  • “Kimmel” grew over the week-ago night (11/8/18) by 20% with Adults 18-49 to match its highest-rated Thursday telecast in 5 ½ months– since an NBA Finals-led broadcast on 5/31/18. Excluding the one NBA Finals-led telecast in May, “Kimmel” scored its top-rated Thursday night in just over 10 months – since 1/4/18.

ABC’s “The View” averaged 2.874 million Total Viewers, 452,000 Women 25-54 and 320,000 Women 18-49, during the week of Nov. 5, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “The View” turned in increases versus the previous week (2.713 million, 442,000 and 312,000, respectively, for w/o 10/29/18) in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+6%), Women 25-54 (+2%) and Women 18-49 (+3%), posting season highs in both key Women demos with its best numbers in 7 weeks – since w/o 9/17/18. 

“The View” outdelivered CBS’ “The Talk” (2.304 million, 384,000 and 270,000, respectively) during the week in Total Viewers (+570,000), Women 25-54 (+68,000) and Women 18-49 (+50,000). “The View” more than doubled its Total Viewer lead over “The Talk” year to year (+110% – 570,000 vs. 271,000 for w/o 11/6/17).

“The View” widened its advantages over “The Talk” versus the previous week across the board: Total Viewers (+50% – 570,000 vs. 379,000), Women 25-54 (+10% – 68,000 vs. 62,000) and Women 18-49 (+32% – 50,000 vs. 38,000).

Season to date, “The View” leads CBS’ “The Talk” across the board: Total Viewers (+553,000 – 2.857 million vs. 2.304 million), Women 25-54 (+85,000 – 453,000 vs. 368,000) and Women 18-49 (+51,000 – 317,000 vs. 266,000).  In fact, “The View” is increasing its Total Viewer lead over “The Talk” compared to last season (+61% – 553,000 vs. 344,000) to its largest in 6 years – since the 2012-13 season.

NOTE: Due to an ABC News Special Report on Wednesday (11/7/18), ABC’s “The View” was coded as a Breakout and was retitled to “View.” The telecast is excluded from the weekly averages. ABC’s are based on four days (Monday–Tuesday and Thursday–Friday).

ABC News’ “Nightline” averaged 1.281 million Total Viewers, 447,000 Adults 25-54, and 339,000 Adults 18-49, during the week of Nov. 5, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” led CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (406,000 and 306,000, respectively) in Adults 25-54 (+41,000) and Adults 18-49 (+33,000).
“Nightline” posted week-to-week increases (1.253 million, 436,000 and 318,000, respectively, for w/o 10/29/18) across the board: Total Viewers (+2%), Adults 25-54 (+3%) and Adults 18-49 (+7%).

“Nightline” narrowed its Adults 18-49 margin from the previous week with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” (-10% – 43,000 vs. 48,000 for w/o 10/29/18).

Season to date, “Nightline” is leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+58,000 – 469,000 vs. 411,000) and Adults 18-49 (+40,000 – 349,000 vs. 309,000).

Stories on “Nightline” last week included voters speaking out on what issues that matter the most to them, a look at how misinformation campaigns and more threaten to meddle in the election process, the impact of Tuesday night’s midterm election results, the latest developments after a gunman opened fire in a bar in Thousand Oaks, Calif., the resignation of Jeff Sessions as the U.S. attorney general and an inside look into the life of legendary journalist Marie Colvin.

“Dancing with the Stars” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 7.3 million and 0.9/4 in AD18-49):
From 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” improved over the prior week in Total Viewers (+3% – 7.3 million vs. 7.1 million) and held even with Adults 18-49 (0.9/4), marking its most-watched telecast since its season premiere 7 weeks ago – since 9/24/18.

“The Good Doctor” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 6.5 million and 1.0/4 in AD18-49):
ABC’s “The Good Doctor” stood as the most-watched TV series at 10:00 p.m., outdrawing NBC’s “Manifest” for the 2nd week in a row(6.5 million vs. 6.1 million). In addition, “The Good Doctor” came within a best-yet 1-tenth of “Manifest” among Adults 18-49 (1.0/4 vs. 1.1/5). “The Good Doctor” held even week to week in viewers and young adults.

  • Opposite strong competition on broadcast and cable, “Becoming Michelle” boosted its time period by 34% week to week in Total Viewers (5.5 million vs. 4.1 million) to deliver a season high to the hour for ABC and the Net’s largest non-sports audience to the slot in 5 months – since 6/10/18. The special also drove ABC to its most-watched Sunday night this season(4.7 million).

ABC News’ “Nightline” averaged 1.253 million Total Viewers, 436,000 Adults 25-54, and 318,000 Adults 18-49, during the week of Oct. 29, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” led CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (1.246 million, 394,000 and 287,000, respectively) in Total Viewers (+7,000), Adults 25-54 (+42,000) and Adults 18-49 (+31,000).

“Nightline” improved week to week (1.197 million and 425,000, respectively, for w/o 10/22/18) in Total Viewers (+5%) and Adults 25-54 (+3%).

“Nightline” narrowed its margins week to week (w/o 10/22/18) with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in Total Viewers (-44% – 44,000 vs. 79,000) and Adults 18-49 (-14% – 48,000 vs. 56,000).

“Nightline” cut its Adults 18-49 gap year to year (w/o 10/30/17) with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in Adults 18-49 (-44% – 48,000 vs. 86,000).

Season to date, “Nightline” is leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+60,000 – 468,000 vs. 408,000) and Adults 18-49 (+41,000 – 349,000 vs. 308,000).

Broadcasting live on the night of the 2018 Midterm Elections (Tuesday, 11/6/18), ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” grew to 5-month highs in Households (2.3/8) in the 56 Metered Markets and among Adults 18-49 (0.8/5) in the 25 LPM Markets – best since an NBA Finals-led broadcast on Friday, 6/8/18. Excluding June’s NBA Finals-led broadcasts, Tuesday’s live airing marked the highest-rated late-night telecast of “Kimmel” on any night since February 2017 with Adults 18-49 – since the Monday broadcast following Kimmel’s first stint as the host of “The Oscars.”
  • ABC’s “Kimmel” beat CBS’ live broadcast of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” by 33% among Adults 18-49 (0.8/5 vs. 0.6/4).

  Boosted by the Disney special “Mickey’s 90th Spectacular,” ABC grew by double digits week to week in Total Viewers (+15% – 3.9 million vs. 3.4 million) and Adults 18-49 (+33% – 0.8/3 vs. 0.6/2) to deliver a new Sunday season best with young adults.

Airing from 8:00-10:00 p.m. against NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” (Packers-Patriots) and AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” ABC’s broadcast of “Mickey’s 90th Spectacular” drew an average audience of 4.6 million viewers and delivered a 1.0/4 in Adults 18-49. Despite the big competition, “Mickey’s 90th Spectacular” drew ABC’s biggest audience to the time period in 1 month and its highest non-sports Adult 18-49 number in nearly 5 months – since 10/7/18 and 6/10/18, respectively.

For the 2nd week in a row, “The View” improved on the previous week (w/o 10/22/18) in Women 25-54 (+1,000 – 442,000 vs. 441,000) and Women 18-49 (+4,000 – 312,000 vs. 308,000).
Season to date, “The View” leads CBS’ “The Talk” across the board: Total Viewers (+549,000 – 2.846 million vs. 2.297 million), Women 25-54 (+87,000 – 451,000 vs. 364,000) and Women 18-49 (+52,000 – 316,000 vs. 264,000).  In fact, “The View” is increasing its Total Viewer lead over “The Talk” compared to last season (+58% – 549,000 vs. 347,000) to its largest in 6 years – since the 2012-13 season.

ABC News’ “Nightline” averaged 1.253 million Total Viewers, 436,000 Adults 25-54, and 318,000 Adults 18-49, during the week of Oct. 29, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” led CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (1.246 million, 394,000 and 287,000, respectively) in Total Viewers (+7,000), Adults 25-54 (+42,000) and Adults 18-49 (+31,000).

“Nightline” improved week to week (1.197 million and 425,000, respectively, for w/o 10/22/18) in Total Viewers (+5%) and Adults 25-54 (+3%).
“Nightline” narrowed its margins week to week (w/o 10/22/18) with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in Total Viewers (-44% – 44,000 vs. 79,000) and Adults 18-49 (-14% – 48,000 vs. 56,000).
“Nightline” cut its Adults 18-49 gap year to year (w/o 10/30/17) with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in Adults 18-49 (-44% – 48,000 vs. 86,000).

Season to date, “Nightline” is leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+60,000 – 468,000 vs. 408,000) and Adults 18-49 (+41,000 – 349,000 vs. 308,000).
Stories on “Nightline” last week included Brian Kemp and Stacey Abrams who are making their final push in the tight Georgia governor’s race, a group of Wisconsin dairy farmers sharing what issues they’ll be voting for, actor Mark Ruffalo and musician Dave Matthews advocating on behalf of North Dakota’s Native Americans’ right to vote, a former white supremacist about how to weaken hate online in the U.S., an interview with Jamal Khashoggi’s fiancée who shared how she’s calling on Trump and other world leaders to ensure Khashoggi’s death is not covered up, the rabbi inside the Pittsburgh synagogue where a gunman opened fire and a look at Mr. Rogers’ real-life neighborhood.
