Arlington, Va. – November 13, 2018 – Public
Media Distribution, LLC announces the release of Smithsonian Channel’s “THE REAL STORY: MASTER AND
COMMANDER” on DVD December
11. Though it is a work of fiction, few films have
been as meticulously researched as director Peter Weir's maritime masterpiece,
"Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World." The historians and
experts who worked behind the scenes of the film will now share the real story
of how they brought their stunning recreation of the 19th-century seafaring
adventure to the big screen. Viewers experience in vivid detail the brutal
conditions of life at sea, and revealed is the real-life swashbuckling captain
who inspired the Hollywood character "Lucky" Jack Aubrey.
“THE
REAL STORY: MASTER AND COMMANDER” will be available on DVD ($14.99 SRP)
December 11, 2018. The program has a run time of approximately 46 minutes.

of Hollywood's biggest hits, all works of fiction, but all inspired by real
events more dramatic than anything a screenwriter could dream up.
