NEW YORK, December 13, 2018 – Comedy Central announced today the details of the 360 content universe surrounding the previously announced one-hour stand-up special Ron Funches: Giggle Fit, which premieres January 4 at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT and kicks off Stand-Up Month on Comedy Central. The special — directed by Bobcat Goldthwait — is accompanied by a digital album and exclusive linear and digital companion content custom tailored for Ron Funches: Giggle Fit.
The album will be released on all digital retailers and streaming services on the day that the special premieres, January 4, and Funches will appear on Comedy Central’s Friday-night interstitial series Stupid Questions with Chris Distefano, which guides viewers through the night’s programming, the same evening.
Leading up to the on-air premiere, CC Stand-Up social accounts and the recently launched Comedy Central Stand-Up YouTube channel will debut original, exclusive companion content based on Giggle Fit and recorded in-studio with Funches, along with preview clips from the special itself.
On January 5, the full special will be available in the CC App, on CC.com and On Demand, and the uncensored version will be available for digital download on platforms including iTunes, Prime Video, Microsoft Movies & TV, Google Play, Vudu and Verizon Fios On Demand. Fans on Twitter can follow Funches at @RonFunches and CC Stand-Up at @standup to join the social conversation around the special.
In Ron Funches: Giggle Fit, Funches makes a dramatic wrestling-inspired entrance before hitting the stage for a precisely crafted hour that demonstrates his unique style of comedy. Forgoing the comic tendency to skewer and complain, Ron accentuates the positive in a refreshing set about a wide range of things he loves and enjoys: vision boarding, losing weight, parenting his autistic son, TV, and yes, wrestling. Filmed at The Neptune Theatre in Seattle, Ron Funches: Giggle Fit includes a pre-recorded custom open featuring professional wrestling icon Ric Flair.
Funches, Mike Duffy and Tim Duffy of Ugly Brother Studios, and Melanie Truhett-Posehn are Executive Producers. Anne Harris and Ryan Moran are the Executives in Charge of Production for Comedy Central.
Ron Funches is a triple threat. As a stand-up comedian, Funches is quickly becoming one of the top alt-comics of his generation. He is also an established writer and a versatile actor. Funches is well-known for his numerous guest appearances on Conan (2011-2018), where he was a fan favorite, and he recently completed a multicity standup tour as part of the “Conan & Friends” ensemble. He also is the popular voice of “Cooper” in the Trolls franchise, which includes the films Trolls (2016), Trolls: Coopers Colorful Guide to Trolls (2017), Trolls Holiday (2017) and Trolls World Tour (2020), as well as the Netflix TV series Trolls: The Beat Goes On! (2018). Funches is also known for his memorable acting roles on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Black-ish, New Girl, Transparent, Powerless, and Undateable. He will soon begin production on the upcoming DC series Harley Quinn, opposite Lake Bell, Kaley Cuoco, Tony Hale and Jason Alexander.
Featuring an expertly curated line-up of series and specials, Comedy Central is the epicenter of stand-up. From its Friday Night Stand-Up anchor on television to its social platforms, from 24/7 access on Comedy Central Radio and the Comedy Central App to home assistants, fans of Comedy Central stand-up consumed over 10 billion minutes of stand-up content this year. The recently launched Comedy Central Stand-Up channel on YouTube is a gold mine of both original material and exclusive clips for fans looking to revisit a classic special from a legendary comedian or discovering a new favorite performance.
