CBS NEWS WILL DEBUT ITS 2020 BATTLEGROUND TRACKER ON “FACE THE NATION” SUNDAY

CBS NEWS WILL DEBUT ITS 2020 BATTLEGROUND TRACKER ON “FACE THE NATION” SUNDAY

CBS News will debut its 2020 Battleground Tracker for the Democratic presidential nomination on FACE THE NATION (check local listings) Sunday, June 16. The 2020 Battleground Tracker is a comprehensive assessment that will begin with a look at the individual contests in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. The Battleground Tracker will also aggregate how the candidates are faring across early contest states leading up to and including Super Tuesday. It will show how vote choices could translate into elected delegates – because delegates to the convention are what ultimately decide the nominee.
It’s more than a poll. Befitting such an expansive field, it will be the largest primaries data project we’ve ever done,” said Anthony Salvanto, CBS News’ Elections and Surveys Director. “More than ever, 2020 demands we present the campaign to viewers in all the places that matter and in terms of issues they care about. This model and survey will do that.”
Big states like California have moved up in the race this year, along with states like Texas, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia, adding up to 18 early battleground contests within the first month of the primary season. That means candidates will be travelling all over, and voters in more places may make earlier decisions about their candidate of choice. The 2020 Battleground Tracker will go beyond the horse race to reveal what Democrats want in a nominee and for the country and which candidates are really under consideration.
Our aim is to show why and how Democrats are actually making their decisions, and because it is so early, help viewers get ahead of what will drive their thinking into next year,” Salvanto added. “As the race unfolds, CBS News will spotlight all the critical states and track how voters change and respond to what promises to be a dynamic 2020 campaign.”
The initial 2020 Battleground Tracker states will include Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia.
CBS News will present the 2020 Battleground Tracker in partnership with YouGov, a global public opinion and data company.
