“Dancing with the Stars” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 7.6 million and 1.1/4 in AD18-49):
From 8:00-10:00 p.m., “Disney Night” on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” grew week to week in Total Viewers (+10% – 7.6 million vs. 6.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (+22% – 1.1/4 vs. 0.9/4), currently at a season high among young adults. In addition, “DWTS” delivered its nearest finish this season with NBC’s “The Voice” in Adults 18-49 (-0.7 rating points).

‘Kimmel’ Kicks Off Its 4th Time in Brooklyn as Monday’s No. 1 Late-Night Talker

Returning to Brooklyn, New York, for the fourth time during the week of Oct. 15, 2018, ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” grew over the prior week among Adults 18-49 (+2% – 543,000 vs. 534,000) to deliver back-to-back season highs and its strongest performance in just over 4 months since the week of 6/4/18.

Kicking off the week with five original shows starting on Monday (10/15/18), “Kimmel” delivered its 2nd best start yet to a Brooklyn week among Adults 18-49 (660,000), behind only the prior year’s Monday. In addition, ABC’s “Kimmel” was Monday’s No. 1 late-night talk show in Adults 18-49, beating runner-up CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” by 15% (575,000).

During the week, ABC’s “Kimmel” topped CBS’ “Colbert” by 4% among Adults 18-49 (543,000 vs. 524,000).

Opposite NFL-driven competition on Sunday from CBS with a big prime-time overrun (Cowboys-Redskins) carrying through its night and NBC with Sunday Night Football coverage (Bengals-Chiefs), ABC posted week-to-week improvement in each hour from 8:00-11:00 p.m.

  • At 8:00 p.m., ABC’s “DWTS: Juniors” grew from the prior week in Total Viewers (+2% – 4.8 million vs. 4.7 million) and held at its series high set last week with Adults 18-49 (0.8/3).



  • In the 9 o’clock hour, ABC’s “Shark Tank” built for the 2nd straight week, gaining 11% in Total Viewers (4.0 million vs. 3.6 million) and 14% in Adults 18-49 (0.8/3 vs. 0.7/3) to deliver new season highson both counts. In fact, it was the ABC unscripted show’s most-watched telecast since last January, topping its final 4 episodes of last season – since 1/28/18.

  • At 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “The Alec Baldwin Show” grew over its week-ago premiere in the hour by 5% Total Viewers (2.2 million vs. 2.1 million) and by 33% in Adults 18-49 (0.4/2 vs. 0.3/1).

On its 3rd night (Wednesday, 10/17/18) broadcasting from the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Howard Gilman Opera House, ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” grew to its highest-rated telecast of the week among Adults 18-49 (0.6/4) in the 25 LPM Markets, building by 50% over Tuesday (0.4/3) and by 20% over Monday (0.5/4). “Kimmel” grew over the week-ago night by 20% to score its top-rated Wednesday telecast in 9 months (excluding the one NBA Finals-led broadcast in June) – since 1/17/18.

ABC’s “Kimmel” ranked as Wednesday’s No. 1 late-night talk show among Adults 18-49, dominating CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” by 100% (0.3/2) and winning for the 2nd time in 3 nights this week. Wednesday’s “Kimmel” welcomed guests Cardi B, congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and a musical performance by J. Balvin ft. Zion & Lennox.

Up against NBC’s “The Voice”/”This Is Us,” ABC took 2nd place on Tuesday night in Adults 18-49 (1.3/5), beating CBS’ “NCIS”-led drama lineup by 30% (1.0/4) and Fox’s drama lineup by 117% (0.6/3 for “Gifted”/”Lethal Weapon”). ABC’s “The Conners” opened as Tuesday’s No. 1 TV show among Adults 18-49 (2.3/10), beating out NBC’s “The Voice” (1.7/7) and “This Is Us” (2.2/8). 

“The Conners” (8:00-8:30 p.m. – 10.5 million and 2.3/10 in AD18-49):
At 8:00 p.m., ABC’s “The Conners” premiered as TV’s No. 1 series debut this season in viewers (10.5 million) and young adults (2.3/10), topping NBC’s “Manifest” (10.4 million and 2.2/9 on 9/24/18). In fact, it was TV’s most-watched series debut since ABC’s “The Good Doctor” opened last September (on 9/25/17).

  • “The Conners” ranks as ABC’s most-watched comedy series debut in 4 years and best in 3 years with Adults 18-49 – since 9/24/14 and 9/22/15, respectively.



  • “The Conners” grew sharply over the year-ago final season premiere of “The Middle” in the time period last October (6.2 million and 1.6/7 on 10/3/17), improving the half-hour year to year for ABC by 69% in Total Viewers and 44% in Adults 18-49.

“The Kids Are Alright” (8:30-9:00 p.m. – 6.6 million and 1.4/6): 
Taking 2nd among young adults at 8:30 p.m. to the 2nd half-hour of NBC’s “The Voice,” ABC’s debut of “The Kids Are Alright” bested the “Fresh Off the Boat” season finale in the timeslot last March by 83% in viewers (6.6 million vs. 3.6 million) and by 40% in Adults 18-49 (1.4/6 vs. 1.0/4). 

  • “The Kids Are Alright” greatly improved its timeslot for ABC, topping last season’s L+SD average for “Fresh off the Boat” (3.7 million and 1.0/4) in Total Viewers (+78%) and Adults 18-49 (+40%).



“The Rookie” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 5.4 million and 1.0/4 in AD18-49):
Spiking over its lead-in by 1.7 million viewers at 10:00 p.m., “The Rookie” scored ABC’s most-watched drama debut (5.4 million) in the hour in over 7 ½ years and tied as the top-rated with Adults 18-49 (1.0/4) in more than 4 ½ years – since 3/29/11 and 2/25/14, respectivelyIn addition, “The Rookie” delivered ABC’s best results with a drama telecast in the hour since September 2014 in viewers and in 2 years with Adults 18-49 – since 9/30/14 and 9/20/16, respectively.

  • The new ABC drama beat out CBS’ veteran “NCIS: New Orleans” by 25% for No. 2 in the hour among Adults 18-49 and ranked No. 1 with key Men (M18-49/M25-54).

ABC’s “The View” averaged 2.913 million Total Viewers, 444,000 Women 25-54 and 310,000 Women 18-49, during the week of Oct. 8, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “The View” beat CBS’ “The Talk” (2.273 million, 340,000 and 247,000, respectively) during the week in Total Viewers (+640,000), Women 25-54 (+104,000) and Women 18-49 (+63,000). “The View” delivered its largest leads in Total Viewers since April, in Women 25-54 since February and in Women 18-49 since March – since weeks of 4/16/18, 2/12/18 and 3/19/18, respectively, based on original telecasts.

For the 3rd straight week, “The View” widened its Total Viewer lead over “The Talk” versus the year-ago week (+66%; vs. 385,000 for w/o 10/9/17).

“The View” improved on the previous week (w/o 10/1/18) in Total Viewers (4% – 2.913 million vs. 2.794 million) and Women 18-49 (+2% – 310,000 vs. 303,000), seeing its most-watched week in nearly 6 months – since w/o 4/16/18 

For the 5th week in a row, “The View” improved on the same week last year in Total Viewers (+2% – 2.913 million vs. 2.844 million for w/o 10/9/17).

Season to date, “The View” leads CBS’ “The Talk” across the board: Total Viewers (+606,000 – 2.905 million vs. 2.299 million), Women 25-54 (+91,000 – 453,000 vs. 362,000) and Women 18-49(+52,000 – 319,000 vs. 267,000).  In fact, “The View” is increasing its Total Viewer lead over “The Talk” compared to last season (+88% – 606,0000 vs. 322,000) to its largest in 6 years – since the 2012-13 season.

In addition, “The View” is improving compared to the same point last season in Total Viewers (+4% – 2. 905 million vs. 2.804 million) seeing its most-watched season in 4 years – since the 2014-15 season. 

NOTE: Due to pre-emptions for Hurricane Michael coverage on Wednesday (10/10/18), ABC’s “The View” was retitled to “View.” The telecast aired with 74% coverage is excluded from the weekly averages. ABC’s are based on four days (Monday–Tuesday and Thursday-Friday).

ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (1.371 million), Adults 25-54 (484,000), and Adults 18-49 (374,000), during the week of Oct. 8, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. 

“Nightline” posted double-digit increases week to week (1.231 million, 433,000 and 330,000, respectively, for w/o 10/1/18) across the board: Total Viewers (+11%), Adults 25-54 (+12%) and Adults 18-49 (+13%), turning in its strongest numbers in more 4 months – since w/o 6/4/18.

“Nightline” improved on the same week last year in Adults 18-49 (+5% – 374,000 vs. 355,000 – for w/o 10/9/18).

Excluding the 2018 NBA Finals-led broadcasts, “Nightline” turned in its strongest telecasts in Adults 25-54 (572,000 on 10/10/18) and Adult 18-49 (439,000 on 10/9/18) in 6 months – since 4/19/18.

Season to date, “Nightline” is leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+50,000 – 468,000 vs. 418,000) and Adults 18-49 (+37,000 – 355,000 vs. 318,000).

Stories on “Nightline” last week included reports from Florida where Hurricane Michael left destruction, Matthew Shepard‘s parents who reflected on how their son’s murder was pivotal in the gay rights movement, Atlanta rapper T.I. who talked about his career and giving back, the rise of the Instagram playground at Refinery29’s 29Rooms, Taylor Swift urging Americans to vote in the upcoming midterm elections and a look at how Dua Lipa became one of pop music’s biggest breakout stars.

In fact, excluding the NBA Finals-led broadcasts in June, “Kimmel” tied its highest Adult 18-49 rating (0.6/4) on any single night in late-night in more than 7 months – since the Monday, 3/5/18 telecast, following Kimmel’s second turn as host of the Academy Awards®.

In fact, “Kimmel” scored 4-month highs in both Nielsen measures – since the week of 6/4/18. Excluding the two NBA Finals weeks in June, the ABC late-night program delivered its strongest performance since last spring in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 – since the weeks of 3/19/18 and 4/16/18, respectively.

Topping “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on 3 of its 4 original telecasts of the week in Total Viewers, ABC’s “Kimmel” virtually tied the NBC late-night talk show, with just 104,000 viewers between the two programs (2.234 million vs. 2.338 million).

On Tuesday, “Kimmel” was the No. 1 late-night talk show, beating “Fallon” by 14% in Total Viewers (2.652 million vs. 2.335 million) and by 3% with Adults 18-49 (739,000 vs. 718,000). Tuesday’s airing of “Kimmel” (10/9/18) marked the show’s strongest single telecast on any night since April (excluding June’s NBA Finals-led broadcasts) in Total Viewers (2.652 million) and Adults 18-49 (739,000) – since Thursday, 4/19/18, and Tuesday, 4/3/18, respectively.

  • At 8:00 p.m. opposite competition from the start of NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” (Chiefs-Patriots), ABC’s “DWTS: Juniors” retained 100% of its week-earlier 2-hour debut telecast in Adults 18-49 (0.7/3). 



  • Shifting back an hour into its regular 9:00 p.m. slot against AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” ABC’s “Shark Tank” grew by double digits from the prior week’s season opener at 10:00 p.m. by 23% in Total Viewers (3.7 million vs. 3.0 million) and 17% in Adults 18-49 (0.7/3 vs. 0.6/2).

  • At 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “The Alec Baldwin Show” premiere held even with the year-ago episode of the drama “Ten Days in the Valley” in the hour among Adults 18-49 (0.4/1).

ABC News’ “Nightline” averaged 1.231 million Total Viewers, 433,000 Adults 25-54, and 330,000 Adults 18-49, during the week of Oct. 1, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” led CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (420,000 and 320,000, respectively) in Adults 25-54 (+13,000) and Adults 18-49 (+10,000).



On Monday (10/1/18), “Nightline” delivered its most-watched telecast (1.476 million) in nearly 4 months – since 6/8/18.



“Nightline” narrowed its margins from the previous week (w/o 9/24/18) with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in half in Adults 25-54 (-48% – 38,000 vs. 73,000) (-53% – 23,000 vs. 49,000) and Adults 18-49 (-53% – 23,000 vs. 49,000).



“Nightline” cut its Adults 18-49 gap year-to-year (w/o 9/24/18) with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” by 43% (23,000 vs. 40,000).



Two weeks into the season, “Nightline” is leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+34,000 – 451,000 vs. 417,000) and Adults 18-49 (+21,000 – 339,000 vs. 318,000).



Stories reported on Nightline last week included the U.S.’s youngest face transplant recipient Katie Stubblefield; reactions to the aftermath of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s and Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s Senate testimonies from a group of teens; the FBI’s investigation of Brett Kavanaugh and protests in D.C. following the report; supermodel Gisele Bundchen sharing her deeply personal journey to self-acceptance; an interview with Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz and his ex-wife Mashonda Tifrere about co-parenting; a look back at the most memorable moments from Shark Tank; and a report on the death of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.

ABC’s “The View” averaged 2.794 million Total Viewers, 443,000 Women 25-54 and 303,000 Women 18-49, during the week of Oct. 1, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “The View” beat CBS’ “The Talk” (2.301 million, 355,000 and 278,000, respectively) during the week in Total Viewers (+493,000), Women 25-54 (+88,000) and Women 18-49 (+25,000). For the 2nd week in a row,  “The View” more than doubled its Total Viewer lead over the CBS program compared to the same week last year (+137%; vs. 208,000 for w/o 10/2/17).



“The View” widened its Women 25-54 lead over “The Talk” from the previous week (+52% – 88,000 vs. 58,000).  



“The View” was up over the previous week in Women 25-54 (+3% – 443,000 vs. 430,000 for w/o 9/24/18). 



For the 4th straight week, “The View” improved on the same week last year in Total Viewers (+4% – 2.794 million vs. 2.698 million for w/o 10/2/17).

‘GMA’ Narrows Its Margins Versus Previous Week With ‘Today’ in Both Adults 25-54 (-16%) and Adults 18-49 (-21%) to Its Closest Performances in 8 Weeks 



Season to Date, ‘GMA’ Is the No. 1 Morning Show in Total Viewers for the 7th Consecutive Year


“Good Morning America” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers 
(4.085 million) for the week of Oct. 1, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “GMA” beat “Today” (3.858 million) by 227,000, more than doubling its lead from the previous week (+114%; vs. 106,000 for w/o 9/24/18) to its largest in over 3 months – since w/o 6/25/18.


“GMA” posted week-to-week gains (3.925 million, 1.188 million and 852,000, respectively, for w/o 9/24/18) in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+4%), Adults 25-54 (+2%) and Adults 18-49 (+5%).


“GMA” narrowed its margins from the previous week with “Today” in both Adults 25-54 (-16% – 154,000 vs. 183,000) and Adults 18-49 (-21% – 75,000 vs. 95,000) to its closest performances in 8 weeks – since w/o 8/6/18.


“GMA” cut its Adults 18-49 gap with “Today” year-to-year by 4% (75,000 vs. 78,000 for w/o 10/2/17).


Two weeks into the new season, “GMA” is the No. 1 morning newscast in Total Viewers, leading “Today” by 170,000 (4.013 million vs. 3.843 million) to take the top spot at this point of the season for the 7th year in a row. In addition, “GMA” is cutting its season margin with “Today” in Adults 18-49 nearly in half (-46% – 85,000 vs. 156,000) to its closest performance in 4 years – since the 2014-15 season.

 
During the week, “GMA” outpaced “CBS This Morning” in Total Viewers (+1.094 million), Adults 25-54 (+452,000) and Adults 18-49 (+324,000).

From 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” grew week-to-week in Total Viewers (+7% – 7.6 million vs. 7.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (+38% – 1.1/4 vs. 0.8/3), currently at a season high with young adults. In fact, “DWTS” marked its closest finish this season with NBC’s “The Voice” in Adults 18-49 (-0.9 rating points).


“The Good Doctor”
(10:00-11:00 p.m. – 7.4 million and 1.2/5 in AD18-49):

Building on its “Dancing” lead-in among young adults at 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “The Good Doctor” narrowed the gap for its closest finish yet with NBC’s “Manifest (coming within 400,000 viewers and 5-tenths in Adults 18-49) and beat out CBS’ “Bull” by a best-yet 1.0 million viewers (7.4 million vs. 6.4 million) and by 71% in young adults (1.2/5 vs. 0.7/3). “The Good Doctor” improved over the prior week (7.2 million and 1.1/5 on 10/1/18) in Total Viewers (+3%) and in Adults 18-49 (+9%), drawing its biggest audience this season.



·       Live + 3 Day Rankings Week 1Based on the first complete week of L+3 data for the new season’s prime-time programming, ABC’s “The Good Doctor” was the 2nd highest gainer on broadcast for premiere week with a +92% spike in Adults 18-49, trailing only the +100% jump by ABC’s “How to Get Away with Murder.” The ABC sophomore drama also added over 5.0 million viewers in its first 3 days of playback for the week’s 2nd biggest increase, behind only NBC’s “Manifest.”

ABC Thursday Prime Time (8:00-11:00 p.m. – 4.9 million and 1.2/5 in AD18-49):
Opposite Fox’s Thursday Night Football (Colts-Patriots), ABC ran in a near tie for the No. 1 entertainment network on Thursday in Adults 18-49 with a “Big Bang”-led CBS (1.2/5 vs. 1.3/5), while holding a 33% advantage over NBC’s lineup on the night (0.9/4). With its TGIT lineup consistently delivering big increases in delayed viewing, ABC will narrow the Adult 18-49 gap on the night with Fox’s NFL coverage and move ahead of CBS in the Live + 7 Day ratings.
                                            

  • At 8:00 p.m., ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” outdelivered CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” to rank as the Thursday’s No. 1 TV show among key females (Women 18-34 and Female Teens 12-17). In its 15th season, “Grey’s” is actually seeing its audience become younger than last season.

  • At 9:00 p.m., ABC’s “Station 19” season premiere opened 10% higher than its season finale in May (1.1/4 vs. 1.0/4 on 5/17/18) and tied its series debut in March among Adults 18-49 (1.1/5 on 3/22/18), which enjoyed a higher-rated lead-in from “Grey’s Anatomy” on that night. In fact, “Station 19” equaled the series’ 2nd highest Adult 18-49 rating ever. In addition, the ABC sophomore drama shot up 33% in Adults 18-34 over its May finale to tie its series high.



  • After becoming the first and only broadcast series of the new season to post triple-digit Live + 3 Day growth, with a +100% spike for its week-earlier premiere from Live + Same Day, ABC’s “How to Get Away with Murder” held even with its season premiere in Live + Same Day Adults 18-49 (0.8/3). In addition, the 10 o’clock ABC drama built by 7% on its premiere with Total Viewers (3.1 million vs. 2.9 million).
