In addition, September marked Discovery's 4th straight month of year-to-year growth among key P/M25-54 and P/M18-49 and saw double-digit growth (+11%) over September 2017.

In 3Q 2018, Discovery Channel dominated ratings as a top 5 cable network across key P/M25-54 and P/M18-49 and the network's ranks either held steady or improved compared to 3Q 2017 across all key measures, including an impressive gain of +4 spots in M18-49. ALASKAN BUSH PEOPLE was 3Q 2018's most watched unscripted cable series (excl. sports and news), averaging 2.94M P2+ while STREET OUTLAWS ranked as the #1 unscripted cable series (excl. sports) among M25-54 and M18-49.

The network continued its 2018 ratings streak in 3Q owning half of cable's top 10 unscripted series among M25-54 including #1 STREET OUTLAWS, #2 DEADLIEST CATCH, #6 DIESEL BROTHERS, #8 ALASKAN BUSH PEOPLE and #9 NAKED AND AFRAID.

Discovery Channel's "Alaskan Bush People" Season Premiere Ranks as Sunday Night's #1 Cable Telecast Among Total Viewers and M18-49

(Los Angeles) - Discovery's top-rated series, ALASKAN BUSH PEOPLE dominated ratings with its season premiere on Sunday, August 19. The season premiere was Sunday night's #1 unscripted cable telecast across P/M 25-54 and the #1 cable telecast among M18-49. The Brown family pushed Discovery to rank as cable's #1 network in Sunday Prime among M25-54 & M18-49 and was the most watched cable network of the night, averaging 4 million total viewers.

ALASKAN BUSH PEOPLE saw double digit growth over last year's season premiere across all 25-54s, 18-49s, Teens (12-17), and total viewers and had its highest-rated episode in over two years among W18-49. The series also posted its highest-rated episode since last season's finale in February 2017 across P/M25-54, P/M18-49, P/M18-34 and P2+. For the week of August 13-19, Discovery owned the top three unscripted cable telecasts among M25-54 and M18-49 with STREET OUTLAWS (#1) ALASKAN BUSH PEOPLE (#2), DEADLIEST CATCH (#3).

On social media, the season premiere of ALASKAN BUSH PEOPLE garnered 10,824 total social interactions across multiple platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and was +142% more social than last year's premiere. The series posted its most social episode in nearly two years and had its most social episode on Twitter ever (2,663 Twitter interactions).

(Los Angeles) - SHARK WEEK, television's longest-running and most anticipated summer event made a huge ratings splash for its 30th anniversary, topping both last year's SHARK WEEK and SHARK WEEK 2016 in Primetime across adults, men, and women 25-54 and 18-49, as well as among adults, men, and women 25-54, P/W18-49, and W18-34 in Total Day. The 30th installment of shark programming scored double-digit increases over both years among key demos including P25-54 (+15% vs. 2017 & +22% vs. 2016) and helped Discovery rank as the top network on all of TV in Prime during the week - beating the broadcast networks - among M18-49 and M18-34. Driven by SHARK WEEK 2018, Discovery finished the month of July up +9% over last July in key P25-54 and P18-49 and topped July 2017 across all 25-54s, all 18-49s, and all 18-34s.

After three decades and hundreds of shows, SHARK WEEK 2018 ranked as the 4th-highest rated SHARK WEEK on record (behind 2013-2015) across all 25-54s and 18-49s in Prime and among P/M25-54 and P/W18-49 in Total Day. In addition, this year's SHARK WEEK ranked as the 2nd-highest rated SHARK WEEK on record (behind 2015) among W25-54 in Total Day and reached 34.9M Total viewers across Total Day. In Prime, the week of July 23rd was the network's highest-rated week since SHARK WEEK 2015 across P/W25-54, P/W18-49, and W18-34.

For 30 years, SHARK WEEK has dominated ratings showing no signs of slowing down and during SHARK WEEK 2018, Discovery was cable's #1 network in Prime across all 25-54s, all 18-49s, and all 18-34s. In Total Day, the network also owned the top cable spot across all 25-54s and W18-49 during the week. During SHARK WEEK 2018, Discovery claimed 8 of cable's Top 10 non-sports telecasts with SHAQ DOES SHARK WEEK (#1), RONDA ROUSEY UNCAGED (#2), GREAT WHITE ABYSS (#3), LAWS OF JAWS (#4), AIR JAWS: THE HUNTED (#5), CUBA'S SECRET SHARK LAIR (#6), BEAR VS SHARK (#8) and GUY FIERI'S FEEDING FRENZY (#10) among M18-49. NAKED AND AFRAID OF SHARKS was the highest-rated episode of the series among key P25-54 since the season 3 finale in May 2017. The return of SHARK AFTER DARK and its live format ranked #2 in its cable time period across P/M25-54, all 18-49s, and M18-34.

SHARK WEEK engaged fans across multiple platforms and reached 48 million users across Facebook and Instagram. The week also garnered 3.5 million streams across all Discovery GO (DGO) digital platforms, peaking on Tuesday, July 24th, which became the #1 most-streamed day in DGO history. Overall, SHARK WEEK 2018 pushed DGO to its four best days ever.

FAST N' LOUD: MEGA RACE special which was #1 in M18-49 and M18-34. Discovery's series reached ratings milestones during the week with the Monday, February 26 season finale of STREET OUTLAWS: MEMPHIS - the series ranks as the network's highest-rated rookie in two years across P/M25-54, P/M18-49, and P/M18-34. GOLD RUSH pushed Discovery to rank as the #1 non-sports network on all of TV in Friday Prime among M18-49 and M18-34, topping all the broadcasters. The network was also cable's #1 non-sports network on the night across the board - all 25-54s, all 18-49s, all 18-34s, and Total Viewers. This is GOLD RUSH's 3rd straight year ranking as cable's #1 unscripted series across P25-54, M18-49 and P2+, and 4th straight year ranking #1 in M25-54. The hit series DEADLIEST CATCH dominated ratings in August and its season finale reached 11-week highs across key men. DEADLIEST CATCH ranked as the #1 cable telecast (excl. sports) among M25-54 every single week this season - 19 total weeks. DEADLIEST CATCH claimed August's #1 unscripted cable series in M25-54 while ALASKAN BUSH PEOPLE claimed the top spot across P2+.

MICHAEL PHELPS BREAKS YET ANOTHER RECORD
PHELPS VS. SHARK: GREAT GOLD VS. GREAT WHITE IS SHARK WEEK’S HIGHEST RATED TELECAST EVER

Michael Phelps may have taken silver against a great white shark in PHELPS VS. SHARK: GREAT GOLD VS. GREAT WHITE, but the special took home gold as Discovery’s highest-rated Shark Week telecast ever across P25-54, W25-54, and W18-49.  PHELPS VS. SHARK: GREAT GOLD VS. GREAT WHITE averaged over 5 million Total Viewers.

In addition to the medals for PHELPS VS. SHARK: GREAT GOLD VS. GREAT WHITE, Discovery was Sunday night’s #1 basic cable network in primetime, while also topping all broadcast networks across P/M 25-54, P/M/W18-49, and P/M/W18-34. Across the whole day, Shark Week programming reached over 15 million Total Viewers. Discovery also claimed the Top 4 unscripted cable telecasts of the day with PHELPS VS. SHARK: GREAT GOLD VS. SHARK WEEK was a huge hit for Discovery GO, the network’s TV everywhere streaming service. The premiere of Shark Week was the highest live and on-demand streaming day to date on DISCOVERY GO, with overall streams increasing daily as the week progressed, making Shark Week the most watched event on the platform. More than 50% of the Discovery GO streams were viewed by 18 - 34 year olds.

Discovery owned several of cable's top series across individual nights of the week during 1Q, including the #1 unscripted cable series in M25-54 & M18-49 across 4 nights of the week. Driven by the 4-week Mega Race build (STREET OUTLAWS and FAST N'LOUD crossover episodes) Discovery continues to dominate MOTOR MONDAYS with the 3 top series on Monday nights among M25-54 (with STREET OUTLAWS, FAST N' LOUD and DIESEL BROTHERS). Among P25-54, THE WHEEL was the best Friday series premiere on all of cable since the premiere of Discovery's own TREASURE QUEST: SNAKE ISLAND in July 2015.
GOLD RUSH continued to strike ratings gold earning a 2.74 P25-54 with 4.9M Total Viewers P2+ coming in #1 on cable for the 5th straight week across P2+ and all adults/men/women 25-54/18-49/18-34. For the 13th straight episode, GOLD RUSH was cable's #1 Friday Prime telecast across P/M25-54 & P/M18-49.
