The season finale of ABC’s “Celebrity Family Feud” shot up week to week by 35% in Total Viewers (5.4 million vs. 4.0 million) to draw its largest audience since July (since 7/28/19) and by 67% in Adults 18-49 (1.0/4 vs. 0.6/3) to match its highest-rated telecast of the season. In addition, “CFF” posted double-digit gains over its year-ago finale(4.1 million and 0.6/2 on 9/23/18) in both Viewers (+31%) and Adults 18-49 (+67%).
“Shark Tank” (9:00-10:00 p.m. – 3.8 million and 0.7/3 in AD18-49):
At 9:00 p.m., the season premiere of ABC’s “Shark Tank” grew by double digits over its year-ago opener (on 10/7/18 at 10:00 p.m.) in Total Viewers (+27% – 3.8 million vs. 3.0 million) and in Adults 18-49 (+17% – 0.7/3 vs. 0.6/2). In fact, “Shark Tank” stood as the only entertainment series to build over its prior-year premiere in Adults 18-49 this season.
“The Rookie” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 4.0 million and 0.7/3 in AD18-49):
Moving to Sunday night this season, ABC’s season two premiere of “The Rookie” delivered triple-digit time period improvement over the L+SD average of “The Alec Baldwin Show” in the hour last season, soaring by 186% in Total Viewers (4.0 million vs. 1.4 million) and by 250% in Adults 18-49 (0.7/3 vs. 0.2/1). In fact, “The Rookie” marked ABC’s most-watched Fall premiere in the Sunday 10 o’clock hour in 4 years and highest-rated among Adults 18-49 in 3 years—since 9/27/15 and 9/25/16, respectively. “The Rookie” grew over its “Shark Tank” lead-in by 5% in Total Viewers and held 100% in Adults 18-49.
  • ABC’s “The Rookie” was the only program on the major networks last season to post triple-digit delayed-viewing gains in Total Viewers, soaring by +101% from its L+SD to its L+7 average. In addition, “The Rookie” more than doubled its Adult 18-49 rating with growth of +114% last season from L+SD to L+7.

ABC claimed the night’s Top 2 TV series with “Grey’s Anatomy” (1.5/7)—No. 1—and “A Million Little Things” (1.1/5)—No. 2—among Adults 18-49.

“Grey’s Anatomy” (8:00-9:00 p.m. – 6.5 million and 1.5/7 in AD18-49):
The 16th season premiere of ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” spiked over its May finale by 15% in Adults 18-49 (1.5/7 vs. 1.3/7 on 5/16/19) to top its final 4 episodes of the prior season and to match its highest-rated telecast since March—since 3/28/19. Grey’s” was Thursday’s No. 1 TV series among Adults 18-49.

“A Million Little Things” (9:00-10:00 p.m. – 5.0 million and 1.1/5 in AD18-49):
The season two premiere of ABC’s “A Million Little Things” tied its year-ago debut and its May finale in Adults 18-49 (1.1/5) to match a series high. “AMLT” was the night’s No. 2 TV series with Adults 18-49, behind only ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.” The sophomore ABC drama was the No. 1 entertainment program in Thursday’s 9:00 p.m. hour among Adults 18-49, dominating CBS’ comedy premieres by 38% (0.8/3) and more than doubling NBC’s comedy premieres (+120% – 0.5/2).

·       A big draw in delayed viewing during its freshman season, A Million Little Things” posted triple-digit DVR growth among Adults 18-49, skyrocketing by +122% from Live + Same Day to Live + 7 Day (2.0/9 vs. 0.9/4) and, beyond that, jumping by more than +2.50 rating points (+289%) over its initial Live + Same Day Adult 18-49 rating to its Multiplatform + 35 Day rating (+2.66 rating – 3.58 rating vs. 0.92 rating).

“How To Get Away with Murder” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 2.5 million and 0.6/3 in AD18-49):
The 6th and final season premiere of ABC’s “How to Get Away with Murder” ran neck-and-neck with its CBS and NBC drama competition as the No. 1 series in Thursday’s 10:00 p.m. hour among Adults 18-49 (0.6/3), coming within 1-tenth of a rating point of NBC’s “Law & Order: SVU” opener (0.7/4) and CBS’ “Evil” debut (0.7/3).

·       “How to Get Away with Murder” more than doubled its Live + Same Day Adult 18-49 rating last season, soaring by +114% after 7 days of delayed viewing (1.5/7 vs. 0.7/3) and jumping by +309% from L+SD to its Multiplatform + 35 Day rating (+2.07 rating – 2.74 rating vs. 0.67 rating).

ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” ranked as the No. 1 late-night talk show on Wednesday among Adults 18-49 (0.5/4) in the 25 LPM Markets, dominating NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” (0.3/2) and CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” (0.3/2) by 67% each. “Kimmel” welcomed presidential candidate Joe Biden, Cobie Smulders from ABC’s “Stumptown” and musical guest James Blake on Wednesday.
Excluding the NBA Finals led-telecast in June, “Kimmel” matched its highest-rated telecast on any night since March and its strongest Wednesday telecast since December 2018 in Adults 18-49 – since Monday, 3/11/19, and Wednesday, 12/5/18, respectively.
“Kimmel” grew for the 2nd consecutive day in Adults 18-49 (+25% – 0.5/4 vs. 0.4/3 on Tuesday) to deliver its highest-rated telecast of Premiere Week so far.

The new ABC drama outdrew CBS’ “Big Brother” finale by 10% to rank No. 2 in the hour in Total Viewers (4.1 million), behind NBC’s “Chicago P.D.” season premiere.

2018-2019 Season:
“World News Tonight” won the 2018-19 season in Total Viewers (8.609 million), representing the 3rd consecutive season to win in overall viewers, based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” season viewership is on par with last season’s highest viewership in 13 years.

Anchor David Muir had 18 reporting trips this season, including exclusive on the ground special reports from Afghanistan on fight against the Taliban, Iraq near the Syria border with U.S. forces during operation against ISIS fighters, Paris from inside Notre Dame cathedral for first time ever after the fire, and Normandy documenting the journey for a half dozen World War II veterans.

“World News Tonight” outdelivered “NBC Nightly News” (7.945 million) by 664,000, increasing its margin of victory from the previous season by 37% (vs. 483,000 for the 2017-18 season) to its largest in 23 years—since the 1995-96 season.

“World News Tonight” cut its season margins by more than half in both Adults 25-54 (-67% – 26,000 vs. 78,000) and Adults 18-49 (-76% – 20,000 vs. 83,000), posting its closest performances in both key Adult demos in 12 years—since the 2006-2007 season.
During the season, “World News Tonight” (8.609 million, 1.720 million and 1.165 million, respectively) defeated “CBS Evening News” (5.835 million, 1.162 million and 829,000, respectively) by 2.774 million Total Viewers, by 558,000 Adults 25-54 and by 336,000 Adults 18-49, turning in its biggest Total Viewer advantage in at least 27 years (since at least the start of Nielsen electronic database in 1991-1992 season).

3rd Quarter 2019:
ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” won the 3rd Quarter 2019 in Total Viewers (8.145 million), based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” took the top spot during a 3rd quarter for the 3rd year running and for the last 10 quarters in a row. In addition, “World News Tonight” finished neck and neck with “NBC Nightly News” in Adults 18-49 as only 1,000 separated the two programs during the quarter (1.052 million vs. 1.053 million).

“World News Tonight” outdelivered “NBC Nightly News” (7.213 million) by 932,000 Total Viewers, increasing its margin of victory from the previous quarter by 18% (vs. 793,000 for 2Q19) and the year-ago quarter by 73% (vs. 539,000 for 3Q18). In addition, “World News Tonight” turned in its largest 3rd quarter lead over the NBC program in 24 years and biggest during any quarter in over 23 years—since 3Q95 and 2Q96, respectively.
For the 7th year in a row, “World News Tonight” built on the year-ago 3rd quarter in Total Viewers (+71,000/+1% – 8.145 million vs. 8.074 million for 3Q18), attracting its largest overall 3rd quarter audience in 15 years—since 3Q04. Additionally, “World News Tonight” stood as the only evening newscast to add viewers over 3Q18.


“World News Tonight” slashed its margins from the year-ago quarter (3Q18) with “NBC Nightly News” in Adults 25-54 (-48% – 33,000 vs. 63,000) and Adults 18-49 (-97% – 1,000 vs. 29,000), posting its closest 3rd  quarter news demo performance in 5 years and narrowest in Adults 18-49 in 12 years—since 3Q14 and 3Q07, respectively.

For the 3rd quarter, “World News Tonight” (8.145 million, 1.513 million and 1.052 million, respectively) outperformed the “CBS Evening News” (5.092 million, 982,000 and 703,000, respectively) by 3.053 million Total Viewers, by 531,000 Adults 25-54 and by 349,000 Adults 18-49, posting its biggest Total Viewer advantage during any quarter in at least 27 years (since at least the start of Nielsen electronic database in 1991-1992 season).

Week of September 16, 2019:

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” stood as the No. 1 evening newscast in Total Viewers (8.136 million) for the week of Sept. 16, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. Winning the final week of the season, “World News Tonight” outperformed “NBC Nightly News” (7.337 million) by 799,000, widening its lead both week to week (+51%; vs. 530,000 for w/o 9/9/19) and year to year (+23%; vs. 652,000 for w/o 9/17/18). Further, “World News Tonight” won 51 of 52 weeks of the season.

“World News Tonight” improved on the previous week (w/o 9/9/19) in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+45,000/+1% – 8.136 million vs. 8.091 million), Adults 25-54 (+70,000/+5% – 1.538 million vs. 1.468 million) and Adults 18-49 (+46,000/+4% – 1.092 million vs. 1.046 million).

“World News Tonight” decreased its margins from the previous week (w/o 9/9/19) with “NBC Nightly News” in both Adults 25-54 (-34% – 93,000 vs. 141,000) and Adults 18-49 (-30% – 40,000 vs. 57,000).

For the week, “World News Tonight” (8.136 million, 1.538 million and 1.092 million, respectively) defeated “CBS Evening News” (5.040 million, 921,000 and 665,000, respectively) by 3.096 million Total Viewers, by 617,000 Adults 25-54 and by 427,000 Adults 18-49, scoring its largest leads in both key adult demos in over 3 months—since w/o 6/3/19.

“The Conners” (8:00-8:30 p.m. – 5.7 million and 1.3/7 in AD18-49):
The 2nd season premiere of ABC’s “The Conners” ranked No. 1 in its half-hour among Adults 18-49 (1.3/7), tied with CBS’ “NCIS” season premiere and NBC’s “The Voice” season opener. “The Conners” opened as the highest-rated comedy of Premiere Week so far in Adults 18-49.

“Bless This Mess” (8:30-9:00 p.m. – 4.0 million and 0.8/4 in AD18-49):
Shifting to the 8:30 p.m. time slot this season (from 9:30 p.m. last season), the season two premiere of ABC’s “Bless This Mess” shot up over its May finale (on 5/21/19) by 43% in Total Viewers (4.0 million vs. 2.8 million) and by 33% among Adults 18-49 (0.8/4 vs. 0.6/3) to score its 2nd-best numbers ever, behind only its April series debut.

“mixed-ish” (9:00-9:30 p.m. – 4.0 million and 0.9/4 in AD18-49):
The debut of ABC’s “mixed-ish” built over its “Bless This Mess” lead-in by 13% among Adults 18-49 (0.9/4 vs. 0.8/4), standing as the only new program so far during Premiere Week to improve on its lead-in. ABC’s “mixed-ish” delivered the network’s best results with a comedy telecast in the half-hour since November in Total Viewers (4.0 million) and Adults 18-49 (0.8/4) – since 11/13/18.

“black-ish” (9:30-10:00 p.m. – 3.5 million and 0.8/4 in AD18-49):
The sixth season premiere of ABC’s “black-ish” soared over its May finale (on 5/21/19) by 21% in Total Viewers (3.5 million vs. 2.9 million) to draw its largest audience since December and by 14% in Adults 18-49 (0.8/4 vs. 0.7/3) to tie its highest-rated episode since November– since 12/11/18 and 11/27/18, respectively. Moving to the 9:30 p.m. half-hour this season, “black-ish” improved its new time slot over the L+SD average of “Splitting Up Together” last season (2.7 million and 0.6/3) by 30% in Viewers and by 33% with Adults 18-49.

“Emergence” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 4.1 million and 0.8/4 in AD18-49):
ABC’s series debut of “Emergence” grew over its “black-ish” lead-in by 17% in Total Viewers (4.1 million vs. 3.5 million) and held 100% among Adults 18-49 (0.8/4). The new ABC drama beat out CBS’ “NCIS: New Orleans” by 14% for No. 2 in the hour among Adults 18-49 (0.7/4), behind NBC’s “New Amsterdam” (which is inflated due to an 8-minute overrun from “This Is Us”). Emergence” ranked as the No. 2 new drama of Premiere Week in Adults 18-49 (0.8/4-tie), behind only Fox’s “9-1-1”-boosted “Prodigal Son.”

2018-2019 Season: 
For the 2018-2019 season, “Nightline” drew 1.230 million Total Viewers, 421,000 Adults 25-54 and 312,000 Adults 18-49. “Nightline” beat CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+29,000 – 421,000 vs. 392,000) and Adults 18-49 (+28,000 – 312,000 vs. 284,000) to lead the CBS program for the 4th season in a row in both measures. 

“Nightline” narrowed its season-to-season margins with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in both Adults 25-54 (-37% – 74,000 vs. 117,000) and Adults 18-49 (-45% – 55,000 vs. 100,000), posting its closest-ever Adults 18-49 performance over the NBC program – since the 2014-2015 season.

3Q 2019:
ABC News’ “Nightline” averaged 1.078 million Total Viewers, 351,000 Adults 25-54 and 261,000 Adults 18-49 during the 3rd Quarter 2019, based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” defeated CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (1.045 million, 302,000 and 213,000, respectively) during the 3rd quarter in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+33,000), Adults 25-54 (+49,000) and Adults 18-49 (+48,000).   

In addition, “Nightline” has beaten the CBS program in both key adult measures for the 7th consecutive quarter and in 17 of the 18 quarters that the two programs have aired in the time slot – since 2Q15.

“Nightline” slashed its margins from the year-ago quarter (3Q18) with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in all key target demos:  Total Viewers (-42% – 103,000 vs. 179,000), Adults 25-54 (-58% – 49,000 vs. 116,000) and Adults 18-49 (-65% – 32,000 vs. 92,000). In fact, “Nightline” turned in its closest 3rd quarter ever versus the NBC program in both key adult demos – since 3Q14. 

Week of Sept. 16, 2019:
ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in Adults 25-54 (353,000), during the week of Sept. 16, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” beat NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” (347,000) by 6,000 and CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (299,000) by 54,000.

“Nightline” also defeated NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in Total Viewers (+33,000 – 1.055 million vs. 1.022 million) and outperformed CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 18-49 (+46,000 – 260,000 vs. 214,000).

“Nightline” saw week-to-week increases (1.011 million, 328,000 and 240,000, respectively, for w/o 9/9/19) across the board: Total Viewers (+4%), Adults 25-54 (+8%) and Adults 18-49 (+8%), drawing its largest overall audience in 10 weeks, while hitting a 3-month high in the key adults news demo – since weeks of 7/8/19 and 6/17/19, respectively.

Stories reported on “Nightline last week included filmmaker Morgan Spurlock addressing his #MeToo confession, an inside look at what’s been called a major drug and human trafficking corridor in Pima County, Arizona, a tribute to legendary journalist Cokie Roberts’ life covering politics, and a mommy blogger’s decision to document her journey to sobriety when a drinking problem developed after she chose to become a stay-at-home mom.

ABC News’ “Nightline” is late-night television‘s prestigious, award-winning news program featuring the most powerful, in-depth stories that shape our lives and the world around us. “The Good Doctor” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 6.6 million and 1.0/5 in AD18-49):
ABC’s “The Good Doctor” premiered as the No. 1 program in Monday’s 10:00 p.m. hour in Total Viewers (6.6 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.0/5), beating NBC’s debut of “Bluff City Law” (4.7 million and 0.8/4) and CBS’ season opener of “Bull” (6.3 million and 0.7/3). Standing as the only program of the night to build over its lead-in with Adults 18-49, “The Good Doctor” grew over its “DWTS” lead-in by 25% (1.0/5 vs. 0.8/4).

  • 2018-2019 Live+7 Day playback: ABC’s “The Good Doctor” ranked as Monday’s No. 1 broadcast gainer in delayed viewing last season among Adults 18-49, soaring by +127% from its initial Live+SD rating to its final Live+7 rating. “The Good Doctor” also picked up a massive +5.96 million Total Viewers after seven days of delayed viewing last season, virtually tying NBC’s “Manifest” (+6.12 million) as the season’s No. 1 gainer among Total Viewers.

“20/20” stood as Friday’s No. 1 newsmagazine, beating NBC’s “Dateline” (10:00-11:00 p.m.) in Total Viewers (+48% – 3.7 million vs. 2.5 million), Adults 18-49 (+25% – 0.5/3 vs. 0.4/3) and Adults 25-54 (+14% – 0.8/4 vs. 0.7/3).   

From 9:00-11:00 p.m., ABC’s “20/20” improved by double digits week to week with Total Viewers (+42% – 3.7 million vs. 2.6 million), Adults 18-49 (+25% – 0.5/3 vs. 0.4/2) and Adults 25-54 (+14% – 0.8/4 vs. 0.7/3). “20/20” saw its largest overall audience in over 5 months and strongest news demo performance in 3 months – since 4/5/19 and 6/14/19, respectively.

During the 2018-2019 season, “20/20” posted increases on the previous season with Total Viewers (+13% – 4.4 million vs. 3.9 million), Adults 18-49 (+14% – 0.8/4 vs. 0.7/3) and Adults 25-54 (+20% – 1.2/5 vs. 1.0/4). NBC’s “Dateline” was down from last season: Total Viewers (-16% – 4.6 million vs. 5.5 million), Adults 18-49 (-20% – 0.8/4 vs. 1.0/5) and Adults 25-54 (-20% – 1.2/5 vs. 1.5/5).   

The two-hour “20/20” program reported on the murder of Mandy Stavik, the cold case finally solved after nearly 20 years.

  • ABC’s “The Bachelorette” (+5%) and “Bachelor in Paradise-Mon” (+6%) are the only two broadcast series to improve over the prior summer with Adults 18-49.



  • ABC holds even versus the comparable 16 weeks last summer in Adults 18-49, while CBS (-25%) and NBC (-17%) are down by double digits.

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” finished as the No. 1 evening newscast in Total Viewers (8.091 million) for the week of Sept. 9, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” outdelivered “NBC Nightly News” (7.561 million) by 530,000, increasing its advantage year to year by 4% (vs. 509,000 for w/o 9/10/18) and winning for the 50th time in the 51 weeks of the season.

On Monday, “World News Tonight” featured Muir’s exclusive reporting from Iraq with U.S. forces during an operation against ISIS fighters.

“World News Tonight” cut its year-to-year gaps (w/o 9/10/18) with “NBC Nightly News” in both Adults 25-54 (-14% – 141,000 vs. 164,000) and Adults 18-49 (-50% – 57,000 vs. 113,000).

“World News Tonight” narrowed its Adults 18-49 margin “NBC Nightly News” from the previous week by 17% (57,000 vs. 69,000 for w/o 9/2/19).

For the week, “World News Tonight” defeated “CBS Evening News” (5.021 million, 916,000 and 649,000, respectively) by 3.070 million Total Viewers, by 552,000 Adults 25-54 and by 397,000 Adults 18-49.

Season to date, “World News Tonight” ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 3rd year in a row after finishing as the No. 1 evening newscast for the last two seasons. “World News Tonight” (8.618 million) leads “NBC Nightly News” (7.957 million) by 661,000, delivering its largest Total Viewer lead in 23 years (since the 1995-1996 season) and “CBS Evening News” (5.852 million) by 2.766 million, posting its biggest Total Viewer advantage in at least 27 years (since at least the start of Nielsen electronic database in 1991-1992 season).

In addition, “World News Tonight” is cutting its season margins with NBC by more than half in both Adults 25-54 (-69% – 24,000 vs. 78,000) and Adults 18-49 (-76% – 20,000 vs. 84,000), posting its closest performances in both key Adult demos in 12 years—since the 2006-2007 season.

ABC Monday Prime (8:00-11:00 p.m. – 6.2 million and 0.8/4 in AD18-49):  

Featuring the season premiere of “Dancing with the Stars,” ABC won Monday night in Total Viewers (6.2 million), outdrawing runner-up NBC with the season finale of “American Ninja Warrior” by 41% (4.4 million). ABC attracted its largest Monday night audience with entertainment programming in 6 months – since 3/11/19.



“Dancing with the Stars” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 8.0 million and 1.0/5 in AD18-49):

ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” premiere grew over its year-ago season opener by 4% in Total Viewers (8.0 million vs. 7.7 million on 9/24/18) and held even among Adults 18-49 (1.0/5). In addition, DWTS” built over the series’ most-recent season finale in November 2018 (7.9 million on 11/19/18), topping every episode of the prior season in Viewers.



·       ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” opened as Monday’s No. 1 TV series in Total Viewers (8.0 million), Adults 18-34 and across all key Women demos.



·       “DWTS” defeated NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” finale head-to-head from 8:00-10:00 p.m. by 2.6 million viewers (5.4 million). Also in the 2-hour slot, “Dancing with the Stars” towered over Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” finale (1.9 million and 0.4/2).

ABC News’ “Your Voice, Your Vote 2020 – The Democratic Debate” (8:00-11:00 p.m.)
ABC, with coverage of the ABC News “Your Voice, Your Vote 2020 – The Democratic Debate,” drew 12.93 million Total Viewers, 2.1 rating in Adults 18-49 and a 2.9 rating in Adults 25-54, based on Nielsen’s “Fast National” ratings. Moderated by George Stephanopoulos, David Muir, Linsey Davis and Univision’s Jorge Ramos, the Democratic Debate special ranked as the No. 1 non-sports program among Total Viewers, Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 on Thursday evening

  • The ABC News debate delivered the network’s best performance in the time slot with non-sports programming in nearly 7 years in Total Viewers, over 2 ½ years in Adults 18-49 and more than 3 ½ years in Adults 25-54 – since 11/1/12, 1/26/17 and 12/31/15, respectively. 



  • The ABC News debate (12.93 million Total Viewers and 2.9 Adults 25-54 rtg) outperformed both nights of the debates in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54, respectively, on NBC (8.68 million and 2.2 Adults 25-54 rtg, on 6/26/19; 10.58 million and 2.7 Adults 25-54 rtg on 6/27/19) and CNN (8.69 million and 2.1 Adults 25-54 rtg on 7/30/19; 10.77 million and 2.5 Adults 25-54 rtg on 7/31/19).

  • Airing on both ABC (12.93 million, 2.1 Adults 18-49 rtg and 2.9 Adults 25-54 rtg, respectively) and Univision (1.11 million, 0.3 Adults 18-49 rtg and 0.4 Adults 25-54 rtg, respectively), the Democratic debate totaled 14.04 million Total Viewers, 2.4 Adults 18-49 rtg and 3.3 Adults 25-54 rtg, respectively.



  • The ABC News debate increased by 61% in Total Viewers, 62% in Adults 18-49 and 71% in Adults 25-54 compared to the ABC News Democratic debate four years ago (8.03 million, 1.3 Adults 18-49 rtg and 1.7 Adults 25-54 rtg, respectively, on 12/19/15).

  • The Democratic debate airing on Univision (1.11 million Total Viewers and 0.4 Adults 25-54 rtg) outperformed both nights of the debates in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54, respectively, on Telemundo (719,000 and 0.3 Adults 25-54 rtg, on 6/26/19; 838,000 and 0.3 Adults 25-54 rtg on 6/27/19).



Digital Highlights

The debate marked another milestone for ABC News Live, the network’s 24/7 breaking news and live events streaming channel. 

  • ABC News’ Democratic Debate coverage drew 2.9 million unique visitors and 11 million video views (ABC News Live and VOD) across ABC News’ digital properties and distributed partners, including Facebook Live, Twitter, Apple News, YouTube, Hulu and Hotstar. In fact, the 2019 debate ranked as the No. 1 political event that ABC News has live streamed on YouTube in 2019 and the most concurrently viewed ABC News political live stream on YouTube ever.



  • Univision News’ stream of the LIVE debate on Facebook reached over 21 million users and generated more than 5 million videos views.

ABC ranked No. 1 on Monday night among Adults 18-49, dominating runner-up NBC by 50% (1.2/5 vs. 0.8/4) and standing as the No. 1 broadcast network on the night for the 14th consecutive week – since 6/10/19. ABC shot up over the prior week by 29% in Total Viewers (4.4 million vs. 3.4 million) and by 50% in Adults 18-49 (1.2/5 vs. 0.8/4) to deliver 6-week highs on the night – since 7/29/19.



·       “Bachelor in Paradise” scored new season highs, spiking week to week by 33% in Total Viewers (5.3 million vs. 4.0 million) and by 27% with Adults 18-49 (1.4/7 vs. 1.1/5).



·       ABC’s “BIP” stood as Monday’s No. 1 TV show with Adults 18-49 (1.4/7), towering over NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” head-to-head from 8:00-10:00 p.m. by 56% (0.9/4) and ranking as the night’s highest-rated series on each of 6 telecasts this summer. In addition, the ABC unscripted series was the night’s most-watched program (5.3 million).

ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in Adults 25-54 (339,000) and Adults 18-49 (262,000) for the 4th time in the last 5 weeks, during the week of Aug. 26, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

For the 2nd week in a row, “Nightline” was up week to week (w/o 8/19/19) in Adults 18-49 (+3% – 262,000 vs. 255,000).

Season to date, “Nightline” is leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+28,000 – 425,000 vs. 397,000) and Adults 18-49 (+26,000 – 315,000 vs. 289,000).

Stories reported on Nightline last week included a rare tour of Chinese “vocational” centers where Muslim citizens are allegedly held as prisoners, the Amazon rainforest fire, the rising health risks and effects of vaping on young people and conservation efforts in the Galapagos Islands as tourism in the area rises.

NOTE: Due to Labor Day Friday (8/30/19), “Nightline” was retitled to “NL.” In addition, for the week, CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” were retitled due to being encore telecasts. ABC’s College Football Coverage Claims the Week’s Top 2 Programs

During the week of Aug. 26, 2019, ABC snapped NBC’s 10-week winning streak with a first-place finish in Total Viewers (+9% – 3.7 million vs. 3.4 million). In addition, ABC was No. 1 during the week among Adults 18-49 (0.9/5), dominating runner-up NBC by 50% (0.6/3), CBS by 80% (0.5/3) and Fox by 125% (0.4/2). In fact, ABC ranked No. 1 in 6 of the last 7 weeks and in 10 of the 14 weeks so far this summer among Adults 18-49, posting the most No. 1 finishes of any broadcast network.

ABC soared over the prior week (2.8 million and 0.6/3 on w/o 8/19/19) by 32% in Total Viewers and by 50% among Adults 18-49 to 11-week highs—since the week of 6/10/19.

Rankings: ABC delivered a network-leading 4 of the Top 5 shows in Adults 18-49, including the week’s Top 2 programs with college football coverage: “Saturday Night Football”—No. 1 (1.9/11), “Sunday Night Kickoff”—No. 2 (1.5/9), “Bachelor in Paradise-MON”—No. 4 (1.2/6) and “Bachelor in Paradise-TUE”—No. 5 (1.1/6). In addition, ABC’s Saturday (No. 3) and Sunday (No. 5) college football games placed among the week’s Top 5 most-watched TV programs.
