SUNDANCE TV KICKS OFF SPRING WITH AN EPIC, HEROIC
AND REVENGE- SEEKING ALL-DAY ‘BEST OF THE WEST’ MARATHON

A Round-up of Timeless Westerns Begins on Sunday, April 8th with the TV Series
“The Rifleman”, followed by Trailblazing Films 3:10 to Yuma, How the West Was Won,
The Quick and the Dead, The Outlaw Josey Wales and Hang ‘em High

SundanceTV is tipping its cowboy hat off to Western classics with an all-day “Best of the West” marathon on Sunday, April 8th starting at 6am ET/5am CT. The showdowns on the frontier begin with “The Rifleman,” an American Western television series starring Chuck Connors about the adventures of a Wild West rancher and his son wielding a customized rapid-fire Winchester rifle. Next is Russell Crowe as Outlaw Ben Wade in the 2007 Academy Award® nominated remake 3:10 to Yuma. Following this rendition, the 1962 original How the West Was Won; one of the last old-fashioned epic films about the journey to the West starring James Stewart and John Wayne. Following that is the 1995 feature film The Quick and the Dead starring Sharon Stone who plays a female gunfighter returning home to avenge her father's death. She stars opposite Russell Crowe, Leonardo DiCaprio and Gene Hackman. The SundanceTV marathon concludes with two of Clint Eastwood’s iconic Westerns. The first titled The Outlaw Josey Wales, is the revisionist Western that is set during and after the Civil War in which a man seeks revenge for the murder of his family. The final movie of the day is Eastwood’s Hang ‘em High. The classic film starring Eastwood follows a lawman who seeks revenge on his enemies after barely surviving a lynching.

SUNDAY, APRIL 8TH
“The Rifleman” – 6:00am ET
Set in the 1870s and 80s, the pioneering American Western television series follows the journeys of rancher Lucas McCain (Chuck Connors) and his son Mark McCain (Johnny Crawford). After his wife’s death, McCain and his young son leave Enid, Oklahoma to buy a ranch outside the fictitious town of North Fork, New Mexico Territory where the Union Civil War veteran battles desperados, while oftentimes giving second chances.

3:10 to Yuma12:00pm ET
Outlaw Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) terrorizes 1800s Arizona, especially the Southern Railroad, until he is finally captured. Wade must be brought to trial, so Dan Evans (Christian Bale), the owner of a drought-stricken ranch, volunteers to escort him to the train. Along the trail, a grudging respect forms between the men, but danger looms at every turn, and the criminal's men are in pursuit.

How the West Was Won2:00pm ET
Setting off on a journey to the west in the 1830s, the Prescott family run into a man named Linus (James Stewart), who helps them fight off a pack of thieves. Linus then marries daughter Eve Prescott (Carroll Baker), and 30 years later goes off to fight in the Civil War with their son, with bloody results. Eve's sister, Lily (Debbie Reynolds), heads further west and has adventures with a professional gambler (Gregory Peck), stretching all the way to San Francisco and into the 1880s. the film was nominated for eight Academy Awards®, bringing home three.

The Quick and the Dead5:30pm ET
A mysterious woman gunslinger, Ellen (Sharon Stone), known as The Lady, saunters into the town of Redemption looking for revenge. Her father was killed by the town's sadistic mayor, Herod (Gene Hackman), who is in the midst of organizing a quick-draw tournament. The Lady enters, joining a cast of miscreants and outlaws for a brutal competition in which the loser dies. Among the competitors is "The Kid" (Leonardo DiCaprio), an upstart who has his own score to settle with Herod. The film also stars Russell Crowe as Cort, Herod henchman turned preacher

The Outlaw Josey Wales8:00pm ET
Nominated for an Academy Award®, the film follows Josey Wales (Clint Eastwood) as he watches helplessly as his wife and child are murdered by Union men led by Captain Terrill (Bill McKinney). Seeking revenge, Wales joins the Confederate Army. He refuses to surrender when the war ends, but his fellow soldiers go to hand over their weapons –  and are massacred by Terrill. Wales guns down some of Terrill's men and flees to Texas, where he tries to make a new life for himself, but the bounty on his head endangers him and his new surrogate family.

Hang ‘em High 11:00pm ET
After a gang of men unsuccessfully attempts to lynch him for cattle rustling: a crime he did not commit, Jed Cooper (Clint Eastwood) is saved by marshal Dave Bliss (Ben Johnson) and judge Adam Fenton (Pat Hingle). The lawmen offer him a job as a federal marshal with the caveat that he not abuse his new power to seek revenge against his tormentors. However, when Cooper finds that some of the men who attacked him are involved in another set of crimes, he fights to bring them to justice.
