[via press release from Disney Channel] 'DESCENDANTS 3' SONG 'QUEEN OF MEAN' GOES VIRAL, MUSIC VIDEO SURPASSES 100 MILLION VIEWS IN JUST FOUR WEEKS

'Night Falls' Climbing, Reached #2 on VEVO in the U.S.

Disney Channel's "Queen of Mean" from the triumphant hit movie "Descendants 3" surpassed 100 million views in just four weeks since its release and hit #1 on the YouTube Music Video chart (U.S.) and #1 on Vevo's 50 Top Trending Videos. Last week, the song rose to #5 on the Spotify Global Viral Charts after reaching #49 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Disney Channel Original Movie premiered Aug. 2 and has since debuted in Latin America and Southeast Asia markets and will premiere in Europe beginning next month.

Performed by Sarah Jeffery as Princess Audrey, "Queen of Mean" was written by Antonina Armato, Tim James, Thomas Sturges and Adam Schmalholz, and produced by Armato and James of Rock Mafia.

The same songwriters and producers delivered the movie's other hit "Night Falls" which this week reached #2 on VEVO's Top 20 Music Videos (U.S.) and has amassed 74 million views on YouTube. It's performed by Dove Cameron as Mal, Sofia Carson as Evie, China Anne McClain as Uma, Cameron Boyce as Carlos, Booboo Stewart as Jay, Thomas Doherty as Harry and Dylan Playfair as Gil.

Steven Vincent said, "These two contemporary songs - one rap-driven pop and the other hip-hop with a rock edge - are relatable to our young audience and advanced the movie's story brilliantly, a testament to the talent of our songwriters, producers and performers."

In its fourth week of release by Walt Disney Records, the "Descendants 3" soundtrack is #1 on the Billboard Soundtrack chart, #1 on the Children's Album Chart and #24 on the Billboard Top 200. Its seven music videos have more than 285 million YouTube views to date on the DisneyMusicVevo channel.

"Descendants 3" was directed by Emmy(R) and DGA Award winner Kenny Ortega and written by WGA Award winners Sara Parriott and Josann McGibbon. Emmy nominee David Lawrence is the composer.

Kenny Ortega said, "Our screenwriters Sara and Josann created a story arc for Audrey and the Villain Kids that hits home the idea that we all have the potential for good and bad in us. I believe it's about the choices we make that determine who we become, not necessarily the places we come from. Our songwriters wrote a soundtrack of great songs that once again has helped excitedly drive our story and characters forward. When Sarah Jeffrey sang the first verse of Queen of Mean in her recording session, we all knew Sarah was going to own this song!" Ortega continued, "Night Falls' was our most complex and ambitious musical number. Choreography, stunts, swordplay and visual effects demanded so much from our cast and our knights' ensemble. It all came together in this exciting piece. I'm so proud of them all. The fans love and response to this number and to our entire soundtrack has been gratifying for all of us."

Starring are: Cozi Zuehlsdorff (“Dolphin Tale”) and Heidi Blickenstaff (“The Little Mermaid” and “Something Rotten!” on Broadway, and the stage production of “Freaky Friday”), Ricky He, Alex Désert (Disney Channel’s “Let it Shine”), Jason Maybaum (Disney Channel’s “Raven’s Home”), Kahyun Kim (Disney Channel’s “Austin & Ally”), Dara Renee’, Jennifer Laporte, Isaiah Lehtinen, Sarah Willey (also known as Marlowe Percival), Rukiya Bernard and Joshua Pak.

The executive producers are Steve Carr, Susan Cartsonis (“Deidra & Laney Rob a Train,” “What Women Want”) and Thomas Schumacher, president and producer, Disney Theatrical Productions (“The Lion King,” “Aladdin” and “Frozen” on Broadway).

Emmy nominee David Lawrence (“Descendants,” “High School Musical”) composed the score. Perry Andelin Blake (“Middle School – the Worst Years of My Life,” “The Wedding Singer”) is the production designer. Academy Award winner Angus Strathie (“Moulin Rouge!,” “Deadpool”) is the costume designer.

To date, “Descendants 2” has reached over 26 million Total Viewers on linear television alone, including 10 million Kids 2-14 and 9 million Adults 18-49, and added nearly 4 million engagements across Disney Channel VOD and the Disney Channel App.

“Descendants 2” increases Disney Channel’s historical record to seven of the Top 8 original cable TV movies ever (“High School Musical 2,” “Teen Beach Movie,” “Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie,” “Descendants,” “Descendants 2,” “Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension” and “Camp Rock”). “Descendants 2” also continued Disney Channel’s history of significant co-viewing, joining “Descendants” as the Top 2 cable TV movies in nearly five years among Adults 18-49 – since Lifetime’s “Steel Magnolias” remake on October 7, 2012.

This movie’s strong linear TV performance also gives Disney Channel the Top 11 rated cable TV telecasts in nearly five years in Kids 2-11, the Top 7 in Kids 6-11 and the Top 4 most watched kids cable TV telecasts in Total Viewers – since December 2012 and November 2012, respectively.
For Live + 7 versus Live + Same Day ratings, “Descendants 2” was the biggest cable gainer in well over a year in Total Viewers (+104% – 10.869 million vs. 5.326 million) – since “Game of Thrones” in March 2016 – and boasted double-to-triple digit percent increases across target Kids 2-11 (+131% – 5.166 million vs. 2.232 million), Kids 6-11 (+122% – 3.916 million vs. 1.766 million), Tweens 9-14 (+87% – 3.498 million vs. 1.875 million) and by +96% in Adults 18-49 (+96% – 3.001 million vs. 1.534 million).

Outside the U.S., the sequel is on course to repeat the success of the first “Descendants.” The premiere of “Descendants 2” on Disney Channel Canada (July 21) ranked as the #1 program of the night across all Canadian English Specialty channels in Total Viewers and target Kids 2-11, Kids 6-11, Tweens 9-14 and Adults 25-54 demographics. It also became Disney Channel Canada’s highest-rated telecast since its September 2015 launch in the demographics. For its July 28 Australian premiere, “Descendants 2” was the #1 show for the day across all channels (STV+FTA) among Kids 5-15 and the #1 show on STV in Total Viewers.

The movie hit #1 on the iTunes TV Top Seasons chart.
