ABC’s “The View” averaged 2.929 million Total Viewers, 521,000 Women 25-54 and 340,000 Women 18-49 during the week of October 23, 2017, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “The View” led CBS’ “The Talk” (2.599 million, 403,000 and 268,000, respectively) during the week in Total Viewers (+330,000), Women 25-54 (+118,000) and Women 18-49 (+72,000).

“The View” improved on the previous week (2.819 million, 487,000 and 319,000, respectively, for w/o 10/16/17) in Total Viewers (+4%), Women 25-54 (+7%) and Women 18-49 (+7%), seeing its most watched week in 7 months – since w/o 3/13/17.

On Monday (10/23/17) with guest John McCain, “The View” scored its most watched telecast (3.368 million) in 9 months – since 1/24/17.  

Season to date, “The View” leads CBS’ “The Talk” across the board, substantially increasing its advantages from the same point last season in Total Viewers (343,000 vs. 145,000), Women 25-54 (126,000 vs. 25,000) and Women 18-49 (82,000 vs. 39,000). In fact, “The View” is posting its largest season leads over the CBS program in 5 years – since the 2012-13 season.

In addition, “The View” is improving compared to the same point last season in Total Viewers (+11,000 – 2.863 million vs. 2.852 million), posting its strongest numbers in 3 years – since the 2014-15 season.

For the week of October 23, 2017, ABC’s “The Chew” beat CBS’ “The Talk” for the 20th consecutive week in Women 18-49(+26% – 284,000/0.4 rating vs. 268,000/0.4 rating) and for the 12th week in a row in Women 25-54 (+7% – 437,000/0.7 rating vs. 403,000/0.7 rating) – dates back to weeks of 6/12/17 and 8/7/17, respectively.

ABC’s “The Chew” posted week to week gains in key demos including Women 18-49(+6% – 284,000 vs. 269,000) and Women 25-54(+7% – 437,000 vs. 408,000).

From 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” grew by double digits week to week in Total Viewers (+11% – 10.1 million vs. 9.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (+15% – 1.5/5 vs. 1.3/4) to deliver best-since premiere numbers on both counts – since 9/18/17. “Dancing” won its 2-hour time period with Total Viewers and came within a best-of-season 4-tenths of “The Voice” in Adults 18-49.

“The Good Doctor” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 10.9 million and 2.0/8 in AD18-49):
Building on its “Dancing” lead-in on all 6 telecasts so far at 10:00 p.m. (+8%/+33%), ABC’s “The Good Doctor” continued to beat its combined drama competitionon NBC (“The Brave” = 4.7 million and 0.8/3) and CBS (“Scorpion” = 4.8 million and 0.7/3) to stand as the top series in the hour for the 6th time in as many airings with Total Viewers (10.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.0/8). “The Good Doctor” advanced week to week in Total Viewers (+5%) and Adults 18-49 (+11%) to draw its biggest audience in 4 weeks – since 10/2/17.

ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in all key target demos: Total Viewers (1.530 million), Adults 25-54 (547,000) and Adults 18-49 (416,000) during the week of October 16, 2017, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.  Winning the first four weeks of the 2017-18 season in Total Viewers, “Nightline” is delivering its best-ever competitive start to a season in the time period – since the beginning of the 2013-14 season.

“Nightline” posted gains over the previous week (1.404 million, 489,000 and 355,000, respectively, for w/o 10/9/17) in Total Viewers (+9%), Adults 25-54 (+12%) and Adults 18-49 (+17%), drawing its largest overall audience in 4 months – since w/o 6/5/17.

“Nightline” improved on the year-ago week (1.439 million and 408,000, respectively, for w/o 10/10/16) in Total Viewers (+6%) and Adults 18-49 (+2%).

“Nightline” had the No. 1 telecast during the week in Total Viewers (1.724 million), Adults 25-54 (629,000) and Adults 18-49 (463,000) with its Monday airing (10/16/17), outdrawing every telecast of the week of CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”  

Season to date, “Nightline” ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers (1.528 million), leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (1.409 million) by 119,000 and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” (1.509 million) by 19,000.

In addition, “Nightline” is beating CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+53,000 – 561,000 vs. 508,000) and Adults 18-49 (+33,000 – 422,000 vs. 389,000).
           
“Nightline” is improving compared to the same point last season in Total Viewers (+22,000 – 1.528 million vs. 1.506 million), drawing its largest overall audience in 3 years – since the 2014-15 season.

Stories on “Nightline” last week included the first television interview with Bowe Bergdahl, the soldier who plead guilty to desertion charges; a report from the tiny Caribbean island of Dominica which lost entire communities, forests and infrastructures during Hurricane Maria; interviews with Gold medal Olympian McKayla Maroney about her story of alleged sexual assault; and Gabrielle Union about her experience as a rape survivor, life with NBA star Dwayne Wade and her struggle with multiple miscarriages; and a one-on-one with Alex Rodriguez as he opened up about his girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez, and what he’s calling his “second act.”

NOTE: For the week, CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” was retitled to “The Late Late Show – JC-ENC” and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” was retitled to “Late Night with Seth Meyers-SM.”  The telecasts are excluded from the season averages.

With college football coverage (Michigan at Penn State), ABC ranked a dominant No. 1 among the broadcasters on Saturday in Adults 18-49 (2.1/9), beating NBC (0.8/3) and Fox (0.4/2) combined by 75% with their college football coverage. In addition, ABC was the night’s most watched broadcaster (7.1 million) by 4.2 million viewers over NBC (2.9 million) and by 5.7 million viewers over Fox (1.4 million). ABC grew over the prior week (2.9 million and 0.8/3) by 145% in Total Viewers and 163% in Adults 18-49 to score new season highs on the night.
  • Airing from 7:36-11:05 p.m., ABC’s “Saturday Night Football” was easily the evening’s No. 1 broadcast program in Total Viewers (7.0 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.1/9), standing as night’s highest-rated broadcast show for the 8th consecutive week among young adults.

During the third week of the new season, ABC claimed the #1 gainer in L+3 playback among Adults 18-49 and once again had more of the Top 10 gainers than any other network with 5 programs (NBC - 4, Fox - 2, CBS - 2): The Good Doctor (+1.6 rating points) - #1, Grey's Anatomy (+1.1) - #4, Modern Family (+0.9) - #6, while How to Get Away with Murder (+0.8) and Scandal (+0.8) tied for #9. In fact, ABC had the #1 gainer on Monday with The Good Doctor, on Wednesday with Modern Family, on Thursday with Grey's Anatomy and on Friday with Once Upon a Time (+0.5 rating points).

ABC also claimed the week's biggest overall gainer in Total Viewers and 2 of the Top 3 with The Good Doctor (+5.6 million) - #1 and Designated Survivor (+3.7 million) - #3.

“The View” increased its advantages over CBS’ “The Talk” week to week in all key target demos: Total Viewers (385,000 vs. 208,000), Women 25-54 (142,000 vs. 131,000) and Women 18-49 (115,000 vs. 73,000).

On Monday (10/9/17), on the premiere telecast with new co-host Meghan McCain, “The View” drew 3.061 million viewers to stand as the show’s 2nd most watched telecast in 7 months – since 3/14/17, behind only the telecast featuring guest Hilary Clinton (9/13/17).

“The View” improved on the previous week (2.698 million, 510,000 and 336,000, respectively, for w/o 10/2/17) in Total Viewers (+5%), Women 25-54 (+1%) and Women 18-49 (+8%), seeing its largest overall audience in 7 months – since w/o 3/13/17.

“The View” posted gains on the same week last year (2.684 million, 480,000 and 356,000, respectively, for w/o 10/3/16) in all key target demos Total Viewers (+6%), Women 25-54 (+7%) and Women 18-49 (+2%)

Season to date, “The View” leads CBS’ “The Talk” across the board, substantially increasing its advantages from the same point last season: Total Viewers (322,000 vs. 60,000), Women 25-54 (133,000 vs. 4,000) and Women 18-49 (94,000 vs. 26,000). In fact, “The View” is posting its largest season leads over the CBS program in 5 years – since the 2012-13 season.

In addition, “The View” is improving compared to the same point last season in Total Viewers (+2% – 2.804 million vs. 2.744 million) and Women 25-54 (+1% – 517,000 vs. 510,000), posting its strongest numbers in 3 years – since the 2014-15 season.

ABC News' "Nightline" ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (1.404 million) during the week of October 9, 2017, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. "Nightline" beat CBS' "The Late Late Show with James Corden" (1.336 million) by 68,000 and NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.368 million) by 36,000 to win the first three weeks of the 2017-18 season.

"Nightline" also defeated CBS' "The Late Late Show with James Corden" in Adults 25-54 (+16,000 - 489,000 vs. 473,000) and Adults 18-49 (+10,000 - 355,000 vs. 345,000).
           
"Nightline" narrowed its year-to-year margins with NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers" in Adults 25-54 (-2% - 86,000 vs. 88,000) and Adults 18-49 (-16% - 102,000 vs. 121,000).

"Nightline" had the No. 1 telecast during the week in Total Viewers (1.562 million) with its Monday airing (10/9/17), outdrawing every telecast of the week of CBS' "The Late Late Show with James Corden" and NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers."
 
Season to date, "Nightline" ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers (1.507 million), leading CBS' "The Late Late Show with James Corden" (1.405 million) by 102,000 and NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.504 million) by 3,000.

In addition, "Nightline" is beating CBS' "The Late Late Show with James Corden" in Adults 25-54 (+52,000 - 558,000 vs. 506,000) and Adults 18-49 (+32,000 - 419,000 vs. 387,000).

ABC’s “The View” averaged 2.698 million Total Viewers, 510,000 Women 25-54 and 336,000 Women 18-49 during the week of October 2, 2017, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “The View” led CBS’ “The Talk” (2.490 million, 379,000 and 263,000, respectively) during the week in Total Viewers (+208,000), Women 25-54 (+131,000) and Women 18-49 (+73,000).

“The View” widened its leads over CBS’ “The Talk” year to year across the board: Total Viewers (208,000 vs. 52,000), Women 25-54 (131,000 vs. 16,000) and Women 18-49 (73,000 vs. 44,000).

“The View” was up week to week in Women 25-54 (+5% -510,000 vs. 488,000 for w/o 9/25/17).
Season to date, “The View” leads CBS’ “The Talk” across the board, substantially increasing its advantages from the same point last season: Total Viewers (267,000 vs. 53,000), Women 25-54 (123,000 vs. 16,000) and Women 18-49 (78,000 vs. 31,000).  In fact, “The View” is posting its largest season leads over the CBS program in 5 years – since the 2012-13 season.

ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (1.495 million) and Adults 25-54
(588,000-tie) during the week of October 2, 2017, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. In Total Viewers, “Nightline” defeated CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (1.374 million) by 121,000 and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” (1.372 million) by 123,000 to win the first two weeks of the 2017-18 season.

For the 2nd week in a row, “Nightline” improved on the previous week (1.465 million, and 538,000 for w/o 9/25/17) in Total Viewers (+2%) and Adults 25-54 (+9%), delivering its strongest numbers in 4 months – since w/o 6/5/17.

“Nightline” saw gains on the year-ago week (1.414 million and 538,000 for w/o 9/26/16) in Total Viewers (+6%) and Adults 25-54 (+9%).

“Nightline” had the No. 1 telecast during the week in Total Viewers (1.913 million), Adults 25-54 (701,000) and Adults 18-49 (523,000) with its Monday airing (10/2/17), outdrawing every telecast of the week of CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”  

Season to date, “Nightline” ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers (1.529 million), leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (1.402 million) by 127,000 and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” (1.491 million) by 38,000.

In addition, “Nightline” is improving compared to the same point last season across the board: Total Viewers (+51,000 – 1.529 million vs. 1.478 million), Adults 25-54 (+31,000 – 583,000 vs. 552,000) and Adults 18-49 (+11,000 – 444,000 vs. 433,000).

Stories on “Nightline” last week included in-depth and extensive coverage of the Las Vegas massacre – eyewitness accounts of horror and heroes who jumped in to save others when suspect Stephen Paddock opened fire, emerging details about the gunman and his intent to scope out another festival, interviews with survivors as they begin the healing process, an ER doctor who treated children in Sandy Hook, and a mother who lost her son in the Pulse nightclub massacre share their views on U.S. gun legislation.

ABC News’ “Nightline” is anchored by Dan Harris, Juju Chang and Byron Pitts. Steven Baker is senior broadcast producer. The program airs weeknights from 12:35-1:05 a.m. EDT, on The ABC Television Network. Together with “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Nightline” is part of ABC’s winning late-night strategy of airing news and entertainment programming.

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” ranked as the No. 1 evening newscast in Total Viewers (8.544 million) for the week of October 2, 2017, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. The ABC evening newscast led “NBC Nightly News” (8.174 million) by 370,000. David Muir anchored live from Las Vegas Monday through Wednesday after the deadly shooting.

“World News Tonight” scored week-to-week gains (8.213 million, 1.753 million and 1.183 million, respectively, on w/o 9/25/17) in Total Viewers (+4%), Adults 25-54 (+5%) and Adults 18-49 (+6%), hitting 4-week highs across the board – since w/o 9/4/17.

“World News Tonight” improved on the year-ago week (9/26/17) in Total Viewers (+3% – 8.544 million vs. 8.276 million) and Adults 25-54 (+2% – 1.843 million vs. 1.801 million).

Two weeks into the season, “World News Tonight” ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers at this point of the season for the 2nd year in a row.  In fact, “World News Tonight” is increasing its lead over “NBC Nightly News” from last season by 40% (390,000 vs. 278,000).  In addition, “World News Tonight” is cutting its season margins with the NBC program nearly in half (-49% – 109,000 vs. 212,000).

“World News Tonight” is delivering its strongest Total Viewer start to a season in 14 years – since the 2003-04 season. “World News Tonight” is up in Total Viewers (+2% – 8.419 million vs. 8.256 million) and Adults 25-54 (+1% – 1.809 million vs. 1.794 million) compared to the first two weeks of last season.   

“World News Tonight” cut its year-to-year gaps with “NBC Nightly News” in Adults 25-54 (-35% – 147,000 vs. 226,000) and Adults 18-49 (-13% – 164,000 vs. 188,000).

For the week, “World News Tonight” defeated the “CBS Evening News” by 2.083 million Total Viewers, by 432,000 Adults 25-54 and by 304,000 Adults 18-49.

NOTE: Due to NFL on Thursday (10/05/17), “CBS Evening News” was retitled to “CBS Evening News” and was excluded from the weekly averages. CBS’ averages are based on 4 days (Mon.-Wed. and Fri.).

Excluding the NBA Finals weeks in June, “Kimmel” soared to its strongest week since January in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 – since the week of 1/2/17.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” improved over the year-ago week(2.145 million and 644,000 on w/o 9/26/16) in Total Viewers (+11%) and Adults 18-49 (+1%). Live + 3 Day Data for Monday, 10/2/17

The second episode of ABC's The Good Doctor picked up an additional +5.1 million Total Viewers after 3 days of TV playback, growing by more than +5.0 million viewers for the 2nd week in a row. In fact, The Good Doctor claims the two biggest Total Viewer L+3 increases on any network of the new season so far, as its +5.1 million viewer gain in week 2 tops the lifts for the premieres of NBC's This is Us (+4.8 million) and Will & Grace (+4.6 million) and CBS' The Big Bang Theory (+4.4 million) the prior week. The Good Doctor soared to 16.0 million Total Viewers after 3 days of TV playback (from 10.9 million in L+SD).

The new ABC drama tied its debut playback lift among Adults 18-49 with a +1.5 rating point jump over its L+SD rating. The Good Doctor spiked to a 3.7 L+3 rating (from a 2.2 in L+SD) to match its week-earlier debut. In addition, The Good Doctor grew over its debut by 4% in Women 18-49 (4.9 rating vs. 4.7 rating).

Growing to 16.0 million viewers and a 3.7 Adult 18-49 rating, The Good Doctor moved ahead of NBC's The Voice (12.9 million and 3.1 rating) to emerge as Monday's #2 show in the L+3 numbers, behind only CBS' The Big Bang Theory.

“The Middle” (8:00-8:30 p.m. – 6.1 million and 1.6/6 in AD18-49):
At 8:00 p.m., the final season premiere of ABC’s “The Middle” surged over its May finale (on 5/16/17) by 15% in Total Viewers (6.1 million vs. 5.3 million) and by 33% in Adults 18-49 (1.6/6 vs. 1.2/6) drawing its largest audience since March and tying its top rating since January – since 3/7/17 and 1/17/17, respectively. “The Middle” was Tuesday’s top comedy.

“Fresh Off the Boat” (8:30-9:00 p.m. – 4.5 million and 1.3/5): 
At 8:30 p.m., ABC’s “Fresh Off the Boat” jumped from its May closer (on 5/16/17) by 25% in Total Viewers (4.5 million vs. 3.6 million) and by 30% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/5 vs. 1.0/4) to its most watched telecast on the night in 1 year, while topping its last 13 originals on the evening in young adults to earn its highest rating of 2017 – since 10/11/16 and 1/3/17, respectively.

“black-ish” (9:00-9:30 p.m. – 4.7 million and 1.5/5): 
Building on its lead-in at 9:00 p.m. (+15%) and moving from Wednesday following “Modern Family” for the first time in 3 seasons to anchor ABC’s Tuesday comedy block, ABC’s “black-ish” grew over its May finale out of “Modern Family” (on 5/10/17) by 15% in Adults 18-49 (1.5/5 vs. 1.3/5), outrating its last 5 originals on Wednesday night – since 3/29/17. Dominating its comedy competition in the half-hour, “black-ish” beat out Fox’s “The Mick” by 89% in Total Viewers (4.7 million vs. 2.5 million) and by 67% in Adults 18-49 (1.5/5 vs. 0.9/3).
   
“The Mayor” (9:30-10:00 p.m. – 4.1 million and 1.2/4): 
At 9:30 p.m., ABC’s series debut of “The Mayor” delivered solid retention of its strong “black-ish” lead-in (87%/80%) to more than double Fox’s competing “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” with Total Viewers (+116% – 4.1 million vs. 1.9 million) and beat it by 71% in Adults 18-49 (1.2/4 vs. 0.7/2), respectively.The Mayor” drew ABC’s biggest in-season series audience to the time period in 2 years and its best young adult number since December 2015– since 10/6/15 and 12/8/15.

Building on its Total Viewer lead-in at 10:00 p.m., ABC’s opener of “Kevin (Probably) Saves the World” scored ABC’s most watched series debut (4.2 million) in the hour in 4 years and its top-rated with Adults 18-49 (1.0/4) in over 2-1/2 years – since 9/24/13 and 2/25/14, respectivelyIn addition, the show delivered ABC’s best results with a drama telecast in the hour since March 2015 in viewers and since September 2016 in Adults 18-49 – since 3/31/15 and 9/20/16, respectively. ‘The View’ Improves Week to Week and Year to Year in Total Viewers

ABC’s “The View” averaged 2.695 million Total Viewers, 488,000 Women 25-54 and 340,000 Women 18-49 during the week of September 25, 2017, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “The View” beat CBS’ “The Talk” (2.417 million, 377,000 and 266,000, respectively) during the week in Total Viewers (+278,000), Women 25-54 (+111,000) and Women 18-49 (+74,000).

“The View” substantially increased its leads over CBS’ “The Talk” compared to its leads on the year-ago week across the board: Total Viewers (278,000 vs. 29,000), Women 25-54 (111,000 vs. 13,000) and Women 18-49 (74,000 vs. 19,000).

“The View” improved on the previous week in Total Viewers (2.695 million vs. 2.684 million for w/o 9/18/17). 

“The View” also was up year to year in Total Viewers (+1% – 2.695 million vs. 2.667 million for w/o 9/19/16).

Surging over its “Dancing” lead-in at 10:00 pm and holding steady throughout its premiere, ABC’s “The Good Doctor” debuted as the No. 1 series in its hour, dominating NBC’s debut of “The Brave” by 87% in Total Viewers (11.2 million vs. 6.0 million), by 69% in Adults 18-49 (2.2/8 vs. 1.3/5) and by 59% in Adults 25-54 (2.7/7 vs. 1.7/5).
  • “The Good Doctor” opened as ABC’s most watched Monday drama debut in 21 years and top- rated with Adults 18-49 in 8 ½ years – since “Dangerous Minds” on 9/30/96 and “Castle” on 3/9/09, respectively. In fact, “The Good Doctor” outdelivered the year-ago debut of “Conviction” (on 10/3/16) on the night by triple-digit percentages in Total Viewers (+115%), Adults 18-49 (+144%) and Adults 25-54 (+125%).

At 8:00 p.m. against season premieres of CBS’ “NCIS” and NBC’s “The Voice,” ABC’s season finale of “Celebrity Family Feud” jumped by double digits over its most recent telecast this past Sunday in Total Viewers (+17% – 6.1 million vs. 5.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (+18% – 1.3/5 vs. 1.1/4). Head-to-head in the hour, ABC’s “Celebrity Family Feud” beat Fox’s season premiere of “Lethal Weapon”(4.4 million and 1.2/5) by 1.7 million viewers and by 8% in Adults 18-49. 
  • Opposite the stiff competition, “Celebrity Family Feud” scored its highest Adult 18-49 rating in nearly 3 months– since 7/9/17.

“DWTS-SP” (9:00-11:00 p.m. – 7.2 million and 1.2/4 in AD18-49):
From 9:00-11:00 p.m. against season premiere/debut programming on the other broadcasters including NBC’s “This Is Us,” ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” drew 7.2 million viewers and took 2nd in its 2-hour slot with Adults 18-49 (1.2/4), beating CBS (1.1/4) and Fox (0.8/3). 
  • In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, “DWTS” generated ABC’s best results in the time period since season finale Tuesday in May – since 5/23/17.

  • Wednesday
ABC ranked No. 2 on season premiere Wednesday in Adults 18-49 (1.5/6-tied w/CBS) to an “Empire”-driven Fox, beating NBC’s premieres by 15% (1.3/5). ABC’s “Modern Family” was Wednesday’s No. 2 TV show, coming within 3-tenths of “Empire”’s premiere in Adults 18-49 (2.1/8 vs. 2.4/10). In addition, ABC’s 8:00 p.m. Wednesday lead-off “The Goldbergs” (1.8/8) tied or beat out all 6 of the CBS and NBC premieres/debuts on the night, including CBS’ “Survivor” (1.8/7), “Seal Team” (1.5/6) and “Criminal Minds” (1.3/5), as well as NBC’s “The Blacklist” (1.1/5), “Law & Order: SVU” (1.4/5) and “Chicago P.D.” (1.3/5). Each of ABC’s Wednesday comedies returned above their season finales in May.
  • At 8:00 p.m. opposite Fox’s “Empire,” ABC’s “The Goldbergs” opener ranked No. 2 with Adults 18-49 (1.8/8), tying CBS’ “Survivor” premiere in the half-hour. “The Goldbergs” was up from its May finale by 17% in Total Viewers and by 29% in Adults 18-49, attracting its biggest crowd since February and topping its final 8 original telecasts last season with young adults – since 2/22/17 and 3/1/17, respectively.

  • At 8:30 p.m. against the second half-hours of “Empire” and “Survivor,” ABC’s “Speechless” topped NBC’s “The Blacklist” premiere in the half-hour by 27% in Adults 18-49 (1.4/6 vs. 1.1/5). “Speechless” grew over its May finale by 11% in Total Viewers and by 17% in Adults 18-49, delivering its largest audience since February – since 2/22/17.
  • At 9:00 p.m., ABC’s “Modern Family” won its half-hour among Adults 18-49 (2.1/8), besting Fox’s “Star” premiere by 17% (1.8/7), CBS’ “Seal Team” debut by 31% (1.6/6) and NBC’s “L&O: SVU” opener by 50% (1.4/5). “Modern Family” surged over its May finale by 13% in Total Viewers and by 24% in Adults 18-49, earning its top numbers since early February – since 2/8/17.

  • At 9:30 p.m., moving from Tuesday last season to Wednesday this season, ABC’s “American Housewife” ran neck and neck for No. 1 in its slot with “Star” in Adults 18-49 (1.6/6 vs. 1.7/6), beating the second half-hours of CBS’ “Seal Team” (1.5/6) and NBC’s “L&O: SVU” (1.5/5). “American Housewife” shot up from its May finale on Tuesday by 30% in Total Viewers and by 33% in Adults 18-49, marking its most watched telecast since January and matching its highest young adult rating in nearly 1-year – since 1/10/17 and 10/18/16, respectively.
  • In the 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s “Designated Survivor” sophomore season premiere is projected to win the hour once TV Playback is included. Setting TV playback records throughout its freshman season run,  ABC’s “Designated Survivor” closed out last season as TV’s No. 1 10 o’clock series in Adults 18-49 (2.9/11 in Live + 7 Day).  In fact, the ABC freshman drama was the 2016-17 season’s top gainer in TV playback among Adults 18-49, shooting up by +142% in L+7 over its L+SD rating. “Designated Survivor” grew 8% from its Live + Same Day May finale in Total Viewers (5.5 million vs. 5.1 million) and held exactly even in Adults 18-49 (1.1/5), drawing its biggest audience since March– since 3/15/17.

  • Thursday
Opposite a big Bears-Packers NFL matchup on Thursday on CBS, ABC was the non-sports leader in Adults 18-49 (1.9/7), beating NBC on the night with the high-rated “Will & Grace” premiere by 19% (1.9/7 vs. 1.6/6) and nearly doubling Fox with its dramas (90% over “Gotham”/”The Orville” = 1.0/4). With its Thursday dramas consistently delivering big increases in TV Playback, ABC will considerably close the Adult 18-49 competitive gap on the night with CBS in Live + 3 Day and Live + 7 Day ratings. ABC’s “How to Get Away with Murder” was one of last season’s biggest gainers in Live + 7 Day TV playback, doubling (+100%) its Live + Same Day Adult 18-49 rating and growing by +3.3 million Total Viewers in the finalized L+7 playback numbers. In addition last season, “Grey’s” added +1.4 Adult 18-49 rating points to its L+SD number in playback to average a 3.5 rating for the season in Live +7.
  • From 8:00-10:00 p.m., the 14th season premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy” made ABC the No. 1 non-sports network in the 2-hour time period with Total Viewers (8.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.3/9). “Grey’s” gained viewers (+3%) and jumped 15% over its May finale in Adults 18-49 (7.9 million and 2.0/9 on 5/18/17), delivering its best numbers since the beginning of February – since 2/9/17 and 2/2/17, respectively. “Grey’s” stood as Thursday’s No. 1 TV show in Women 18-34, beating the “Will & Grace” premiere by 75% (2.8/13 vs. 1.6/7).

  • Friday
“Marvel’s Inhumans” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 3.8 million and 0.9/4 in AD18-49):
After becoming the first-ever TV series to make a theatrical premiere in IMAX earlier this month, ABC’s “Marvel’s Inhumans” opened at No. 1 in its linear Live + Same Day TV debut with Adults 18-49 (0.9/4) on Friday night from 8:00-10:00 p.m., tying season premieres on CBS in the 2-hour slot (“MacGyver”/”Hawaii Five-0” = 0.9/4) and beating Fox premieres by 29% (“Hell’s Kitchen”/”The Exorcist” = 0.7/3).
  • On the night, ABC’s “Inhumans” premiere more than doubled Fox’s 9:00 p.m. “The Exorcist” premiere in Total Viewers (+138% – 3.8 million vs. 1.6 million) and outdelivered it by 80% in Adults 18-49 (0.9/4 vs. 0.5/2). “Inhumans” was also 13% higher rated than CBS’ Season 2 premiere of “MacGyver” in Adults 18-49 (0.8/4 from 8:00-9:00 p.m.).

  • ABC’s Marvel series have exhibited consistently big gains in TV playback. And despite airing on Friday with lower TV Usage levels, “Inhumans” opened above the 2017 Live + Same Day averages (1/10-5/16/17) for “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” in Total Viewers (3.8 million vs. 2.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (0.9/4 vs. 0.7/3). “S.H.I.E.L.D.” was one of last season’s top gainers in TV Playback in Adults 18-49, jumping over its L+SD rating by +100% in Live + 3 Day and +129% in Live + 7 Day.  In fact it was the No. 2 biggest percentage gainer last season on the major nets in L+7 Adults 18-49, behind only ABC’s “Designated Survivor” (+142%).
  • Saturday
With college football coverage (Clemson at Virginia Tech), ABC won Saturday night for the 5th week in a row in Total Viewers (4.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.5/7), dominating Fox with its college football coverage (2.5 million and 0.7/3) by 92% and 114%, respectively.
  • Airing from 8:07-11:43 p.m., ABC’s “Saturday Night Football” was the evening’s No. 1 program for the 5th consecutive week in Total Viewers (4.6 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.5/7).

  • “Saturday Night Football” grew over the week-ago game by 7% with Adults 18-49 (1.4/7 on 9/23/17).
  • Sunday
“Shark Tank” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 5.1 million and 1.3/5 in AD18-49)
Moving from Friday night for the first time in 7 seasons to Sunday and premiering from 8:00-10:00 p.m. against NBC’s “Sunday Night Football,” ABC’s “Shark Tank” shot up 44% over its May finale (1.3/5 vs. 0.9/4 on 5/12/17) and grew 18% over its year-ago September premiere (1.1/5 on 9/23/16).  In Total Viewers (5.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.3/5), the ABC unscripted series delivered its best numbers since March – since 3/3/17.
“Ten Days in the Valley (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 3.4 million and 0.5/2 in AD18-49)
At 10:00 p.m., ABC’s series debut of “Ten Days in the Valley” opened above the last two ABC dramas to air in the time period with Total Viewers (3.4 million) and Adults 18-49 (0.5/2), besting the Live + Same Day averages for “American Crime” (1.9 million and 0.4/2 in March-April 2017 ) and “Conviction” (2.4 million and 0.4/2 in January 2017).  In fact, “Ten Days in the Valley” drew ABC’s best results with a 10 o’clock series in the time slot since Fall 2016 with viewers and young adults – since 10/2/16 and 11/27/16, respectively.

‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ Grows to Its Best Non-NBA Finals Week in Over 6 Months
ABC’s ‘Kimmel’ is the Only Late-Night Broadcast Talk Show
to Improve Over Last Year’s Premiere Week in Adults 18-49
‘Kimmel’ Ranks as Monday’s No. 1 Late-Night Talk Show in Adults 18-49
and Builds Over Last Season’s Year-Ago Opening Night by 27%

During the opening week of the new 2017-18 TV season (w/o 9/25/17), ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” jumped over the prior week by 13% in Total Viewers (2.298 million vs. 2.035 million) and 23% among Adults 18-49 (626,000 vs. 509,000) to its best performance since June – since the weeks of 6/5/17 and 6/12/17, respectively. Excluding June’s NBA Finals-led weeks, “Kimmel” posted its strongest week in more than 6 months in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 – since the week of 3/13/17.
                               
“Jimmy Kimmel Live” grew over the year-ago Premiere Week(2.184 million and 592,000 on w/o 9/19/16) by 5% in Total Viewers and 6% in Adults 18-49. In fact, ABC’s “Kimmel” was the only late-night broadcast talk show to improve over the year-ago week among Adults 18-49 (+6%), as NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” declined -29% (808,000 vs. 1.143 million) and CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” was down -6% (658,000 vs. 701,000).
On the first night of the season (Monday, 9/25/17), ABC’s “Kimmel” was the No. 1 late-night talk show among Adults 18-49 (735,000), topping NBC’s “Fallon” by 7% (686,000) and CBS’ “Colbert” by 14% (646,000), while also improving over the year-ago opening night by 27% (579,000 on Monday, 9/19/16). Monday’s show welcomed Viola Davis, Freddie Highmore and musical guest Grizzly Bear.
