midnight.

Pinocchio is a production of Guillermo del Toro, The Jim Henson Company (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance), and ShadowMachine (Bojack Horseman, The Shivering Truth), which will house the stop-motion animation production. Alongside del Toro, Lisa Henson, ShadowMachine's Alex Bulkley, Corey Campodonico, and Gary Ungar of Exile Entertainment will produce. Blanca Lista will co-produce. Also alongside del Toro, Patrick McHale (Over The Garden Wall, Adventure Time) will co-write the script, Mark Gustafson (Fantastic Mr. Fox) will co-direct, and Guy Davis will serve as co-production designer, taking inspiration from Gris Grimly's original design for the Pinocchio character. The film's puppets will be built by Mackinnon and Saunders (Corpse Bride). Netflix expects production on Pinocchio to begin this fall.
