Seven-Episode, Behind-the-Scenes Series Adds to Programming Lineup For Hockey Fans
Quest for the Stanley Cup(TM), the behind-the-scenes documentary series chronicling the eight teams in the midst of the 2018 Stanley Cup(R) Playoffs, will premiere on Friday, May 4, exclusively on ESPN+ in the U.S. The series will go on the ice, in locker rooms, inside the minds of the players and coaches and everywhere in between to give viewers an all-access pass during the high-stakes Stanley Cup(R) Playoffs and the pursuit of the Stanley Cup(R) - often seen as the hardest trophy to win in professional sports.
The weekly series will be produced by Ross Greenburg Productions in association with NHL Original Productions, under the direction of 53-time Sports Emmy(R) Award winning producer Ross Greenburg, who pioneered the sports documentary series genre. Emmy and Tony Award-nominated actor Bill Camp will narrate the series.
ESPN+ subscribers will have access to the entire series as part of a robust programming lineup for hockey fans throughout the Playoffs, with new episodes available each Friday afternoon starting this week.
In episode one, Vegas Golden Knights forward James Neal leads a tour of Las Vegas, discusses the special connection the team has made with the community and the city's transformation into a hockey town. Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik meets with passionate season ticket holders before Game 1 of the Round Two series versus the Boston Bruins. Nashville Predators forward Ryan Johansen takes viewers into his home with his fiancé. The episode also will feature exclusive mic'd up player content and on-the-ice action from each series in Round Two - Golden Knights-San Jose Sharks, Lightning-Boston Bruins, Washington Capitals-Pittsburgh Penguins and Predators-Winnipeg Jets.
"Quest For The Stanley Cup shows how important the postseason is for players, coaches and their families," said NHL Chief Content Officer and Executive Vice President Steve Mayer. "This year, by starting with Round Two of the Playoffs, we're bringing fans into more locker rooms, arenas and homes while capturing the growing intensity for the players and coaches on the ice. This series continues to break new ground in access and storytelling."
Added Burke Magnus, Executive Vice President, Programming, ESPN, "Adding further to a great lineup of programming for hockey fans by taking them further inside the excitement of the Stanley Cup Playoffs with an acclaimed docuseries is an example of what fans can expect from ESPN+. Its more sports, more games, more shows and more access."
In addition to Quest for the Stanley Cup, ESPN+ is providing NHL fans a chance to catch up on any of the action they missed from previous games or series with on-demand replays of every NHL(R) game throughout the 2018 Stanley Cup(R) Playoffs. Games are available on demand via ESPN+ after their live airing and remain available throughout the Playoffs. ESPN+ is also the exclusive home to In the Crease, a new nightly hockey show, co-hosted by ESPN's Linda Cohn and Barry Melrose. Each night of the Playoffs, In the Crease brings viewers comprehensive highlights and analysis of each game, plus interviews with top players and coaches from around the league, ESPN.com NHL writers, and guest appearances from SportsCenter anchors Steve Levy and John Buccigross.
