Tomorrow night on TLC, the premiere of MY 600-LB LIFE: WHERE ARE THEY NOW at 8/7c and a new episode of SKIN TIGHT at 10/9c.
My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now
At 8/7c, after being stuck in bed for 10 years and finally losing weight, Lupe now claims that she's lost the strength to get out of bed. Dr. Now wonders if the struggle is all in her head, since Lupe is half the size she once was and is still struggling to continue losing weight in order to qualify for skin surgery. Her husband Gilbert has stayed by her side but their marriage is often a battleground. With all the continuous care-giving he must do, Gilbert is increasingly embittered. Will Lupe's tumultuous marriage persevere? Can she finally regain her health or will she revert to her old bedridden ways?
We also follow Ashley, who once weighed more than 700lbs but in a single year managed to shed nearly half that weight. Ashley is more mobile and independent than ever before and it's freed her young son, Patrick from the burden of being his mother's caretaker. However, Ashley is still struggling with neuropathy in her leg and a fragile emotional state that's starting to block her from further weight loss. With skin surgery as her main goal, she's derailed when psychosomatic symptoms have her believing she is paralyzed from the waist down. Before moving forward towards her skin surgery goals, she must face her demons and find the strength to push forward so she can live a better life.
Then at 10/9c, Sarah was a happy child until the ravages of drug addiction tore her family apart and left her alone and vulnerable. Her difficult childhood caused her to gain weight excessively and use her obesity as a shield to protect herself from the world. Later in life, she met a man with wounds of his own, a former Marine with PTSD. They found understanding, love and hope in each other which prompted her to have gastric bypass surgery. The weight came off quickly, but she was left with horrific amounts of excess skin that serve as a tangible reminder of her difficult past. Sarah wants to get rid of the skin, close the door on the past and start working towards a degree as a trauma counselor.
Viewers will also meet Roger, who used to weigh so much he could only hold a job as a nightclub bouncer. Being around that crowd led him to a life of drugs which, at his weight, spun his life out of control. His life turned around when he found out he'd be a father, influencing him to atone for his life of crime and get a gastric sleeve to lose weight rapidly. But he quickly found out that as he lost weight, his body turned into a massive collection of skin. Now, the skin keeps him from getting a job to support his family, or from even enjoying his time with his two kids. If he doesn't get the skin removed, he'll never be able to be the father he hoped to become when he first turned his life around.
