Animal Planet Has Highest Rated Quarter In Two Years in 1Q18

During 1Q18, Animal Planet achieved its highest rated quarter in Prime Time among Adults 25-54 in almost two years (2Q16). Prime Time viewership was also up double-digits (20%) among Total Viewers P2+ during 1Q18 vs. 4Q17. Additionally, Animal Planet showed growth each month during 1Q18 among Adults 18-49.

1Q18 programming highlights included PUPPY BOWL XIV which was the highest-rated Puppy Bowl ever (1.49) among Adults 25-54 and it was up a whopping 30% in ratings vs. Puppy Bowl XIII in 1Q17. Other highlights included an all new season of THE ZOO which averaged 1.2 million viewers during the quarter; PIT BULLS & PAROLEES which averaged 1.1 million; THE VET LIFE which averaged 935,000 viewers and NORTH WOODS LAW and LONE STAR LAW which averaged 890,000 viewers and 853,000 viewers, respectively, during the quarter.

Animal Planet delivered double digit growth (+20%) among Adults 25-54 in February 2018, the largest A25-54 year-over-year gains in more than five years (Nov. 2012) in L+3. The network also delivered double-digit growth among Men 25-54 (up +10%) and Women 25-54 (up +20%) this month vs. Feb. 2017 and had the third-largest year-over-year growth among the Top 50 non-sports cable networks for the month in Adults 25-54 behind only A&E and WETV.

Additionally, Animal Planet delivered weekend and weekday Prime Time gains among Adults 25-54, including double-digits on Saturdays, the strongest night of the week, up +17% vs. Feb. 2017, driven by strong performances by Pit Bulls & Parolees and The Vet Life. Other double-digit gains for the month were seen on Mondays (+17%), Tuesdays (+36%), Thursdays (29%) and Sundays (+14%).
February programming highlights included Puppy Bowl XIV, the highest rated Puppy Bowl ever among Adults 25-54 (1.49) with an average of 3.1M total viewers, up +24% vs. last year's game. Puppy Bowl XIV on Feb. 4 ranked as the #1 cable telecast of the day, no exclusions, among Women 25-54, Women 18-49 and Total Viewers P2+. Other February highlights included Pit Bills & Parolees with an average of 1.1 million viewers for the month, North Woods Law (920,000 viewers), The Vet Life (899,000 viewers), Lone Star Law (837,000 viewers) and Treehouse Masters (778,000 viewers).

-The Irwin Family Return to Animal Planet Preview Earned a 1.09 rating with 2.26M Viewers-
Animal Planet's PUPPY BOWL XIV was the highest rated Puppy Bowl ever with a 1.46 rating on Sunday, Feb. 4 from 3-5PM/ET (12-2PM/PT) among Adults 25-54 in L+SD, up a whopping +32% from last year's game (1.11). PUPPY BOWL XIV beat 2014's Puppy Bowl X, formerly the highest rated PUPPY BOWL, by double digits (+17%) among Adults 25-54 (1.24). PUPPY BOWL XIV averaged more than three million Total Viewers P2+ (3.05) from 3-5PM/ET (12-2PM/PT) and was up 24% vs. Puppy Bowl XIII on Feb. 5, 2017 (2.5M).

Other key PUPPY BOWL XIV demos that were the highest-rated ever for the event and up double digits vs. Puppy Bowl XIII included Men 25-54 (up +39%), Women 25-54 (up +26%), Adults 18-49 (up +22%), Men 18-49 (up +33%) and Women 18-49 (up +15%). PUPPY BOWL XIV is Animal Planet's third highest rated telecast of all time among Adults 25-54.

PUPPY BOWL XIV conversation earned trending topics on Twitter and Facebook, with mentions from celebrities that included Allison Janney, Mark Hamill, Billy Eichner, Audra MacDonald and Grace Helbig, as well as Major League Baseball. Dictionary.com got in on the #PuppyBowl action on Twitter by defining "cute aggression" as "The weird urge to squeeze all the puppies in the @AnimalPlanet #PuppyBowlXIV".

The eight-minute preview of the Irwin Family Return to Animal Planet aired from 5:02-5:10PM/ET (2:02-2:10PM/PT) and had 2.26 million Total Viewers P2+ with a 1.09 rating among Adults 25-54. Animal Planet's exclusive preview episode of THE ZOO season two from 5:10-6:10PM/ET (2:10-3:10PM/PT) averaged 1.38 million Total Viewers P2+ and earned a 0.56 rating among Adults 25-54.

Animal Planet up +24% in Total Viewers, +9% in Persons 25-54 and +21% in Women 25-54 in March

All-new and returning series drove Animal Planet to double-digit increases in Prime Time viewership, and increases in Total Day as well in March 2017 vs. March 2016 in L+3. The network also delivered Prime Time growth among Adults 25-54 and double-digit increases in Women 25-54 for the month vs. the same month last year.

During March, Animal Planet was up +24% in Prime Time Total Viewers P2+ (668,000 vs. 538,000) and up +6% in Total Day viewership vs. March 2016. The network was also up in Prime Time ratings for the month in Adults 25-54 (+9%) and double-digits among Women 25-54 (+21%) vs. the same month last year.

March highlights included DR. JEFF: ROCKY MOUNTAIN VET as Animal Planet's most watched series in March with an average of 1.4 million viewers. THE ZOO was the network's most watched freshman series with an average of 1.2 million viewers, followed by NORTH WOODS LAW: NEW HAMPSHIRE with an average of 1 million (1.05m) viewers for the month.

Additionally, the series premiere of NORTH WOODS LAW: NEW HAMPSHIRE on March 5 was the network's highest rated Prime Time series premiere among Adults 25-54 in nearly two years (May 2015) and LONE STAR LAW delivered a series high in Total Viewers on March 5 with 1.1 million viewers.

ANIMAL NATION WITH ANTHONY ANDERSON Series Premiere Grabs Highest Rated Series Debut in Adults 25-54 Since 2014

(New York - Tuesday, Feb. 7) Animal Planet's PUPPY BOWL XIII was the second highest-rated Puppy Bowl ever with a 1.11 rating from 3-5PM/ET (12-2PM/PT) on Sunday, Feb. 5 among Adults 25-54 in L+SD, up +4% from last year's game (1.07) and ranking behind only Puppy Bowl X in 2014 (1.25). PUPPY BOWL XIII averaged 2.5 million Total Viewers P2+ from 3-5PM/ET (12-2PM/PT), up double digits (+12%) vs. Puppy Bowl XII in Feb. 2016 (2.2M). Other key demos that were up included Men 25-54 (+9%), Adults 18-49 (+17%), Adults 18-34 (+20%) and Adults 12-17 (+49%).
Puppy Bowl XIII pushed Animal Planet to rank #1 in its time period on all of cable among Total Viewers P2+, Adults 25-54, Men 25-54, Women 25-54, Person 18-49, Women 18-49, Persons 18-34.
PUPPY BOWL XIII dominated as the #1 cable telecast of the day among Total Viewers P2+, Women 25-54 and Women 18-49 and was the #1 non-sports cable telecast of the day among Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49.

PUPPY BOWL XIII ranked #2 in ALL OF TELEVISION from 3-5PM/ET (12-2PM/PT) in its timeslot among Women 25-54 and Women 18-49 for the fifth consecutive year, no exclusions, beating programming on ABC, NBC, CBS, and all of cable, behind only FOX and its Super Bowl coverage.

In social and digital, PUPPY BOWL XIII beat out the competition to land as the #1 most social non-sports program for Sunday, while coming in at as the #2 most social TV program overall on Sunday. Responding to Team Fluff's revenge over Team Ruff, 1.2 million people generated 1.5 million social media interactions across Facebook and Twitter.

Puppy Bowl conversation earned trending topics on Twitter and Facebook, with mentions on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram from celebrities Amy Schumer, Rainn Wilson, Rob Lowe, Wil Wheaton, Latoya Jackson and Alyson Hannigan. Even Lin-Manuel Miranda paid homage to the aptly named puppy star, Alexander Hamilpup. Wearing their #TeamRuff and #TeamFluff bandanas, dogs all over the country cheered on the pups via their social media including the celeb pups @Chloetheminifrenchie, @Manny_the_Frenchie and @Calistathepitbull, among others.
 
The premiere of ANIMAL NATION WITH ANTHONY ANDERSON at 5PM with a .51 rating in Adults 25-54 made it Animal Planet's strongest series launch in nearly three years in L+SD (Rocky Mountain Bounty Hunters - April 4, 2014). The episode drove Animal Planet to break into cable top five networks in its time period in Adults 25-54 (#4), Men 25-54 (#5), Adults 18-49 (#4), Men 18-49 (#3), Women 18-49 (#4), Adults 18-34 (#3), and Adults 12-17 (#4). ANIMAL NATION WITH ANTHONY ANDERSON will air in its regular timeslot beginning Friday, Feb. 10 at 10PM ET/PT.
