ABC Tuesday Primetime (8:00-11:00 p.m. – 5.0 million and 1.3/5 in AD18-49):
Leading off ABC’s Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. opposite CBS’ top-rated “NCIS” and NBC’s “The Voice,” “Roseanne” attracted 13.0 million viewers and 3.4/15 in Adults 18-49, standing as the night’s No. 1 TV show for the 4th time in as many telecasts and leading ABC to win the evening for the 4th week running with young adults (1.3/5). ABC’s Tuesday numbers continue to trend up year over year, growing over the year-ago night with an all-original lineup (3.6 million and 1.0/4 on 4/18/17) by 1.4 million viewers and by 30% in Adults 18-49. Please note: “Roseanne” held exactly even with its week-earlier Fast Affiliate Adult 18-49 rating, which adjusted up 1-tenth in the Nationals.
  • On average including delayed viewing, ABC’s “Roseanne” has emerged as the 2017-18 season’s No. 1 TV show in both Total Viewers (23.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (6.7/28).

  • ABC is delivering its longest in-season streak at No. 1 in Adults 18-49 on Tuesday night since November 2003 – since a streak that went from 11/4-11/25/03.
At 8:30 p.m., a special Tuesday airing of “Alex, Inc.” shot up from last week’s regular telecast on Wednesday (4/11/18) by 37% in Total Viewers (4.8 million vs. 3.5 million) and by 33% in Adults 18-49 (1.2/5  vs. 0.9/4) to post the new comedy’s highest numbers yet.
At 9:00 p.m., ABC’s “black-ish” ranked No. 1 in its half-hour with young adults (tie) and delivered double-digit improvementover the year-ago “Fresh Off the Boat” in Total Viewers (+11% – 4.1 million vs. 3.7 million) and Adults 18-49 (+10% – 1.1/4 vs. 1.0/4).
Exhibiting strong lead-in retention from “black-ish” (88%/91%) in the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC’s “Splitting Up Together” more than doubled Fox’s “New Girl” in the half-hour with Total Viewers (+112% – 3.6 million vs. 1.7 million) and beat it by a decisive 67% in Adults 18-49 (1.0/4 vs. 0.6/2). And like its lead-in, the freshman comedy boosted its slot for ABC from the year-ago night by double digits with “Imaginary Mary” in Total Viewers (+13% – 3.6 million vs. 3.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (+11% – 1.0/4 vs. 0.9/3).
At 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “For The People” held exactly even week to week in Adults 18-49 (0.6/2).

ABC Delivers a Net-Leading 4 of the Week’s Top 10 TV Shows in Adults 18-49  

During the week of April 9, 2018, ABC’s ‘Roseanne” stood as the No. 1 TV showin both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, notably topping AMC’s season finale of “The Walking Dead.” ABC aired 6 of the week’s Top 20 TV programs in Adults 18-49, placing a net-leading 4 in the Top 10 and claiming 2 of the Top 3 comedies with “Roseanne” (No. 1) and “The Middle” (No. 3), as the latter trailed only CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory.” 

Weekly Rankings: “Roseanne” – No. 1, “The Middle” – No. 5, “James Comey – An ABC News Exclusive Event Interview” and “Grey’s Anatomy” tied No. 10, “American Idol-MON” – No. 13 and “Modern Family” – No. 19.

  • ABC marked its 7th consecutive week of year-over-year viewership growth, building  on the same week last year (w/o 4/10/17) by 9% in Total Viewers (4.9 million vs. 4.5 million) and by 11% in Adults 18-49 (1.0/4 vs. 0.9/4).

ABC’s ‘The Crossing’ Improves the 10 p.m. Hour by Wide Margins Year to Year

ABC Monday Prime (8:00-11:00 p.m. – 6.0 million and 1.1/4 in AD18-49):
With “American Idol” and “The Crossing,” ABC ran a competitive No. 2 on Monday in Adults 18-49 (1.1/4) to “The Voice”-led NBC, beating all-original lineups on Fox by 38% (0.8/3) and on CBS with the “Scorpion” finale by 57% (0.7/3). 

“American Idol” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 6.9 million and 1.3/5 in AD18-49):
Taking 2nd place from 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC’s “American Idol” came within 4-tenths of NBC’s “The Voice” in Adults 18-49 (1.3/5 vs. 1.7/7), within 1-tenth in Adults 18-34(0.9/4 vs. 1.0/5), while tying the NBC unscripted show for No. 1 on the night with Female Teens 12-17. Please note:  Last Monday’s “Idol” adjusted up 1-tenth in the National numbers, going from a 1.5 in the Fast Affiliate ratings to a 1.6 in the afternoon.

  • For the 6th consecutive week, “American Idol” is the No. 1 most social broadcast series in prime time.



“The Crossing” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 4.2 million and 0.7/3 in AD18-49):
At 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “The Crossing” held steady week to week in Adults 18-49 (0.7/3 vs. 0.8/3). In the Live + 3 Day numbers, last week’s “The Crossing” climbed by 2.0 million viewers over L+SD to draw 6.5 million viewers and jumped 50% in Adults 18-49 to a 1.2 rating.  

  • Continuing to improve its time period, “The Crossing” rose over the year-ago night with “Quantico” by 50% in Total Viewers (4.2 million vs. 2.8 million) and by 40% in Adults 18-49 (0.7/3 vs. 0.5/2).

Boosted by “James Comey – An ABC News Exclusive Event Interview” and competing against CBS’ 3-hour “ACM Awards” broadcast, ABC finished a strong 2nd on Sunday night in Total Viewers (7.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.4/5), posting 5-week highs on the evening – since 3/11/18.

“America’s Funniest Home Videos” (7:00-8:00 p.m. – 6.2 million and 1.2/5 in AD18-49):
Rising over its last original 3 weeks ago by 19% in Total Viewers (6.2 million vs. 5.2 million) and by 33% in Adults 18-49 (1.2/5 vs. 0.9/4), ABC’s “America’s Funniest Home Videos” hit a new season high in Total Viewers and a 3-month high in young adults (since 1/14/18).

“American Idol” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 6.3 million and 1.3/5 in AD18-49):
From 8:00-10:00 p.m. opposite CBS’ annual “ACM Awards” broadcast, ABC’s “American Idol” took 2nd in its 2-hour slot and was the night’s No. 1 broadcast seriesin Adults 18-49 (1.3/5). Despite the stiff competition from CBS’ country music awards show and AMC’s “The Walking Dead” finale, “Idol” improved over the year-ago night with “Once Upon a Time” and “Match Game” by 152% in Total Viewers (6.3 million vs. 2.5 million) and by 86% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/5 vs. 0.7/2). On average season to date, “American Idol” delivers ABC’s best numbers to the 2-hour time period in 4 years in Total Viewers and in 3 years among Adults 18-49 – since 2014 and 2015, respectively.

“James Comey – An ABC News Exclusive Event Interview” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 9.8 million and 2.4/7 in AD18-49):
Building sharply on its “American Idol” lead-in against the final hour of CBS’ “ACM Awards” broadcast at 10:00 p.m., ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos’ “James Comey Interview” drew an average audience of 9.8 million viewers with a 1.7/6 in Adults 18-49 and a 2.4/7 in Adults 25-54.

  • “James Comey – An ABC News Exclusive Event Interview” stands as ABC’s top newsmagazine/interview telecast in 3 years in Total Viewers and in nearly 2 ½ years in Adults 25-54 – since 4/24/15 (Caitlyn Jenner) and 10/30/15 (Leah Remini/Scientology), respectively.



  • Excluding only the Academy Awards®, George Stephanopoulos’ “James Comey Interview” delivered ABC’s biggest numbers to Sunday’s 10 o’clock hour since its record-setting “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” telecast – since 12/31/17.

ABC Thursday Prime (8:00-11:00 p.m. – 5.6 million and 1.2/5 in AD18-49):
For the 2nd week in a row, ABC’s TGIT ran neck-and-neck with a “Big Bang”-led CBS for No. 1 on Thursday night in Adults 18-49 (1.2/5 vs. 1.4/6), while dominating NBC’s lineup by 71% (0.7/3) and Fox’s by 71% (0.7/3).  The Net won the night with Adults 18-34 and among key Women demos (W18-34/W18-49).  Driven by strong delayed viewing for its TGIT dramas, ABC is projected to move ahead and win Thursday night once Live + 7 Day Adult 18-49 ratings become available

  • Despite still facing college Spring Break in many parts of the country, all 3 of ABC’s TGIT dramas added viewers week to week, with “Grey’s Anatomy” up 1% (6.9 million vs. 6.8 million), “Station 19” climbing 10% (5.6 million vs. 5.1 million) and “Scandal” rising 11% (4.2 million vs 3.8 million). In fact, “Station 19” drew the series’ 2nd largest audience yet and the penultimate episode of “Scandal” was up for the 2nd straight week to its biggest audience in its new 10:00 p.m. slot.

ABC won its 3rd consecutive Tuesday with Adults 18-49 by 36% over runner-up NBC (1.5/6 vs. 1.1/4), giving the Net its longest in-season winning streak on the night in more than 11 years – since winning 10/3-10/17/06. ABC’s “Roseanne,” “The Middle” and “black-ish” stood as Tuesday’s Top 3 TV showsin Adults 18-49, as ABC’s Tuesday comedy block once again won all 4 of its half-hoursfrom 8:00-10:00 p.m. ABC’s Tuesday improved from the year-ago evening’s all-original schedule by 50% in Adults 18-49 (1.5/6 vs. 1.0/4 on 4/11/17).   

  • Dominating its 8:00 p.m. slot and ranking as the night’s No. 1 TV show for the 3rd week in a row in Total Viewers (13.5 million) and Adults 18-49 (3.4/15), “Roseanne” has now delivered 3 of the Top 4 highest-rated Tuesday series telecast this season with young adults. In fact, among regular-scripted telecasts this season in Adults 18-49, last night’s telecast beats everything except the season premieres of NBC’s “This Is Us” and CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” and “Young Sheldon.”



  • At 8:30 p.m., ABC’s “The Middle” won its half-hour by 36% over NBC’s “The Voice” (1.9/8 vs. 1.4/5). Coming off last week’s highs, “The Middle” turned around and delivered its 2nd strongest numbers since early 2016 in Total Viewers (7.5 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.9/8) – since January 2016 and February 2016, respectively.

  • At 9:00 p.m., ABC’s “black-ish” held steady week to week and boosted its slot by strong double digits from the year-ago night with “Fresh Off the Boat” in Total Viewers (+38% – 5.1 million vs. 3.7 million) and Adults 18-49 (+27% – 1.4/5 vs. 1.1/4).



  • Continuing to deliver solid lead-in retention from “black-ish” (82%/86%) in the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC’s “Splitting Up Together” more than doubled Fox’s final season premiere of “New Girl” in the half-hour in Total Viewers (+110% – 4.2 million vs. 2.0 million) and beat it by a resounding 71% in Adults 18-49 (1.2/4 vs. 0.7/3). The freshman comedy improved its half-hour for ABC from the year-ago night with “Imaginary Mary” by 35% in Total Viewers (4.2 million vs. 3.1 million) and by 50% in Adults 18-49 (1.2/4 vs. 0.8/3).

  • At 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “For The People” improved over “S.H.I.E.L.D.” in the hour on the same night last year by 17% in viewers (2.7 million vs. 2.3 million).

‘Nightline’ Slashes Nearly All of Its Year-to-Year Gaps With NBC’s ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49

Season to Date, ‘Nightline’ Leads CBS’ ‘The Late Late Show With James Corden’ in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49

ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (1.340 million), during the week of April 2, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” outdelivered CBS’ “The Late Late Show-JC-ENC” (1.061 million) by 279,000 and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” (1.297 million) by 43,000.

“Nightline” improved on the previous week (1.255 million, 472,000 and 352,000, respectively, for w/o 3/26/18) in Total Viewers (+7%), Adults 25-54 (+8%) and Adults 18-49 (+11%).

For the 3rd time in the last 4 weeks, “Nightline” posted gains year to year (1.264 million, 489,000 and 361,000, respectively, for w/o 4/3/17) across the board: Total Viewers (+6%), Adults 25-54 (+5%) and Adults 18-49 (+8%).

“Nightline” slashed nearly all of its year-to-year gaps with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in Adults 25-54 (-91% – 9,000 vs. 97,000) and Adults 18-49 (-89% – 11,000 vs. 104,000).

Season to date, “Nightline” is beating CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” across the board: Total Viewers (+7,000 – 1.419 million vs. 1.412 million), Adults 25-54 (+27,000 – 521,000 vs. 494,000) and Adults 18-49 (+28,000 – 395,000 vs. 367,000). 

Stories on “Nightline” last week included the rescue of Jesse Hernandez who fell through a wooden plank and washed away into a network of drainage pipes in Los Angeles; a feature on how a figure skating program is helping young women of color fight discrimination; interviews with three cancer survivors suing an Ohio fertility clinic after a storage malfunction compromised more than 4,000 eggs and embryos; what was said to so-called “affluenza teen” Ethan Couch the day before his release; a deeper look into the life of Martin Luther King Jr. 50 years after his death; and an analysis on what happened before a female suspect carried out her attack on YouTube’s campus.

NOTE: For the week, CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” was retitled to “The Late Late Show –JC-ENC.” The telecasts are excluded from the season averages.

ABC Repeats With a Network-Leading 9 of the Top 20 TV Shows in Adults 18-49  

ABC won its 2nd consecutive week among Adults 18-49 (1.1/5 – w/o 4/2/18), finishing No. 1 during primetime for the 4th time in the past 6 weeks

  • The Network delivered its 6th straight week of year-over-year viewership growth. ABC was also once again the most improved broadcaster on both measures, growing from the year-ago week (w/o 4/3/17) by 9% in Total Viewers (4.8 million vs. 4.4 million) and by 10% in Adults 18-49 (1.1/5 vs. 1.0/4).



For the 2nd week running, ABC aired a network-leading 9 of the week’s Top 20 TV programs in Adults 18-49. The Net also claimed 2 of the Top 3 comedies with “Roseanne” repeating at No. 1 and “The Middle” coming in at No. 3, just 2-tenths shy of catching CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” for No. 2.  Rankings: “Roseanne” – No. 2, “The Middle” – No. 5, “Grey’s Anatomy” – No. 10, “American Idol-SUN,” “Modern Family” and “black-ish” tied at – No. 12, while “American Idol-MON,” “Splitting Up Together” and “The Goldbergs” tied at No. 17. ABC’s “Roseanne” stood as the most watched TV show for the 2nd week in a row.

ABC’s ‘The Crossing’ Holds Solid Retention of Its Debut and Improves Its Hour

ABC Monday Prime (8:00-11:00 p.m. – 6.6 million and 1.3/5 in AD18-49):
With “American Idol” and “The Crossing,” ABC finished a competitive 2nd on Monday in Adults 18-49 (1.3/5) to “The Voice”-led NBC, holding a 38% advantage over CBS’ all-original lineup (0.8/3). ABC and NBC tied for No. 1 on Monday in Adults 18-34, while ABC took the broadcast lead with Teens 12-17.

“American Idol” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 7.6 million and 1.5/6 in AD18-49):
Taking 2nd place from 8:00-10:00 p.m. opposite NBC’s “The Voice,” ABC’s “American Idol” grew week to week by 6% in Total Viewers (7.6 million vs. 7.2 million) and by 7% in Adults 18-49 (1.5/6 vs. 1.4/5). ABC’s “Idol” narrowed the gap with NBC’s “The Voice” to 4-tenths in Adults 18-49, tied the NBC unscripted show in Women 18-34 and beat it in Teens 12-17 to rank as the night’s No. 1 broadcast show on the latter measure.

  • For the 5th consecutive week, ABC’s “American Idol” stood as the No. 1 primetime broadcast on social on Sunday and Monday nights, according to Nielsen Social Content Ratings. 



“The Crossing” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 4.5 million and 0.8/3 in AD18-49):
At 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “The Crossing” delivered solid retention of its week-earlier series debut and continued to improve its time period, rising over the year-ago night with “Quantico” by 73% in Total Viewers (4.5 million vs. 2.6 million) and by 33% in Adults 18-49 (0.8/3 vs. 0.6/2). 

  • “The Crossing” was last Monday’s biggest gainer in Live + 3 Day numbers with last week’s debut telecast emerging as Monday’s No. 1 scripted showin Total Viewers (7.58 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.4 rating). In addition, the new ABC drama moved out of a tie with NBC’s “The Voice” led-“Good Girls” at 10:00 p.m. in L+SD to lead by 17% among Adults 18-49 in L+3 (1.4/5 vs. 1.2/5), while increasing its advantage over the NBC freshman drama in Total Viewers to 2.34 million (7.58 million vs. 5.24 million) compared to a 1.36 million lead in L+SD.

‘Deception’ Beats Its 10 p.m. Drama Competition and Boosts Its Hour Year to Year

ABC Sunday Primetime (7-11pm – 5.8 million and 1.1/5 in AD18-49)
ABC took the broadcast lead on Sunday in Adults 18-49 (1.1/5), beating CBS by 11% (1.0/4), NBC by 57% (0.7/3) and Fox by 57% (0.7/3). ABC’s “American Idol” stood as Sunday’s No. 1 entertainment show in Adults 18-49 and “Deception” won the 10 o’clock hourover its NBC and CBS drama competition.
              
“American Idol” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 7.2 million and 1.5/6 in AD18-49):
Shooting up from its lead-in by 88% at 8:00 p.m., ABC’s “American Idol” topped its 2-hour time slot in Adults 18-49 (1.5/6), beating all-original competition on CBS (“Instinct”/”NCIS: LA”), NBC (“Little Big Shots”/”Genius Junior”) and Fox (“The Simpsons”/”Brooklyn Nine-Nine”/”Family Guy”/”The Last Man on Earth”). The ABC unscripted series also ranked No. 1 in the time period with Adults 18-34 (1.0/5) and Adults 25-54 (2.0/6).

  • For its 5th consecutive telecast on the night, ABC’s “American Idol” more than doubled its 2-hour Sunday time slot year to year, rising over the year-ago night with “Once Upon a Time” and “Match Game” by 157% in Total Viewers (7.2 million vs. 2.8 million) and by 114% in Adults 18-49 (1.5/6 vs. 0.7/3). On average season to date, “American Idol” delivers ABC’s best numbers to the 2-hour time period in 4 years in Total Viewers and in 3 years among Adults 18-49 – since 2014 and 2015, respectively.



“Deception” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 3.7 million and 0.7/3 in AD18-49):
In the 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s “Deception” ranked No. 1 in Adults 18-49 (0.7/3) over its drama competition, beating NBC’s “Timeless” by 17% (0.6/2) and CBS’ “Madam Secretary” by 17% (0.6/2). 

  • “Deception” boosted its time slot for ABC by wide margins from the same night last year with “American Crime,” improving the hour by 2.0 million viewers (3.7 million vs. 1.7 million) and 75% in Adults 18-49 (0.7/3 vs. 0.4/1).

ABC Thursday Prime (8:00-11:00 p.m. – 5.2 million and 1.2/5 in AD18-49):
ABC’s TGIT lineup ran neck-and-neck with a “Big Bang”-led CBS for No. 1 on Thursday in Adults 18-49 (1.2/5 vs. 1.3/6) and beat out NBC by 50% (0.8/3) and Fox by 71% (0.7/3). With strong delayed viewing for its Thursday dramas, ABC is projected to move ahead and win Thursday night, once Live + 7 Day Adult 18-49 ratings become available

  • At 8:00 p.m., ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” took second in its hour with Adults 18-49 (1.6/7) against CBS’ top-rated comedies (“The Big Bang Theory”/”Young Sheldon”) and took 1st place in the hour by 20% in Adults 18-34, finishing as Thursday’s No. 1 TV show with the younger segment of the key sales demo. “Grey’s” held even with its week-earlier Fast Affiliate young adult delivery.



  • Continuing to deliver solid retention out of “Grey’s” at 9:00 p.m., ABC’s “Station 19” nearly tied CBS’ comedies for No. 1 in its hour in Adults 18-49 (1.0/4 vs. 1.1/5 – “Mom”/”Life in Pieces”), while holding a wide advantage over NBC’s comedies (+42% – 0.7/3 for “Will & Grace” finale/”Champions”). The new ABC drama ranked No. 1 in the hour with Adults 18-34 (tie) and key Women (W18-34/W18-49).

  • On its second week at 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “Scandal” grew over the prior week by 5% in Total Viewers (3.9 million vs. 3.7 million) and by 13% in Adults 18-49 (0.9/4 vs. 0.8/4). “Scandal” delivered double-digit improvement to the hour for ABC from the same night last year (3.4 million and 0.7/3 for “The Catch” on 4/6/17) in Total Viewers (+15%) and Adults 18-49 (+29%).

With “Roseanne” shifting back to a half-hour format at 8:00 p.m. (from its 1-hour premiere) and boosting “The Middle” to new season highs at 8:30 p.m., ABC won its 2nd straight Tuesday with Adults 18-49, leading runners-up NBC and CBS by 50% each (1.8/7 vs. 1.2/5-tied). ABC’s “Roseanne” and “The Middle” stood as Tuesday’s Top 2 TV shows in Adults 18-49, as ABC’s Tuesday comedy block won all 4 of its half-hoursfrom 8:00-10:00 p.m. ABC’s Tuesday night ranking jumped from 4th to 1st place year to year, improving from the year-ago evening’s all-original schedule by 80% in Adults 18-49 (1.8/7 vs. 1.0/4 on 4/4/17).   

  • Dominating the first half-hours of NBC’s “The Voice” and CBS’ “NCIS“ to lead off ABC’s night at 8:00 p.m., “Roseanne” changed from a 1-hour format for the premiere to a 30 minute duration on Week 2 and marked its 2nd straight week as Tuesday’s No. 1 TV show in Total Viewers (15.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (3.9/16).
    • Isolating its Fast Affiliate delivery in the 8:00 p.m. half-hour the prior week (17.7 million and 4.9/21), “Roseanne” delivered strong retention in its time period with Total Viewers (85%) and Adults 18-49 (80%). For perspective earlier in the season, NBC’s “Will & Grace” reboot held a lesser 70% in Total Viewers and 67% in Adults 18-49 from Week 1 to Week 2.
    • Last night’s “Roseanne” posted the highest Adult 18-49 rating for any non-premiere comedy telecast since December 2015– since 12/17/15 with CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory.” 



  • At 8:30 p.m., ABC’s “The Middle” shot up from its last telecast two weeks ago by 43% in Total Viewers (8.3 million vs. 5.8 million) and by 57% in Adults 18-49 (2.2/8 vs. 1.4/6) to deliver new season highs. “The Middle” scored its highest numbers since January 2015 – since 1/7/15. In addition, the ABC comedy was up from its year-ago telecast on the evening (at 8:00 p.m.) by 54% in Total Viewers and by 57% in Adults 18-49 (5.4 million and 1.4/6 on 4/4/17).

  • At 9:00 p.m., after last week’s best performance since 2014, ABC’s “black-ish” came back with its 2nd highest numbers since early 2017 in Total Viewers (5.4 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.5/6) – since 1/11/17 and 2/22/17, respectively. “black-ish” topped its year-ago Wednesday telecast out of “Modern Family” (4.6 million and 1.3/5 on 4/5/17) by double digits in Total Viewers (+17%) and Adults 18-49 (+15%).



  • Exhibiting strong lead-in retention out of “black-ish” (89%/93%) in the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC’s “Splitting Up Together” improved its half-hour for ABC from the year-ago night with the time slot premiere of “Imaginary Mary” by 41% in Total Viewers (4.8 million vs. 3.5 million) and by 56%  in Adults 18-49 (1.4/5 vs. 0.9/3).

  • At 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “For the People” held steady week to week in Adults 18-49 (0.8/3 vs. 0.9/4), matching its 2nd highest number yet. In addition, “For the People” improved over “S.H.I.E.L.D.” in the hour on the same night last year by 33% in viewers (2.8 million vs. 2.2 million) and by 14% in young adults (0.8/3 vs. 0.7/3).

1st Quarter 2018:

ABC’s “The View” delivered 3.050 million Total Viewers, 513,000 Women 25-54 and 361,000 Women 18-49 during the 1st Quarter 2018, based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research. “The View” led CBS’ “The Talk” (2.642 million, 422,000 and 291,000, respectively) across the board during the quarter:  Total Viewers (+408,000), Women 25-54 (+91,000) and Women 18-49 (+70,000).  

In fact, “The View” turned in its largest quarter margins over “The Talk” in over three years in Total Viewers and Women 18-49 – since 2Q14.

In addition, “The View” scored in its biggest Women 25-54 advantage during a 1st quarter in 6 years and largest margin of victory in Total and Women 18-49 in 5 years – since 1Q12 and 1Q13, respectively.

For the 2nd quarter in a row, “The View” improved on the previous quarter (2.865 million, 501,000 and 338,000, respectively, on 4Q17) across the board: Total Viewers (+6%), Women 25-54 (+2%) and Women 18-49(+7%).  In fact, “The View“ drew its largest quarter audience in over three years – since 2Q14.

For the 2nd straight quarter, “The View” increased its Total Viewer audience from the year-ago quarter (+4% – 3.050 million vs. 2.942), delivered its most-watched 1st quarter in 4 years – 1Q14.   


Week of March 26, 2018:

ABC’s “The View” averaged 2.803 million Total Viewers, 459,000 Women 25-54 and 312,000 Women 18-49, during the week of March 26, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “The View” beat CBS’ “The Talk” (2.479 million, 413,000 and 290,000, respectively) during the week in Total Viewers (+324,000), Women 25-54 (+46,000) and Women 18-49 (+22,000).

“The View” posted increases year to year in Total Viewers (+2% – 2.803 million vs. 2.757 million).

“The View” widened its advantages over “The Talk” in Total Viewers both week to week (+16% – 324,000 vs. 280,000) and year to year (+28% – 324,000 vs. 254,000).

Season to date, “The View” is posting gains compared to the same point last season in Total Viewers (+1% – 2.956 million vs. 2.913 million), marking its most-watched season in 4 years – since the 2013-14 season. 

In addition, “The View” leads CBS’ “The Talk” across the board, increasing its advantages from the same point last season in Total Viewers (353,000 vs. 183,000), Women 25-54 (101,000 vs. 62,000) and Women 18-49 (68,000 vs. 63,000). In fact, “The View” is posting its largest season leads over the CBS program in Total Viewers and Women 25-54 in 5 years – since the 2012-13 season.

1st Quarter 2018:

ABC News’ “Nightline” drew 1.410 million Total Viewers, 522,000 Adults 25-54and 396,000 Adults 18-49 during the 1st Quarter 2018, based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” beat CBS’ “The Late Late Show” (1.352 million, 459,000 and 335,000, respectively) across the board: Total Viewers (+58,000), Adults 25-54 (+63,000) and Adults 18-49 (+61,000), posting its largest 1st quarter lead in Adults 18-49 in 3 years – since 1Q15.

For the 2nd quarter in a row, “Nightline” improved on the previous quarter (4Q17) in Adults 25-54 (522,000 vs. 521,000) and Adults 18-49 (396,000 vs. 393,000).

“Nightline” narrowed its quarter-to-quarter margins with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in Adults 25-54 (+1% – 130,000 vs. 131,000) and Adults 18-49 (+14% – 113,000 vs. 132,000).


Week of March 26, 2018:

 ABC News’ “Nightline” averaged 1.255 million Total Viewers, 472,000 Adults 25-54 and 352,000 Adults 18-49, during the week of March 26, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” defeated CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (410,000 and 304,000, respectively) in Adults 25-54 (+62,000) and Adults 18-49 (+48,000).

Season to date, “Nightline” is beating CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” across the board: Total Viewers (+9,000 – 1.420 million vs. 1.411 million), Adults 25-54 (+27,000 – 521,000 vs. 494,000) and Adults 18-49 (+28,000 – 395,000 vs. 367,000). 

Stories on “Nightline” last week included a visit to war-torn Yemen which has left nearly three million homeless and 22 million in need of humanitarian aid; interviews with Marjory Stoneman Douglas students as they rallied for gun reform in the March for Our Lives; the latest developments at Schlitterbahn Waterparks and Resorts where three men were charged for the death of a 10-year-old boy; a report on the ongoing protests that followed the killing of Stephon Clark by Sacramento police; and an interview with serial entrepreneur and social influencer Gary Vaynerchuk.

Up against the highly rated NCAA Basketball Championship on TBS, ABC’s “American Idol” ranked as Monday’s No. 2 TV series among Adults 18-49 to NBC’s “The Voice,” and, at 10:00 p.m., ABC’s debut of “The Crossing” moved ahead of NBC’s “Good Girls” to rank No. 1 in the 10 o’clock hour

“American Idol” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 7.1 million and 1.4/5 in AD18-49):
From 8:00-10:00 p.m. opposite NBC’s “The Voice,” ABC’s “American Idol” took 2nd place among the broadcasters in its 2-hour time period with Total Viewers (7.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.4/5).  “Idol” tied “The Voice” as Monday’s No. 1 broadcast show with Teens 12-17.

“The Crossing” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 5.4 million and 1.0/4 in AD18-49):
At 10:00 p.m., ABC’s debut of “The Crossing” moved up to the No. 1 broadcast position, beating NBC’s “Good Girls” by 1.1 million viewers (5.4 million vs. 4.3 million) and by 11% in Adults 18-49 (1.0/4 vs. 0.9/3). “The Crossing” greatly improved its hour for ABCfrom the same night last year (4/3/17) with “Quantico,” spiking by 80% in Total Viewers (5.4 million vs. 3.0 million) and by 67% in Adults 18-49 (1.0/4 vs. 0.6/2). Excluding only “The Good Doctor” this past September (on 9/25/17), “The Crossing” represented ABC’s most-watched debut in Monday’s 10:00 p.m. hour in close to 3 years – since 6/1/15 with “The Whispers.”

ABC Wins the Week in Adults 18-49, Spiking 44% Year to Year as Most Improved

ABC Airs a Network-Leading 9 of the Top 20 TV Shows with the Top 2 Comedies

Boosted by the strong return for “Roseanne” driving a big Tuesday night victory, the first season finale of “The Good Doctor” and continued solid returns from “American Idol,” ABC won the week by 30% in Adults 18-49over runner-up NBC (1.3/6 vs. 1.0/4 – w/o 3/26/18). It was ABC’s 3rd time in 5 weeks to finish No. 1 in the weekly Adult 18-49 race. 

  • Marking its 5th straight week of year-to-year viewership growth, ABC’s primetime numbers remained the most improved from the same week last year (w/o 3/27/17) among the broadcasters, building by 34% in Total Viewers (5.9 million vs. 4.4 million) and by 44% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/5 vs. 0.9/4).



Rankings:  ABC delivered a network-leading 9 of the week’s Top 20 TV programs in Adults 18-49, landing 3 in the Top 10 and claiming TV’s Top 2 comedies with “Roseanne” and “black-ish:” “Roseanne” – No. 1, “black-ish” – No. 5, “Splitting Up Together” – No. 8, “Grey’s Anatomy” – No. 12, while “The Good Doctor” and “American Idol-MON” tied at No. 13, “American Idol-SUN” – No. 18, while “The Goldbergs” and “Modern Family” tied at No. 20. ABC’s return of “Roseanne” stood as the week’s No. 1 TV show in both Total  Viewers and Adults 18-49.

ABC’s ‘Idol’ Jumps 20% in Adults 18-34 Against NBC’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’

ABC’s ‘Deception’ Builds 14% to Draw its Largest Audience Since Its Debut

“American Idol” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 7.4 million and 1.6/6 in AD18-49):
Doubling its lead-in at 8:00 p.m. (+100%) against NBC’s musical special “Jesus Christ Superstar” and gaining from its first to second hour, ABC’s “American Idol” ranked as Sunday’s No. 1 broadcast series and held steady week to week despite the heightened NBC competition in Adults 18-49 (1.6/6 vs. 1.7/6). In addition, “Idol” grew by double digits week to week in Adults 18-34 (+20%), Women 18-34 (+17%) and Men 18-34 (+11%).

  • For the 4th time in as many telecasts, ABC’s “American Idol” produced triple-digit improvement in the 2-hour time period year to year, above the year-ago night with “Once Upon a Time” and the premiere of “Match Game” by 185% in Total Viewers (7.4 million vs. 2.6 million) and by 129% in Adults 18-49 (1.6/6 vs. 0.7/2).



“Deception” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 4.2 million and 0.8/3 in AD18-49):
In the 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s “Deception” grew week to week by 8% in Total Viewers (4.2 million vs. 3.9 million) and by 14% in Adults 18-49 (0.8/3 vs. 0.7/3), drawing its largest audience since its series debut – since 3/11/18.  ABC’s “Deception” beat CBS’ “Madam Secretary” in the hour by 60% with young adults (0.8/3 vs. 0.5/2). 

  • “Deception” greatly improved its hour for ABC from the same night last year with “American Crime,” rising by 2.4 million viewers (4.2 million vs. 1.8 million) and 100% in Adults 18-49 (0.8/3 vs. 0.4/1).
