Season to Date, ‘The View’ Leads ‘The Talk’ in All Key Target Demos Increasing Its Total Viewer Lead Over the CBS Program Compared to Last Season to Its Largest in 6 Years
ABC’s “The View” averaged 2.842 million Total Viewers, 443,000 Women 25-54 and 310,000 Women 18-49, during the week of Nov. 19, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.  
“The View” outdelivered CBS’ “The Talk” (2.328 million, 382,000 and 251,000, respectively) during the week in Total Viewers (+514,000), Women 25-54 (+61,000) and Women 18-49 (+59,000). “The View” increased its Total Viewer lead over “The Talk” both week to week (+6% – 514,000 vs. 486,000 for w/o 11/12/18) and year to year (+42% – 514,000 vs. 362,000 for w/o 11/20/17). 
Season to date, “The View” leads CBS’ “The Talk” across the board: Total Viewers (+553,000 – 2.873 million vs. 2.320 million), Women 25-54 (+88,000 – 460,000 vs. 372,000) and Women 18-49 (+54,000 – 323,000 vs. 269,000). In fact, “The View” is increasing its Total Viewer lead over “The Talk” compared to last season (+59% – 553,000 vs. 347,000) to its largest in 6 years – since the 2012-13 season.
NOTE: With Thanksgiving week, “The View” was retitled “View” on Thursday and Friday, and each telecast was excluded from the weekly averages. “The Talk” was preempted on Thursday for NFL and on Friday for college football. ABC’s and CBS’ weekly averages are based on three days (Monday–Wednesday).

Marking Its Most-Watched Telecast Since Late October

“A Million Little Things” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 3.5 million and 0.8/4 in AD18-49):
Wednesday’s top broadcast program in delayed viewing this season, ABC’s “A Million Little Things” returned after 2 weeks of preemptions at 10 o’clock (for the “CMAs” and Thanksgiving Eve), improving over 3-weeks ago by 6% in Total Viewers (3.5 million vs. 3.3 million) and by 14% Adults 18-49 (0.8/4 vs. 0.7/3) to deliver its most-watched telecast since the end of October – since 10/24/18.

  • The new ABC drama improved its hour year to year by 14% in Adults 18-49, rising over the year-ago “Designated Survivor” (0.7/3 on 11/29/17).



  • Live + 7 Day Ratings: “A Million Little Things” has posted triple-digit L+7 increases on each of the series’ 6 telecasts among Adults 18-49, and on its last telecast (on 11/7/18) scored its best yet spike with a massive +157% jump over its L+SD rating. The new ABC drama also delivered its biggest Total Viewer lift on its most-recent airing, with a +107% jump from L+SD to L+7.

 ‘The View’ Outdelivers ‘The Talk’ In All Key Target Demos and Posts Its Largest Total Viewer Lead Over the CBS Program During a November Sweep in 6 Years and During Any Sweep in More Than 4 Years 

ABC’s “The View” delivered 2.878 million Total Viewers, 467,000 Women 25-54 and 331,000 Women 18-49 during the 2018 November Sweep, based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research. “The View” saw double-digit increases versus the previous sweep (2.572 million, 421,000 and 288,000, respectively, for July 2018) in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+12%), Women 25-54 (+11%) and Women 18-49 (+15%).   

“The View” beat CBS’ “The Talk” (2.343 million, 381,000 and 271,000, respectively) during the month across the board: Total Viewers (+535,000), Women 25-54 (+86,000) and Women 18-49 (+60,000).  

“The View” posted its largest Total Viewer lead over the CBS program during a November sweep in 6 years and during any sweep in more than 4 years – since November 2012 and May 2014, respectively.

as ‘The Conners’ Leads Off With a 4-Week High in Viewers

ABC Tuesday Prime Time (8:00-11:00 p.m. – 4.5 million and 0.9/4 in AD18-49):
Facing competition from NBC’s fall finales for “This Is Us” and “New Amsterdam” on the night, each of ABC’s Tuesday series posted week-to-week improvement with Total Viewers and/or Adults 18-49.

  • At 8:00 p.m., ABC’s “The Conners” rose 6% week to week in Total Viewers (7.3 million vs. 6.9 million) and held even with Adults 18-49 (1.4/6), marking its most-watched telecast in 4 weeks – since 10/30/18.



  • At 8:30 p.m., ABC freshman comedy “The Kids Are Alright” grew 12% week to week in Total Viewers (4.7 million vs. 4.2 million) and held even with Adults 18-49 (0.9/4), drawing its biggest audience in 4 weeks – since 10/30/18.

  • At 9:00 p.m. opposite the start of “This Is Us,” ABC’s “black-ish” improved 13% week to week in Adults 18-49 (0.9/3 vs. 0.8/3).



  • At 9:30 p.m., ABC sophomore comedy “Splitting Up Together” increased week to week by 4% in Total Viewers (2.8 million vs. 2.7 million) and by 17% in Adults 18-49 (0.7/3 vs. 0.6/3).

  • Building on its lead-in by 1.5 million viewers and 14% with young adults at 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “The Rookie” grew for the 2nd straight week in Total Viewers (+5% – 4.3 million vs. 4.1 million) and jumped 14% in Adults 18-49 (0.8/3 vs. 0.7/3), posting its best numbers in 1 month – since 10/30/18.

‘Nightline’ Delivers Its Closest Adults 18-49 Performance Ever for November and Cuts Its Margins in Both Adult Demos From the Year-Ago Sweep Over NBC’s ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’

ABC News’ “Nightline” averaged 1.348 million Total Viewers, 466,000 Adults 25-54 and 342,000 Adults 18-49, during the November 2018 Sweep, based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” beat CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (421,000 and 311,000, respectively) during November in Adults 25-54 (+45,000) and Adults 18-49 (+31,000).  

“Nightline” saw double-digit gains from the previous sweep (1.189 million, 419,000, and 306,000 for July 2018) in Total Viewer (+13%), Adults 25-54 (+11%) and Adults 18-49 (+12%).

“Nightline” narrowed its gaps with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” from the previous sweep (July 2018) across the board: Total Viewers (-30% – 148,000 vs. 210,000) Adults 25-54 (-28% – 78,000 vs. 109,000) and Adults 18-49 (-32% – 57,000 vs. 84,000), posting its closest Adults 18-49 performance during any sweep in more than 3 years – since May 2015.

“Nightline” cut its margins with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” from the year-ago sweep (November 2017) in Adults 25-54 (-15% – 78,000 vs. 92,000) and Adults 18-49 (-45% – 57,000 vs. 104,000), turning in its closest Adults 18-49 delivery ever during the month versus “Late Night with Seth Meyers” – the two shows first aired head-to-head during the month in November in 2014.

ABC News’ “Nightline” is anchored by Dan Harris, Juju Chang and Byron Pitts. Steven Baker is executive producer. The program airs weeknights, from 12:35-1:05 a.m. EST, on The ABC Television Network. Together with “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” “Nightline” is part of ABC’s winning late-night strategy of airing news and entertainment programming.

Airing from 8:00-10:00 p.m. opposite NBC’s “The Voice,” ABC’s premiere of “The Great Christmas Light Fight” built on its year-ago opener (on 12/4/17) with Total Viewers (+4% – 5.4 million vs. 5.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (+10% – 1.1/4 vs.1.0/4). 

“The Good Doctor” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 7.4 million and 1.2/5 in AD18-49):
ABC’s “The Good Doctor” once again stood as the top TV series at 10:00 p.m., drawing more viewers than NBC’s “Manifest” for the 4th week in a row(7.4 million vs. 6.0 million) and ranking as Monday’s most-watched scripted program. In addition, “The Good Doctor” edged out “Manifest” among Adults 18-49 (1.2/5 vs. 1.1/5). Holding even with last week’s Fast Affiliate ratings, “The Good Doctor” attracted its largest audience this season and scored a best-since-premiere Adult 18-49 rating – since 9/24/18.

ABC’s “The View” averaged 2.860 million Total Viewers, 478,000 Women 25-54 and 335,000 Women 18-49, during the week of Nov. 12, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. For the 4th consecutive week, “The View” improved on the previous week (w/o 11/5/18) in Women 25-54 (+6% – 478,000 vs. 452,000) and Women 18-49 (+5% – 335,000 vs. 320,000), turning in its strongest Women 25-54 performance in 7 months – since w/o 4/16/18.

“The View” outdelivered CBS’ “The Talk” (2.374 million, 381,000 and 284,000, respectively) during the week in Total Viewers (+486,000), Women 25-54 (+97,000) and Women 18-49 (+51,000). “The View” widened its year-to-year leads (w/o 11/13/18) over “The Talk” across the board: Total Viewers (+59% – 486,000 vs. 306,000), Women 25-54 (+33% – 97,000 vs. 73,000) and Women 18-49 (+31% – 51,000 vs. 39,000).

ABC’s ‘The Conners’ Stands as the Season’s No. 1 New Comedy and
Elevates Its Time Period to a 5-Year High With Viewers and Young Adults

“The Conners” (8:00-8:30 p.m. – 6.9 million and 1.4/7 in AD18-49):
Leading off Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m., ABC self-starter “The Conners” won its half-hour by 17% among Adults 18-49 over its nearest competition (1.4/7 vs. 1.2/6 – NBC’s “The Voice” and CBS’ “NCIS” tied). In addition, the ABC freshman comedy qualified as Tuesday’s No. 2 TV showin the key young adult sales demo (tie), behind only NBC’s top-rated “This Is Us.” In fact, “The Conners” came within less than half a rating point of tying “This Is Us” on the night (-0.4 – 1.4/7 vs. 1.8/8).

  • Holding even week to week with 6.9 million viewers, “The Conners” was 1 of only 3 broadcast series not to decline on the pre-holiday Tuesday, also including ABC’s “The Rookie” and The CW’s “Black Lightning.” The ABC comedy held steady with Adults 18-49 (1.4/7 vs. 1.5/7).

  • ABC’sThe Conners” is the season’s No. 1 new comedyin Total Viewers (10.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.6/11).

  • “The Conners” ranks a strong No. 1 in Tuesday’s 8:00 p.m. half-hour this season with Adults 18-49, dominating runners-up CBS’ “NCIS” and NBC’s “The Voice” by 37% each.



  • “The Conners” is generating enormous time-period improvement for ABC in the half-hour over the comparable weeks of Fall 2017, elevating the slot by 49% in Total Viewers and 37% in Adults 18-49. In fact, through the first 8 weeks of the season, “The Conners” stands as ABC’s top performer in the slot in 5 years in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 – since “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” during Fall 2013.

  • ABC’s “The Conners” ranks as Tuesday’s No. 2 TV program this season with Adults 18-49 (tie), trailing only NBC’s “This Is Us.”



  • “The Conners” stands among the season’s Top 5 broadcast entertainment programs with Adults 18-49 (No. 5-tie).

ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (1.439 million) and Adults 18-49 (370,000), during the week of Nov. 12, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. 

For the 2nd week in a row, “Nightline” improved over the previous week (1.281 million, 447,000 and 339,000, respectively, for w/o 11/5/18) across the board: Total Viewers (+12%), Adults 25-54 (+10%) and Adults 18-49 (+9%). In fact, “Nightline” drew its largest overall audience in 8 months and posted a 5-month high in the key adult news demo – since weeks of 3/12/18 and 6/4/18, respectively.

“Nightline” improved on its year-ago week performance (1.350 million and 475,000, respectively, w/o 7/31/17) in Total Viewers (+7%) and Adults 25-54 (+3%).

Excluding the 2018 NBA Finals-led broadcasts, on Wednesday (11/14/18), Nightline” delivered its most-watched telecast (1.666 million) in 7 months and best numbers in Adults 25-54 (651,000) and Adult 18-49 (508,000) in 1 year – since 4/19/18 and 11/8/17, respectively.

Season to date, “Nightline” is leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+55,000 – 472,000 vs. 417,000) and Adults 18-49 (+38,000 – 351,000 vs. 313,000).

Stories on “Nightline” last week included California residents describing their loss and harrowing escape from the deadly wildfires, the alleged scheme by a couple and a homeless man accused of raising $400,000 “on a lie,” an exclusive interview with former first lady Michelle Obama, a re-examination of Monica Lewinsky’s affair with Bill Clinton, a look back at country music’s biggest stars and how their lives have changed in the past 10 years, Karlie Kloss on her passion for coding and a detailed look at the harrowing Thai cave rescue that captured the world’s attention.

ABC’s ‘The Good Doctor’ Tops NBC’s ‘Manifest’ for the 3rd Week Running

ABC Monday Prime Time (8:00-11:00 p.m. – 8.2 million and 1.3/5 in AD18-49):
ABC ranked No. 1 on Monday night in Total Viewers (8.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.3/5 – tied w/NBC). ABC’s season closer for “Dancing with the Stars” stood as the most-watched TV series on Monday, topping NBC’s “The Voice” (8.6 million vs. 7.9 million).

“Dancing with the Stars” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 8.6 million and 1.3/5 in AD18-49):
From 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC’s season finale of “Dancing with the Stars” surged week to week in Total Viewers (+16% – 8.5 million vs. 7.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (+44% – 1.3/5 vs.0.9/4), hitting new season highs

“The Good Doctor” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 7.5 million and 1.2/5 in AD18-49):
ABC’s “The Good Doctor” ranked as the most-watched TV series at 10:00 p.m., outdrawing NBC’s “Manifest” for the 3rd straight week(7.5 million vs. 5.6 million). In addition, “The Good Doctor” moved ahead of “Manifest” for the first time among Adults 18-49 (1.2/5 vs. 1.1/5). The ABC sophomore drama drew its biggest audience this season and a best-since-premiere Adult 18-49 rating – since 9/24/18.

and Biggest Overall Since Early June

‘Kimmel’ Grows for the 3rd Straight Week in Adults 18-49
to Its 2nd-Best Performance So Far This Season

‘Kimmel’ Scores Its Closest Finish This Season With NBC’s ‘Fallon’ in Viewers

“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” (M-F, 11:35 p.m.)
During the week of Nov. 12, 2018, ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” was up over the prior week by 16% in Total Viewers (2.262 million vs. 1.955 million) to draw its largest audience so far this season and its biggest since the first week of June– since the week of 6/4/18. In addition, “Kimmel” grew for the 3rd consecutive week among Adults 18-49 (+9% – 540,000 vs. 496,000) to its 2nd-best performance this season, behind only the show’s Back to Brooklyn week (w/o 10/15/18).

Featuring a second visit by former first lady Michelle Obama on Thursday (11/15/18), “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” scored its best performance on any night in late-night in 5 monthsin both Total Viewers (2.722 million) and Adults 18-49 (754,000) – since an NBA Finals-led broadcast on Friday, 6/8/18.

ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” ran neck and neck with CBS” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” among Adults 18-49 (with just 10,000 viewers between the two programs – 540,000 vs. 550,000), and with NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in Total Viewers (with less than 40,000 viewers separating the two shows – 2.262 million vs. 2.301 million). In fact, this week marked the ABC late-night program’s closest finish this season with NBC’s “Fallon.”
