Opposite the start of “Thursday Night Football” on NBC (Cowboys-Redskins) from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ABC’s annual encore of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” took 2nd among entertainment programming in the hour with Total Viewers (6.5 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.6/6) to CBS’ top-rated comedies (“The Big Bang Theory” and “Young Sheldon”) and doubled Fox’s “Gotham” in the hour with young adults (+100% – 1.6/6 vs. 0.8/3).     

  • “A Charlie Brown Christmas” grew year over year in Total Viewers (+2%) and Adults 18-49 (+7%).



“WWOD: Magical Holiday Celebration” (9:00-11:00 p.m. – 5.0 million and 1.2/4 in AD18-49):
From 9:00-11:00 p.m. against the NFL game, ABC’s special “The Wonderful World of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration” grew over its year-ago Thursday night telecast (on 11/24/16 from 8:00-10:00 p.m.) by 20% in Adults 18-49 (1.2/4 vs. 1.0/4). In fact, “WWOD: Magical Holiday Celebration” made ABC the No. 1 non-sports network in the 2-hour slotamong the key young adult sales demo by 9% over runner-up CBS (1.2/4 vs. 1.1/4).

  • In viewers and young adults, “WWOD: Magical Holiday Celebration” delivered 8-week highs to the 2-hour time period – since 9/28/17.

ABC’s “The View” delivered 2.985 million Total Viewers, 510,000 Women 25-54 and 337,000 Women 18-49 during the 2017 November Sweep, based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research. “The View” beat CBS’ “The Talk” (2.642 million, 405,000 and 278,000, respectively) during the month across the board: Total Viewers (+343,000), Women 25-54 (+105,000) and Women 18-49 (+59,000). 
                           
“The View” posted its largest sweeps margins over the CBS program in over 3 years in Total Viewers and in more than 4 years in Women 25-54 – since May 2014 and February 2013, respectively. In addition, “The View” led “The Talk” by its largest November sweep advantages in Total Viewers and Women 25-54 in 5 years – since November 2012.
“The View” saw double-digit increases versus the previous sweep (2.526 million, 419,000 and 306,000, respectively, for July 2017) in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+18%), Women 25-54 (+22%) and Women 18-49 (+10%).

ABC News’ “Nightline” averaged 1.432 million Total Viewers, 527,000 Adults 25-54 and 396,000 Adults 18-49, during the November 2017 Sweep, based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research. For the 3rd year in a row, “Nightline” led CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (522,000 and 391,000, respectively) during November in Adults 25-54 (+5,000) and Adults 18-49 (+5,000).  

“Nightline” saw double-digit gains from the previous sweep (1.205 million, 460,000, and 337,000 for July 2017) in Total Viewer (+19%), Adults 25-54 (+15%) and Adults 18-49 (+18%).

“Nightline” cut its margins with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” from the year-ago sweep (November 2016) in Adults 25-54 (-1% – 91,000 vs. 92,000) and Adults 18-49 (-12% – 102,000 vs. 116,000), posting its closest performances during the month in both key Adults demos in 3 years – since November 2014.

ABC News’ “Nightline” is anchored by Dan Harris, Juju Chang and Byron Pitts. Steven Baker is executive producer. The program airs weeknights from 12:35-1:05 a.m. EST on The ABC Television Network. Together with “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Nightline” is part of ABC’s winning late-night strategy of airing news and entertainment programming.

From 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC’s annual broadcast of “CMA Country Christmas” took 2nd place and surged over its year-ago telecast(on 11/28/16) by 19% in Total Viewers (8.2 million vs. 6.9 million) and by 20% in Adults 18-49 (1.2/4 vs. 1.0/3) to earn 3-year highson both measures – best since 12/1/14.

“The Good Doctor” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 9.5 million and 1.8/7 in AD18-49):
Shooting up from its lead-in at 10:00 p.m. (+16%/+50%), ABC’s “The Good Doctor” dominated NBC’s special “A Very Pentatonix Christmas” in the hour by 64% in Total Viewers (9.5 million vs. 5.8 million) and by 50% in Adults 18-49 (1.8/7 vs. 1.2/5). “The Good Doctor” has delivered the Top 6 biggest Live + 7 Day lifts for any show this season in Total Viewers, adding +7.3 million viewers on average from L+SD to L+7.
  • Season to date in Nielsen’s Most Current data stream (includes available TV Playback), ABC’s “The Good Doctor” is TV’s most watched drama(over CBS’ “NCIS” and NBC’s “This Is Us”) as well as the season’s No. 1 10 o’clock series in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49. “The Good Doctor” is delivering triple-digit time period improvementyear to year for ABC on Monday at 10:00 p.m. in Total Viewers (+164%) and Adults 18-49 (+200%), representing the largest increases for any network in any hour this season.

  • Highest-Rated TV Series in November: ABC delivered 7 of the Top 20 entertainment broadcast series during November with Adults 18-49, tied with CBS as the most for any net:  “The Good Doctor” (1.9/7) and “Grey’s Anatomy” (1.9/7) tied at No. 4, “Modern Family” (1.6/6) – No. 9, “DWTS” (1.4/5) and “The Goldbergs” (1.4/5) tied at No. 13, while “The Middle” (1.3/5) and “American Housewife” (1.3/4) tied at No. 17. ABC Tuesday Prime (8:00-11:00 p.m. – 7.8 million and 1.3/5 in AD18-49):
Featuring the Season 25 finale of “Dancing with the Stars,” ABC ran a strong No. 2 on Tuesday among Adults 18-49 (1.3/5) to NBC, beating CBS’ dramas by 18% (1.1/4) and Fox by 63% (0.8/3). ABC surged to Tuesday season highs in viewers and young adults.
  • From 8:00-9:00 p.m., ABC delivered Tuesday’s Top 2 comedies with “The Middle” (6.0 million and 1.3/6) and “Fresh Off the Boat” (4.3 million and 1.1/4) topping by wide margins Fox’s “The Mick” (2.2 million and 0.7/3) and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (1.7 million and 0.6/2) at 9:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., respectively. With both comedies climbing for the 3rd straight week in viewers, “The Middle” grew 5% and “Fresh Off the Boat” gained 10%, as each ABC comedy delivered a best-since-premiere Total Viewer count – since 10/3/17.

  • Leaping over its lead-in against NBC’s “The Voice”-led “This Is Us” at 9:00 p.m., ABC’s 25th season finale of “Dancing with the Stars” delivered 9.2 million viewers and a 1.3/5 in Adults 18-49 to the 2-hour time period. Gaining viewers from its first hour to its second hour, “Dancing” ranked No. 1 in the final hour of the night in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49.  In fact, in its final half-hour from 10:30-11:00 p.m. as Jordan Fisher won the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy, “Dancing” built to 9.5 million viewers. “DWTS” was up from its Season 24 finale (on 5/23/17) in Total Viewers (+3% – 9.2 million vs. 8.9 million) and shot up 29% with Teens 12-17 and 60% with Kids 2-11.

ABC’s “The View” averaged 2.909 million Total Viewers, 489,000 Women 25-54 and 324,000 Women 18-49 during the week of November 13, 2017, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “The View” led CBS’ “The Talk” (2.603 million, 416,000 and 285,000, respectively) during the week in Total Viewers (+306,000), Women 25-54 (+73,000) and Women 18-49 (+39,000).

“The View” increased its lead over CBS’ “The Talk” in Total Viewers both week to week (+13% – 306,000 vs. 271,000) and year to year (+31% – 306,000 vs. 234,000).
Season to date, “The View” leads CBS’ “The Talk” across the board, increasing its advantages from the same point last season in Total Viewers (343,000 vs. 172,000), Women 25-54 (115,000 vs. 44,000) and Women 18-49 (70,000 vs. 60,000). In fact, “The View” is posting its largest season leads over the CBS program in Total Viewers and Women 25-54 in 5 years – since the 2012-13 season.

From 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC’s Monday closer for “Dancing with the Stars” won its 2-hour time period with Total Viewers (10.3 million) and came within a best-of-season 3-tenths of “The Voice” in Adults 18-49 (1.4/5 vs. 1.7/6).  “DWTS” drew its biggest audience and matched its best young adult rating since its season premiere – since 9/18/17.

“The Good Doctor” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 10.3 million and 1.9/7 in AD18-49):

“20/20” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 4.0 million and 0.7/3 in AD18-49):
Surging by double digits over its lead-in on Friday at 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “20/20” shot up week to week in Total Viewers (+82% – 4.0 million vs. 2.2 million), Adults 18-49 (+75% – 0.7/3 vs. 0.4/2) and Adults 25-54 (+67% – 1.0/4 vs. 0.6/2). The ABC newsmagazine delivered its most watched telecast this season and equaled season highs in each of the key Adult demos. “20/20” followed an inspirational family as they adjust to life with their son’s rare facial condition.

ABC won Saturday night for the 2nd week in a row in Total Viewers (3.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.0/4), more than doubling Fox with its college football coverage (1.6 million and 0.4/2).

Building week to week in Total Viewers (+35% – 3.1 million vs. 2.3 million) and holding even in Adults 18-49 (0.5/2), ABC’s season finale for “The Toy Box” scored its largest audience this season and equaled a season best with young adults. In addition, the ABC unscripted show topped its Season 1 May finale by 29% (2.4 million on 5/19/17) to earn the series’ most watched telecast since April – since 4/21/17.

ABC’s “The View” averaged 2.934 million Total Viewers, 500,000 Women 25-54 and 331,000 Women 18-49 during the week of November 6, 2017, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “The View” led CBS’ “The Talk” (2.663 million, 414,000 and 287,000, respectively) during the week in Total Viewers (+271,000), Women 25-54 (+86,000) and Women 18-49 (+44,000).

“The View” widened its leads over CBS’ “The Talk” year to year in Total Viewers (+14% – 271,000 vs. 237,000) and Women 25-54 (+87% – 86,000 vs. 46,000).

“The View” was up week to week in Total Viewers (+6,000 – 2.934 million vs. 2. 928 million), drawing its largest overall audience in nearly 8 months – since w/o 3/13/17.

Season to date, “The View” leads CBS’ “The Talk” across the board, substantially increasing its advantages from the same point last season in Total Viewers (344,000 vs. 164,000), Women 25-54 (120,000 vs. 33,000) and Women 18-49 (74,000 vs. 51,000). In fact, “The View” is posting its largest season leads over the CBS program in Total Viewers and Women 25-54 in 5 years – since the 2012-13 season.

In addition, “The View” is improving compared to the same point last season in Total Viewers (+21,000 – 2.908 million vs. 2.887 million), posting its largest overall audience in 3 years – since the 2014-15 season.

ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (1.474 million) and Adults 25-54 (557,000), during the week of November 6, 2017, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” outdelivered CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (1.373 million) by 101,000 and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” (1.326 million) by 148,000 to win 6 of the first 7 weeks of the season.

For the 2nd week in a row, “Nightline” saw increases over the previous week (1.367 million, 510,000 and 363,000, respectively, for w/o 10/30/17) in all key target measures: Total Viewers (+8%), Adults 25-54 (+9%) and Adults 18-49 (+17%), hitting 5-week highs in both key adult demos – since w/o 10/2/17.
   
“Nightline” improved on the same week last year (1.387 million, 533,000 and 394,000, respectively, for w/o 10/31/16) in Total Viewers (+6%), Adults 25-54 (+5%) and Adults 18-49 (+8%).

“Nightline” had the No. 1 telecast during the week in Total Viewers (1.664 million), Adults 25-54 (678,000) and Adults 18-49 (539,000) with its Wednesday airing (11/8/17), outdrawing every telecast of the week of CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”  

Season to date, “Nightline” is beating CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Total Viewers (+70,000 – 1.480 million vs. 1.410 million), Adults 25-54 (+44,000 – 549,000 vs. 505,000) and Adults 18-49 (+28,000 – 408,000 vs. 380,000).

Wednesday’s ‘Kimmel’ Is the Week’s No. 1 Late-Night Telecast in Adults 18-49

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” (M-F, 11:35 p.m.)
During the week of November 6, 2017, ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” grew over the prior week by 5% in Total Viewers (2.258 million vs. 2.141 million) and 10% in Adults 18-49 (629,000 vs. 571,000) to 3-week highs – since the week of 10/16/17.

“Kimmel” also improved over the same week last year (2.120 million and 588,000 on w/o 10/31/16) in both Total Viewers (+7%) and Adults 18-49 (+7%).

ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” edged out CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” by 2% in Adults 18-49 (629,000 vs. 615,000).

The Wednesday (11/8/17) broadcast of ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” was the week’s No. 1 late-night telecastin Adults 18-49 (909,000). In addition, excluding the NBA Finals-led broadcasts in June, Wednesday’s “Kimmel” delivered the show’s best performance on any night in late-night in 10 months – since Thursday, 1/5/17. On Wednesday, “Kimmel” welcomed guests Dax Shepard, Jesse Williams and musical guest Luke Combs.

During the week November 6, 2017, ABC shot up 40% to a new season high in Adults 18-49 (1.4/5) and ran a strong 2nd to an NFL-fueled NBC, with its primetime games on Thursday and Sunday. In fact, ABC finished No. 1 for the week in Nielsen’s non-sports averages among Adults 18-49 by 18% over runner-up NBC (1.3/5 vs. 1.1/4).  ABC’s Wednesday broadcast of “The 51st Annual CMA Awards” emerged as the week’s most watched entertainment program overall and top-rated on broadcast with Adults 18-49. In fact with the ‘CMAs’ on Wednesday, ABC delivered the highest Adult 18-49 rating for any network on any night this season with entertainment programming.
  • ABC spiked week to week to season highs in Total Viewers (+38% – 6.2 million vs. 4.5 million) and Adults 18-49 (+40% – 1.4/5 vs. 1.0/4).  And excluding only the weeks of the NBA Finals in June, the Net scored best week since February with the Oscars – since w/o 2/20/17.

On the night when the NFL Thursday Night package shifted over to NBC, ABC’s 300th episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” grew over the prior week by 9% to a season high in Total Viewers (8.1 million vs. 7.4 million), marking the series’ most watched telecast in 9 months – since 2/9/17. In addition, “Grey’s” advanced 6% week to week in Adults 18-49 (1.9/8 vs. 1.8/7). The ABC drama stood as Thursday’s dominant No. 1 TV series in Women 18-34, holding a 25% advantage over runner-up CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” (2.0/10 vs. 1.6/8).
  • Saturday
Featuring college football coverage (Notre Dame at Miami), ABC ranked No. 1 on Saturday night in Total Viewers (6.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.0/9), beating the other networks combined by 18% in the latter measure (1.7/7 for CBS, NBC and Fox). The Net dominated Fox with its college football coverage (3.0 million and 0.8/3 from 8:00-11:00 p.m.) by 3.8 million viewers and 150% with Adults 18-49. ABC delivered its 2nd-best performance on the night this season in Viewers and young adults.
  • Airing from 8:07-11:40 p.m., ABC’s “Saturday Night Football” was the evening’s No. 1 program in Total Viewers (6.7 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.1/9).

  • Growing over the prior week’s game (3.0 million and 0.9/4) by triple digits in Total Viewers (+123%) and Adults 18-49 (+133%), “Saturday Night Football” drew its largest audience in 3 weeks and matched a 9-week high with young adults  – since 10/21/17 and 9/9/17, respectively

ABC’s “The View” averaged 2.928 million Total Viewers, 505,000 Women 25-54 and 336,000 Women 18-49 during the week of October 30, 2017, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “The View” led CBS’ “The Talk” (2.602 million, 387,000 and 265,000, respectively) during the week in Total Viewers (+326,000), Women 25-54 (+118,000) and Women 18-49 (+71,000).

“The View” widened its leads over CBS’ “The Talk” year to year in Total Viewers (+98% – 326,000 vs. 165,000) and Women 25-54 (+123% – 118,000 vs. 53,000).

For the 2nd week in a row, “The View” was up compared to the year-ago week (w/o 10/24/16) in Total Viewers (+2% – 2.928 million vs. 2.870 million).

Season to date, “The View” leads CBS’ “The Talk” across the board, substantially increasing its advantages from the same point last season in Total Viewers (347,000 vs. 151,000), Women 25-54 (125,000 vs. 31,000) and Women 18-49 (80,000 vs. 45,000). In fact, “The View” is posting its largest season leads over the CBS program in Total Viewers and Women 25-54 in 5 years – since the 2012-13 season.

In addition, “The View” is improving compared to the same point last season in Total Viewers (+19,000 – 2.886 million vs. 2.867 million), posting its largest overall audience in 3 years – since the 2014-15 season.

ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (1.367 million) during the week of October 30, 2017, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.  Winning 5 of the first 6 weeks of the 2017-18 season, “Nightline” beat CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (1.323 million) by 44,000 and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” (1.366 million) by 1,000.
“Nightline” also defeated CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+41,000 – 510,000 vs. 469,000) and Adults 18-49 (+19,000 – 363,000 vs. 344,000).
“Nightline” improved on the previous week (1.238 million, 475,000 and 338,000, respectively, for w/o 10/23/17) in Total Viewers (+10%), Adults 25-54 (+7%) and Adults 18-49 (+7%).
   
“Nightline” cut its gaps from the previous week with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in Adults 25-54 (-53% – 35,000 vs. 74,000) and Adults 18-49 (-3% – 86,000 vs. 89,000).
          
“Nightline” narrowed its year-to-year margins with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in Adults 25-54 (-62% – 35,000 vs. 92,000) and Adults 18-49 (-36% – 86,000 vs. 135,000).
“Nightline” had the No. 1 telecast during the week in Total Viewers (1.681 million) with its Monday airing (10/30/17), outdrawing every telecast of the week of CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”  

Season to date, “Nightline” is beating CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Total Viewers (+70,000 – 1.473 million vs. 1.403 million), Adults 25-54 (+40,000 – 545,000 vs. 505,000) and Adults 18-49 (+21,000 – 403,000 vs. 382,000).

Stories on “Nightline” last week included an inside look at the lives of Harry, Nicole and Matt, three students at Rockdale Recovery High where the school’s main entrance requirement is the student must be an addict; an in-depth report on the Manhattan attack which left eight people dead after a man mowed down pedestrians and cyclists with a truck; a behind-the-scenes tour of “Wheel of Fortune” host Vanna White’s life as she opens up about her 35 years on the show, Pat Sajak and loving her job; and a sit-down with Justin Beiber’s pastor Carl Lentz about his new book “Own the Moment.”

NOTE:  On Wednesday (11/1/17), NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” was retitled to “Late Night with Seth Meyers-SM.” The telecast is excluded from the season averages. NBC’s averages are based on 4 days (Monday-Tuesday and Thursday-Friday).

ABC News’ “Nightline” is anchored by Dan Harris, Juju Chang and Byron Pitts. Steven Baker is executive producer. The program airs weeknights, from 12:35-1:05 a.m. EST, on The ABC Television Network. Together with “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Nightline” is part of ABC’s winning late-night strategy of airing news and entertainment programming.

For the week of October 30, 2017, ABC’s "The Chew" outdelivered CBS’ “The Talk” for the 21st consecutive week in Women 18-49(+12% – 297,000/0.5 rating vs. 265,000/0.4 rating) and also beat the competing talk show for the 13th straight week in Women 25-54(+10% – 425,000/0.7 rating vs. 387,000/0.6 rating) – dates back to weeks of 6/12/17 and 8/7/17, respectively. Moreover, "The Chew" grew for the 2nd week in a row for 3-week highs in key target Women 18-49(+6% – 297,000 vs. 284,000) – dates back to week of 10/9/17.

ABC Monday Prime (8:00-11:00 p.m. – 8.6 million and 1.2/5 in AD18-49):
Featuring “DWTS” and Robin Roberts’ CMA Special (ahead of ABC’s “CMA Awards” broadcast this Wednesday) preempting “The Good Doctor” for one week, ABC stood as Monday’s most watched broadcast network for the 6th consecutive week (8.6 million) and took second with Adults 18-49 (1.2/5). In fact, ABC was the lead broadcaster in all 6 half-hours of the night with viewers.  ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” finished as Monday’s most watched TV seriesoverall, outdrawing NBC’s “The Voice” for the 2nd week in a row.

Please note: ABC’s Monday lineup was preempted in Detroit and Milwaukee for local NFL coverage (2.361% U.S.).

“Dancing with the Stars” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 9.9 million and 1.4/5 in AD18-49):
From 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” was the most watched show (9.9 million) in its slot for the 2nd week running and came within a best-of-season half a rating point of “The Voice” in Adults 18-49 (1.4/5 vs. 1.9/7), equaling its narrowest margin this season set the prior week.  “Dancing” held even week to week with viewers and young adults.

“Living Every Day: Luke Bryan” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 6.0 million and 1.0/4 in AD18-49):
At 10:00 p.m., ABC’s Robin Roberts’ CMA special “Living Every Day: Luke Bryan” ranked No. 1 in its hour with Total Viewers (6.0 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.0/4-tie). “Living Every Day: Luke Bryan” grew by double digits from last year’s comparable Monday special(4.5 million and 0.7/2 on 10/31/16) with Total Viewers (+33%) and Adults 18-49 (+43%).

“HTGAWM”: L3 = 5.7 million/1.7 rating, L7 = 6.2 million/1.9 rating and MP+35 = 2.3 rating

Live + Same Day Results:
ABC Thursday Prime (8:00-11:00 p.m. – 5.3 million and 1.3/5 in AD18-49):
Opposite CBS’ premiere of its “The Big Bang Theory”/”Young Sheldon”-led schedule on the night, ABC’s TGIT lineup earned second place on Thursday with Adults 18-49 (1.3/5), beating NBC by 30%(1.0/4), with a series low for the “Will & Grace” finale, and Fox’s drama lineup by 44% (“Gotham”/”The Orville” = 0.9/4). 
  • Despite the increased entertainment competition, ABC’s Thursday delivery held exactly even week to week in Adults 18-49, as did “Grey’s Anatomy” (1.8/7), “Scandal” (1.1/4) and “How to Get Away with Murder” (0.9/4).
