Anthony Mason will lead CBS News’ coverage of the 75th anniversary of D-Day from Normandy, France. He will anchor CBS THIS MORNING and the CBS EVENING NEWS on Wednesday, June 5 and Thursday, June 6. A team of CBS News correspondents, including Mark Phillips, Paula Reid and Ben Tracy, will report from the field with additional coverage and interviews with D-Day veterans. Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil and Dana Jacobson will anchor from the CBS Broadcast Center in New York.
Mason will also lead a CBS News special report alongside National World War II Museum historian Rob Citino on Thursday, June 6 from approximately 5:00-6:30 AM, ET for coverage surrounding the commemoration of the D-Day program and President Trump’s live address from Normandy.
The CBS EVENING NEWS will feature extensive coverage from Normandy and original reporting on D-Day and the anniversary all week.
CBS News correspondents Ben Tracy and Roxana Saberi are traveling with President Trump and will have the latest on his trip. CBS News correspondent David Martin gets access to unseen correspondence between two 20th century giants – Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt – that details their plans for the D-Day invasion. Mason will look back at the blow-by-blow coverage from CBS radio correspondents positioned in Europe during WWII. Mark Phillips will feature 97-year-old paratrooper Tom Rice, who jumped onto the beach 75 years ago and saw many of his fellow soldiers killed. He jumps again to commemorate the anniversary. Phillips will also profile Charles Shay, a medic who helped revive and treat soldiers during the invasion. He has since moved to Normandy to live out his remaining days and is participating in the ceremonies.
CBSN, CBS News’ 24/7 free streaming news service, will carry all special reports by Mason and the CBS News team while providing additional original reporting.
CBS News Radio will feature original recordings of reports from before and during the allied invasion of Normandy on Wednesday, June 5. The radio reports from 1944 will feature Edward R. Murrow, Charles Collingwood and Robert Trout.
CBS News will feature division-wide coverage on all platforms including the CBS Television Network, CBSN, CBS News’ 24/7 free streaming news service, the CBS EVENING NEWS, CBS News Radio and CBS Newspath.
