ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (979,000), Adults 25-54 (339,000) and Adults 18-49 (255,000) for the 3rd time in the last 4 weeks, during the week of Aug. 19, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.  
“Nightline” improved on the previous week (w/o 8/12/19) in Adults 25-54 (+1% – 339,000 vs. 336,000) and Adults 18-49 (255,000 vs. 254,000).
Season to date, “Nightline” is leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+30,000 – 427,000 vs. 397,000) and Adults 18-49 (+28,000 – 316,000 vs. 288,000).

ABC ranked No. 1 on Monday night for the 7th straight week among Adults 18-49, topping runner-up NBC by 13% (0.9/5 vs. 0.8/4).

·       “Bachelor in Paradise” stood as Monday’s No. 1 TV show for the 4th time in 4 weeks with Adults 18-49 (1.2/6) and beat NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” head-to-head from 8:00-10:00 p.m. by 33% (0.9/4).

·       “BIP” held steady week to week in Adults 18-49, coming within 1-tenth of a rating point of the prior week’s season high (1.2/6 vs. 1.3/7).



·       For the 2nd week in a row, “Bachelor in Paradise” grew over its year-ago telecast, building over the comparable 4th Monday telecast from last summer (9/3/18) by 7% in Total Viewers (4.5 million vs. 4.2 million) and by 9% with Adults 18-49 (1.2/6 vs. 1.1/5).

 The season premiere of ABC’s “What Would You Do?” emerged as Friday’s No. 1 program among Adults 18-9 in Live +3 (0.56) and Live +7 (0.59), moving up from the No. 2 spot in Live + Same Day.  

“What Would You Do?” grew by +24% among Adults 18-49 (0.56 vs. 0.45) in L+3 and +31% among Adults 18-49 (0.59 vs. 0.45) in L+7 from its L+SD performance to stand as the night’s biggest gainer in delayed viewing. 

After seven days of delayed viewing, “What Would You Do?” improved from its season finale among Adults 18-49 by 16% (0.59 vs. 0.51 million on 9/7/18), topping its final four telecasts from last season – since 8/10/18.  

Digital Highlights

Over the weekend, “What Would You Do?” surpassed 4 million YouTube subscribers.

Recent digital and clip highlights from the new season of “What Would You Do” include the following: 

  • Coin Shaming scenario ranked in the Top 5 of YouTube trending all weekend, peaking at No. 2.
  • Split the Meal scenario has more than 20 million views combined on YouTube and Facebook.
  • Facebook video views have skyrocketed with more than 18 million views of scenarios from new season.
  • “What Would You Do?” Facebook page has added more than 100,000 likes and 160,000 followers since the premiere.

“What Would You Do?” with anchor John Quiñones reveals how people behave when they think no one is watching by using hidden cameras to record real reactions to thought-provoking scenarios created by actors.

ABC News’ “Nightline” averaged 1.007 million Total Viewers, 336,000 Adults 25-54 and 254,000 Adults 18-49, during the week of Aug. 12, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” beat CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (957,000, 276,000, and 199,000, respectively) in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+50,000), Adults 25-54 (+60,000) and Adults 18-49 (55,000).



“Nightline” narrowed its margins from the same week last year (w/o 8/13/18) with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in Adults 25-54 (-45% – 42,000 vs. 76,000) and Adults 18-49 (-54% – 19,000 vs. 41,000).



Season to date, “Nightline” is leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+31,000 – 428,000 vs. 397,000) and Adults 18-49 (+29,000 – 317,000 vs. 288,000).

With 2-year highs for “Bachelor in Paradise,” ABC ranked No. 1 on Monday night for the 6th consecutive week among Adults 18-49 (1.0/5), dominating its closest competition by 43% (NBC = 0.7/4). In addition, ABC edged out runner-up NBC to stand as the night’s most-watched network (+3% – 4.1 million vs. 4.0 million).



·       In its third week, ABC’s “Bachelor in Paradise” grew over the prior week in Total Viewers (+12% – 4.8 million vs. 4.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (+8% – 1.3/7 vs. 1.2/6) to attract its largest overall audience and match its highest-rated telecast in 2 years – since 8/28/17.



·       “BIP” stood as Monday’s No. 1 TV show for the 3rd week running in Adults 18-49 (1.3/7) and topped NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” as the night’s most-watched program (+7% – 4.8 million vs. 4.5 million).



·       “Bachelor in Paradise” improved over the comparable third Monday telecast from last summer (4.6 million and 1.2/6 on 8/27/18) in both Viewers (+4%) and Adults 18-49 (+8%).

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” stood as the evening’s No. 1 newscast in Total Viewers (8.370 million), Adults 25-54 (1.559 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.062 million) for the week of Aug. 12, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. Taking the top spot across the board for the 5th time in the last 6 weeks, “World News Tonight” outperformed “NBC Nightly News” (7.170 million, 1.517 million and 1.029, respectively) by 1.200 million Total Viewers, by 42,000 Adults 25-54 and by 33,000 Adults 18-49.  In addition, “World News Tonight” increased its Total Viewer lead week to week by 42% (vs. 846,000 for w/o 8/5/19), while more than doubling its margin of victory year to year (+108%; vs. 577,000 for w/o 8/13/18) to win for the 46th time in the 47 weeks of the season.

“World News Tonight” was up year to year (w/o 8/6/18) in Total Viewers (+379,000/+5% – 8.370 million vs. 7.991 million) and Adults 25-54 (+26,000/+2% – 1.559 million vs. 1.533 million), standing as the only evening newscast to improve in both measures.

“World News Tonight” grew week to week (w/o 8/5/19) in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+341,000/+4% – 8.370 million vs. 8.029 million), Adults 25-54 (+98,000/+7% – 1.559 million vs. 1.461 million) and Adults 18-49 (+30,000/+3% – 1.062 million vs. 1.032 million). “World News Tonight” turned in its largest overall audience in over 3 months and strongest key Adults performances in over 2 months – since weeks of 4/29/19 and 6/3/19, respectively.
         
For the week, “World News Tonight” beat “CBS Evening News” by 3.238 million Total Viewers, by 525,000 Adults 25-54 and by 321,000 Adults 18-49.

Season to date, “World News Tonight” ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 3rd year in a row after finishing as the No. 1 evening newscast for the last two seasons. “World News Tonight” (8.638 million) leads “NBC Nightly News” (7.993 million) by 645,000, delivering its largest Total Viewer lead in 23 years (since the 1995-1996 season) and “CBS Evening News” (5.905 million) by 2.733 million, posting its biggest Total Viewer advantage in at least 27 years (since at least the start of Nielsen electronic database in 1991-1992 season).

In addition, “World News Tonight” is cutting its season margins with NBC by more than half in both Adults 25-54 (-68% – 24,000 vs. 75,000) and Adults 18-49 (-74% – 22,000 vs. 84,000), posting its closest Adults 18-49 performance 12 years – since the 2006-2007 season.

NOTE: Due to NFL preseason on Thursday (8/15/19) and Friday (8/16/19), “World News Tonight” was retitled to “Wrld News Tonite.” In addition, “CBS Evening News” was retitled to “CBS Evening Nws” on Friday. The telecasts are excluded from the weekly averages. ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” stood as the No. 1 evening newscast in Total Viewers (8.029 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.032 million), for the week of Aug. 5, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” outdelivered “NBC Nightly News” (7.183 million and 1.031, respectively) by 846,000 Total Viewers and by 1,000 Adults 18-49. “World News Tonight” increased its Total Viewer lead year to year by 40% (vs. 606,000 for w/o 8/6/18) and won for the 45th time in the 46 weeks of the season.

“World News Tonight” improved on the same week last year (w/o 8/6/18) Total Viewers (+161,000/+2% – 8.029 million vs. 7.868 million), standing as the only evening newscast to grow. In fact, “World News Tonight” posted its 10th straight week of year-to-year Total Viewer increases.

“World News Tonight” built on the previous week (w/o 7/29/19) in Adults 18-49 (+21,000/+2% – 1.032 million vs. 1.011 million).

“World News Tonight” narrowed its margins with “NBC Nightly News” from the year-ago week (w/o 8/6/18) in Adults 25-54 (-35% – 50,000 vs. 77,000).

For the week, “World News Tonight” beat “CBS Evening News” by 3.169 million Total Viewers, by 501,000 Adults 25-54 and by 344,000 Adults 18-49.

Season to date, “World News Tonight” ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 3rd year in a row after finishing as the No. 1 evening newscast for the last two seasons. “World News Tonight” (8.641 million) leads “NBC Nightly News” (8.011 million) by 630,000, delivering its largest Total Viewer lead in 23 years (since the 1995-96 season) and “CBS Evening News” (5.920 million) by 2.721 million, posting its biggest Total Viewer advantage in at least 27 years (since at least the start of Nielsen electronic database in 1991-92 season).

Season to Date, ‘Nightline’ Leads CBS’ ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden’ in Adults 25–54 and Adults 18–49

ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (1.043 million), Adults 25-54 (343,000) and Adults 18-49 (264,000) for the 2nd consecutive week during the week of Aug. 5, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. In fact, “Nightline” turned in its first back-to-back wins across the board in over 3 years based on weeks of original telecasts on CBS and NBC—since weeks of 6/6/16 and 6/13/16.

“Nightline” beat CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (933,000, 281,000 and 196,000, respectively) by 110,000 Total Viewers, by 62,000 Adults 25-54 and by 68,000 Adults 18-49.

Season to date, “Nightline” is leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+30,000 – 430,000 vs. 400,000) and Adults 18-49 (+28,000 – 318,000 vs. 290,000).

During the week of Aug. 5, 2019, ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” ranked as the No. 1 late-night talk show among Adults 18-49 (413,000), topping NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” by 2% (403,000) and tying CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” (413,000) despite “Kimmel” airing a repeat telecast on Friday.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” grew for the 3rd consecutive week in Adults 18-49 (+8% – 413,000 vs. 382,000) to hit a 4-week high—since the week of 7/8/19.

Fueled by the 2-part “The Bachelorette” finale, ABC won its 3rd straight week in Adults 18-49 (0.8/4), beating runner-up NBC by 14% (0.7/4), while doubling CBS (+100% – 0.4/2) and Fox (+100% – 0.4/2). ABC spiked over the prior week by 33% among Adults 18-49 to a 7-week high—since the week of 6/10/19. In addition, ABC improved over the year-ago week by 33% (0.6/3 on w/o 7/30/18), standing as the only broadcast network to post year-to-year growth.



Rankings: “The Bachelorette” stood as the No. 1 program for the 3rd week in a row in Adults 18-49, as ABC claimed the week’s Top 2 programs with the Tuesday (2.1/10) and Monday (2.0/10) finales of “The Bachelorette,” respectively.

ABC’s “Bachelor in Paradise” opened as Monday’s No. 1 TV show in Adults 18-49 (1.3/7) and towered over NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” head-to-head from 8:00-10:00 p.m. by 63% (0.8/4). “BIP” soared over its season premiere on the year-ago night (1.1/5 on Tuesday, 8/7/18) by 18% with Adults 18-49 to tie the series’ highest-rated telecast in 2 years—since Monday, 8/28/17.

The season premiere of ABC’s “Bachelor in Paradise” was the No. 1 most-social entertainment program on Monday, earning 756,200 total social interactions.

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” stood as the evening’s No. 1 newscast in Total Viewers (8.066 million), Adults 25-54 (1.497 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.011 million) for the 3rd straight week for the week of July 29, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” outdelivered “NBC Nightly News” (6.922 million, 1.479 million and 966,000, respectively) by 1.144 million Total Viewers, by 18,000 Adults 25-54 and by 45,000 Adults 18-49, winning in Total Viewers for the 44th time in the 45 weeks of the season.

Further, “World News Tonight” beat “NBC Nightly News” for the 4th straight week in Adults 25-54 to post its longest string of consecutive news demo victories in over 4 years—since weeks of 5/25/15 thru 6/15/15.

“World News Tonight” improved week-to-week (w/o 7/22/19) in Total Viewers (+92,000/+1% – 8.066 million vs. 7.974 million) and Adults 25-54 (+27,000/+2% – 1.497 million vs. 1.470 million), drawing its largest overall audience in 8 weeks—since w/o 6/3/19.

“World News Tonight” stood as the only evening newscast to grow year to year in Total Viewers (+217,000/+3% – 8.066 million vs. 7.849 million for w/o 7/30/18).

For the week, “World News Tonight” led “CBS Evening News” by 3.169 million Total Viewers, by 543,000 Adults 25-54 and by 334,000 Adults 18-49.

Season to date, “World News Tonight” ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers for the 3rd year in a row after finishing as the No. 1 evening newscast for the last 2 seasons. “World News Tonight” (8.655 million) leads “NBC Nightly News” (8.029 million) by 626,000, delivering its largest Total Viewer lead in 23 years (since the 1995-96 season) and “CBS Evening News” (5.946 million) by 2.709 million, posting its biggest Total Viewer advantage in at least 27 years (since at least the start of Nielsen electronic database in 1991-92 season).

In addition, “World News Tonight” is cutting its season margins with NBC by more than half in both Adults 25-54 (-65% – 26,000 vs. 74,000) and Adults 18-49 (-71% – 25,000 vs. 87,000), posting its closest Adults 18-49 performance 12 years—since the 2006-07 season.
