First, Washington sits down to talk about her life-changing seven-year run as Olivia Pope on ABC’s “Scandal” to currently living in New York with her family as she returns to Broadway in the new play “American Son.” She talks up growing up in New York, her mother’s determination for her to have a great education; her ongoing work with arts education, producing, directing; and who she wants to work with next.
Kennedy joins Baldwin next for a conversation about his iconic family, the subject of his book, “American Values: Lessons I Learned from My Family.” They discuss growing up in the time of “Camelot,” family tragedy, the transformation of his relationship with his mother and his struggle with substance abuse. They talk about his visiting the man accused of shooting his father, a gift his father gave him and what it taught him, thoughts on running for public office, environmental advocacy and his wife, actress Cheryl Hines.
