HULU LANDS RECORD 27 PRIMETIME EMMY® AWARD NOMINATIONS


Hulu Sees Biggest Year-Over-Year Lift in Emmy Nominations Among Top Networks

Premium Streaming Service Nearly Doubles Nominations for Emmy and Golden Globe-winning Drama The Handmaid’s Tale, and receives first-time nominations for New Series The Looming Tower and I Love You, America, as well as Hulu Documentary March of The Penguins 2: The Next Step

SANTA MONICA, CA – July 12, 2018  – This morning, at the 70th Annual Primetime Emmy® Award nominations ceremony, the Television Academy announced that Hulu and its content creators received a total of 27 Emmy Award nominations. After becoming the first streaming service to win a Primetime Emmy in the Outstanding Drama Series category, Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale nabbed a total of 20 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and all major acting categories - making it one of the most Emmy-nominated programs of the year and the most Emmy-nominated program on a streaming service. Hulu also received first-time nominations for its Limited Series The Looming Tower, Variety Sketch Series I Love You, America, and Hulu Documentary March of The Penguins 2: The Next Step.

Today’s nominations further reinforce Hulu as home to virtually all of the great television being made today. In addition to the nominations received for its original programming, Hulu is the only place where viewers can watch full seasons of nearly all (80%) of this year’s Emmy-nominated programming, including the complete libraries of This Is Us, Atlanta, Black-ish, Will & Grace, Bob’s Burgers, South Park, and Saturday Night Live, as well as premium cable hits Game of Thrones, Westworld, Silicon Valley, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Twin Peaks, Patrick Melrose, Shameless and Barry through its partnerships with HBO and Showtime.

At last year’s awards ceremony, Hulu received its first-ever Primetime Emmy Award for The Handmaid’s Tale and its first documentary, The Beatles: Eight Days A Week – The Touring Years. The streaming service took home 10 Emmy Awards in total, and became the first streaming service take home an award in the Outstanding Drama Series category. This year, Hulu saw the biggest gains among top networks in Emmy Award nominations, with an increase of 50% year-over-year.
