ABC’s ‘Holey Moley’ Repeats as Thursday’s No. 1 TV Series in Adults 18-49

ABC’s ‘Family Food Fight’ Holds 100% of Its Debut to Tie Fox’s ‘Spin the Wheel’

ABC Thursday Prime Time (8:00-11:00 p.m.—2.9 million and 0.6/3 in AD18-49):
Up against NBC’s second night of live Democratic Debate coverage, ABC delivered Thursday’s No. 1 TV series for the 2nd week in a row with the hit mini-golf competition “Holey Moley” in Adults 18-49 (0.9/5), which increased its advantage over Fox’s “Spin the Wheel” to 50% this week (0.6/3 from 9:00-10:00 p.m.), up from 25% last week. In fact from 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC’s “Summer Fun & Games” beat Fox’s Thursday unscripted lineup by 14% (0.8/4 vs. 0.7/3).  

  • Leading off the night at 8:00 p.m., ABC’s self-starter “Holey Moley” held steady with its week-earlier debut and beat out Fox’s “MasterChef” to win the hour by 29% in Adults 18-49 (0.9/5 vs. 0.7/4). In addition, “Holey Moley” nearly doubled its time period for ABC year to year in Adults 18-49 (+80% over the year-ago “The Gong Show” at 0.5/3).



  • At 9:00 p.m. against the start of the debate on the East Coast, ABC’s “Family Food Fight” retained 100% of its week-ago series debut in Adults 18-49 and tied Fox’s “Spin the Wheel” for the entertainment lead in the hour (0.6/3), after trailing the new Fox game show by 2-tenths the prior week.

‘Nightline’ Slashes Its Margins With NBC’s ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ Year Over Year in Total Viewers and Adults 25–54

Season to Date, ‘Nightline’ Leads CBS’ ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden’ in Adults 25–54 and Adults 18–49

ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in Adults 18-49 (289,000) for the 4th week in a row during the week of June 17, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.  “Nightline” led CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (224,000) by 65,000 and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” (280,000) by 9,000.

“Nightline” slashed its margins from the same week last year (w/o 6/18/18) with NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in Total Viewers (-59% – 29,000 vs. 71,000) and Adults 25-54 (-92% – 9,000 vs. 119,000).

Season to date, “Nightline” is leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+35,000 – 446,000 vs. 411,000) and Adults 18-49 (+30,000 – 330,000 vs. 300,000).

Stories reported on Nightline last week included an exclusive interview with a teenage shark attack survivor, the dark side of exotic wildlife held captive for tourist encounters, Ramy Youssef breaking the glass ceiling for the Muslim community, a behind-the-scenes look at “The Handmaids Tale,” Nik and Lijana Wallenda’s Times Square highwire walk training, OJ Simpson joining Twitter and an interview with Zion Williamson ahead of the NBA draft.

ABC News’ “Nightline” is late-night television‘s prestigious, award-winning news program featuring the most powerful, in-depth stories that shape our lives and the world around us. ABC’s ‘The Bachelorette’ Hits Season Highs and Ranks as Monday’s No. 1 Show

ABC Monday Prime Time (8:00-11:00 p.m. – 4.8 million and 1.2/6 in AD18-49):
ABC’s Monday lineup of “The Bachelorette” and “Grand Hotel” won the night by wide margins for the 2nd week in a row among Adults 18-49 (1.2/6), outdelivering original schedules on NBC by 50% (0.8/4 for “American Ninja Warrior”/”Dateline”) and on Fox by 140% (0.5/3 for “Beat Shazam”/”So You Think You Can Dance”). ABC was also Monday’s most-watched TV network overall for the 2nd week running. (4.8 million).

  • Airing from 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC’s “The Bachelorette” repeated as Monday’s No. 1 program in Total Viewers (5.6 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.5/7), finishing as the night’s top-rated TV series for its 6th consecutive telecastamong young adults. “The Bachelorette” edged up week to week in Total Viewers (+2%) and held even in Adults 18-49, marking its most-watched telecast overall this season and equaling its high with young adults. In addition, “The Bachelorette” improved from the comparable seventh telecast of last season (on 7/9/18) among Adults 18-49 (+7% – 1.5/7 vs. 1.4/6).



  • In the 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s “Grand Hotel” held steady with its week-earlier debut among Adults 18-49 (0.7/3 vs. 0.6/3). The new ABC drama ranked No. 1 in its hour with Adults 18-34 and across all key Women demos (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54). After just 3 days of delayed viewing, last week’s debut of “Grand Hotel” grew to 5.1 million Total Viewers and a 0.9/5 in Adults 18-49, up from 3.7 million and a 0.7/3 in Live + Same Day.

ABC Sunday Prime Time (7:00-11:00 p.m. – 4.4 million and 0.7/4 in AD18-49):
Boosted by “Highwire Live in Times Square with Nik Wallenda” from 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC won Sunday night by 40% over its nearest competition with Adults 18-49 (0.7/4 vs. 0.5/3 – NBC). Prior to the “Highwire Live” special from 7:00-8:00 p.m., ABC aired a repeat of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” and followed the special at 10:00 p.m. with an encore airing of the new game show “Holey Moley,” which had an impressive opening on Thursday night and exposed more viewers to its series debut (see below).      

  • Jumping over on its lead-in at 8:00 p.m. (+33%/+60%) and building audience throughout its broadcast, ABC’s “Highwire Live in Times Square with Nik Wallenda” won its 2-hour time period in viewers (5.2 million) and young adults (0.8/4), standing as Sunday’s No. 1 TV show among Adults 18-49. “Highwire Live” built steadily throughout its telecast, surging by 3.1 million viewers (4.1 million to 7.2 million) and by 83% in Adults 18-49 (0.6/3 to 1.1/5) from its first to final half-hour.  



  • At 10:00 p.m., coming off its strong start in its regular 8:00 p.m. slot this past Thursday where it drew 4.9 million viewers, ABC’s replay of the “Holey Moley” series debut telecast ranked No. 1 in the hour with Adults 18-49 (0.7/4) and added 3.5 million more Total Viewers to bring its Live + Same Day premiere total up to 8.4 million.   • ABC aired Wednesday’s Top 3 TV shows among Adults 18-49 with “Press Your Luck” (1.0/5), “Card Sharks” (0.9/4) and “Match Game” (0.8/4 – tied w/ CBS’ “The Amazing Race”), respectively. ABC’s “Press Your Luck” also repeated as Wednesday’s most-watched TV series overall (4.8 million). ABC’s “The View” averaged 2.540 million Total Viewers, 389,000 Women 25-54 and 282,000 Women 18-49, during the week of June 10, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.
        
For the 2nd week in a row, “The View” posted was up in Women 18-49 both week to week (+2% – 282,000 vs. 276,000 – for w/o 6/3/19) and year to year (+6% – 282,000 vs. 265,000 – for w/o 6/11/18), hitting a 9-week high – since w/o 4/08/19.  

Season to date, amongst all network and syndicated daytime talk shows and news programs (24 Total), “The View” (2.808 million) ranks No. 4, trailing only “Dr. Phil” (4.115 million), “Ellen” (3.054 million) and “Live with Kelly and Ryan” (2.968 million).

Fueled by continuing coverage of the 2019 NBA Finals (Games 5 and 6) and strong premieres for its new Wednesday “Summer Fun & Games” lineup, ABC dominated its 3rd straight week, increasing its advantage over runner-up NBC to 49% in Total Viewers (6.1 million vs. 4.1 million) versus 13% the prior week, while nearly doubling NBC among Adults 18-49 (+89% – 1.7/9 vs. 0.9/5).

  • In viewers and young adults, ABC marked its strongest week in nearly 4 months– since the week of “The Oscars®” (w/o 2/18/19).

“Nightline” beat CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” (1.106 million, 300,000 and 217,000, respectively) by its largest Total Viewers margin (+129,000) in nearly 1 year and biggest advantages in Adults 25-54 (+179,000) and Adults 18-49 (+186,000) in one year – since weeks of 7/30/18 and 6/4/18, respectively, based on original telecasts. “Nightline” defeated NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” (1.055 million, 374,000 and 266,000, respectively) by its largest margins in Total Viewers (+180,000), Adults 25-54 (+105,000) and Adults 18-49 (+137,000) in 2 years – since w/o 6/5/17, based on original telecasts.      

“Nightline” improved on the year-ago week (1.158 million, 414,000 and 326,000, respectively, for w/o 6/11/18) across the board: Total Viewers (+7%), Adults 25-54 (+16%) and Adults 18-49 (+24%).

Season to date, “Nightline” is leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25-54 (+35,000 – 446,000 vs. 411,000) and Adults 18-49 (+30,000 – 330,000 vs. 300,000).

For the recently completed 2018-2019 broadcast season, “20/20” beat “Dateline” in Total Viewers (+4% – 4.9 million vs. 4.7 million) for the first time in 3 years and Adults 25-54 (+8% – 1.3/5 vs. 1.2/5) for the first time in 4 years. “20/20” tied “Dateline” in Adults 18-49, delivering its most competitive performance with the NBC program in the demo in 3 years. “20/20” also grew by double digits across the board: Total Viewers (+26%), Adults 18-49 (+29%) and Adults 25-54 (+18%), while “Dateline” declined by double digits across the board: Total Viewers (-19%), Adults 18-49 (-18%) and Adults 25-54 (-25%).   

Friday, June 14

From 9:00-11:00 p.m., ABC’s “20/20” improved on its most recent telecast (5/31/19) in Total Viewers (+6% – 3.7 million vs. 3.5 million), while matching its performance in Adults 18-49 (0.6/3) and Adults 25-54 (0.9/4). “20/20” saw its most-watched telecast in 10 weeks, while equaling its strongest numbers in both key Adult demos in 9 weeks – since 4/5/19 and 4/12/19, respectively.  

ABC’s “20/20” stood as Friday’s No. 1 newsmagazine, leading NBC’s “Dateline”(10:00-11:00 p.m.) across the board: Total Viewers (+12% – 3.7 million vs. 3.3 million), Adults 18-49 (+20% – 0.6/3vs. 0.5/3) and Adults 25-54 (+13% – 0.9/4 vs. 0.8/4). 

The two-hour “20/20” documentary reported on Martin MacNeill, a doctor and father of eight who murdered his wife and then had his mistress move in as the nanny.

During the week of June 10, 2019, ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” ranked as the No. 1 late-night talk show for the 3rd week in a row among Adults 18-49 (650,000), dominating NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” by 26% (517,000) and CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” by 63% (399,000).

“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” delivered the week’s Top 2 late-night telecastsin Adults 18-49 with its Monday (1.118 million on 6/10/19) and Thursday (882,000 on 6/13/19) broadcasts, respectively. In fact, Monday’s “Kimmel” marked the strongest telecast for any late-night talk show on any network so far this year with Adults 18-49.

Coming off a season high set the prior week, “Kimmel” held steady week to week with Adults 18-49 (650,000 vs. 669,000) to post its 2nd best performance this season.

“Kimmel” grew over the year-ago week (1.840 million and 493,000 on w/o 6/11/18) by 4% in Total Viewers and 32% with Adults 18-49 to stand as the only 11:35 p.m. talk show to deliver year-to-year gains, as CBS’ “Colbert” (-7% and -20%, respectively) and NBC’s “Fallon” (-10% and -18%, respectively) posted declines.

  • From 8:00-9:00 p.m., “President Trump: 30 Hours” dominated the second hour of CBS’ “60 Minutes” head-to-head by 50% with Adults 18-49 (0.6/3 vs. 0.4/2) and by 50% among Adults 25-54 (0.9/4 vs. 0.6/3). In fact, the ABC News special was the night’s No. 1 news program in the two key Adult demos, topping both hours of “60 Minutes.” This special edition of “20/20” presented an exclusive, wide-ranging interview over the course of two days with President Donald Trump, offering an unprecedented behind-the-scenes lens into the life of the 45th  president of the United States.

In fact, ABC claimed Wednesday’s Top 3 non-sports programs among Adults 18-49 with “Press Your Luck” (0.9/5), “Card Sharks” (0.9/4) and “Match Game” (0.8/4 – tied w/CBS’ “The Amazing Race”). ABC’s “Press Your Luck” was also Wednesday’s most-watched entertainment program overall (4.9 million). Despite facing the high-rated Stanley Cup conclusion, ABC scored its most-watched summertime Wednesday (Memorial Day-Labor Day) with regular programming in 5 years(4.4 million) – since 6/4/14.

  • Leading off the night from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ABC’s “Press Your Luck” time-slot premiere built on Tuesday’s early premiere and beat out its entertainment competition in the hour among Adults 18-49 (0.9/5), topping CBS’ “The Amazing Race” (+13% – 0.8/4) and Fox’s “MasterChef” (+29% – 0.7/4). “Press Your Luck” grew by strong double-digit percentages over its early premiere the prior night on Tuesday at 10:00 p.m. with Total Viewers (+58% – 4.9 million vs. 3.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (+29% – 0.9/5 vs. 0.7/4).



  • At 9:00 p.m., ABC’s debut of “Card Sharks” retained 100% of its Adult 18-49 lead-in to rank as the No. 1 entertainment show in the hour, dominating Fox’s series premiere of “First Responders Live” by 80% (0.9/4 vs. 0.5/3).   

  • At 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “Match Game” grew over last summer’s premiere(on 6/21/18) by 11% in Total Viewers (3.9 million vs. 3.5 million) and by 14% in Adults 18-49 (0.8/4 vs. 0.7/3). In viewers and young adults, “Match Game” topped all 6 of its first-run 2019 in-season telecasts earlier this year in January and February.

During the week of June 3, 2019, ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” grew over the prior week by 7% among Adults 18-49 (669,000 vs. 627,000) to score a new season high for the 2nd week in a row with its strongest performance in 1 year—since the week of 6/4/18.

“Kimmel” also grew for the 3rd straight week in Total Viewers (+3% – 2.102 million vs. 2.044 million) to attract its biggest weekly audience since mid-March—since the week of 3/11/19.

ABC’s “The View” averaged 2.605 million Total Viewers, 387,000 Women 25-54 and 267,000 Women 18-49, during the week of May 27, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.
        
For the 2nd week in a row, “The View” improved on the previous week (w/o 5/20/19) in Total Viewers (+2% – 2.605 million vs. 2.559 million), drawing its largest overall audience in 5 weeks – since w/o 4/22/19.   

Season to date, amongst all network and syndicated daytime talk shows and news programs (24 Total), “The View” (2.819 million) ranks No. 4, trailing only “Dr. Phil” (4.169 million), “Ellen” (3.087 million) and “Live with Kelly and Ryan” (2.979 million).

ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (1.303 million), Adults 25-54 (516,000) and Adults 18-49 (427,000) during the week of May 27, 2019, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. 

“Nightline” posted double-digit gains week to week (1.169 million, 405,000 and 297,000, respectively, for w/o 5/20/19) across the board: Total Viewers (+11%), Adults 25-54 (+27%) and Adults 18-49 (+44%). In fact, “Nightline” saw its largest overall audience in over 2 months and best key Adults numbers in nearly 1 year since weeks of 3/11/19 and 6/4/18, respectively.

On Thursday (5/30/19), “Nightline” turned in its strongest single-telecast performance in Total Viewers (1.802 million), Adults 25-54 (778,000) and Adults 18-49 (748,000) in nearly 1 year – since 6/6/18, 6/8/18 and 6/6/18, respectively.

Season to date, “Nightline” is leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25–54 (+28,000 – 442,000 vs. 414,000) and Adults 18–49 (+22,000 – 324,000 vs. 302,000).

Stories reported on “Nightline” last week included the road to stardom for Lil Nas X; a wide-ranging interview with former NBA star Lamar Odom and his daughter Destiny Odom; an exclusive interview with Caitlan Coleman, the ex-Taliban hostage mom who opened up about abuse she suffered from her husband; a one-on-one with DJ Khaled about fatherhood and his latest album; and a look at the one of the deadliest seasons to hit Mount Everest.
 
NOTE: Due to the Memorial Day holiday on Monday (5/27/19), all three programs were coded specials. In addition, CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” was retitled to “The Late Late Show-JC-ENC” and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” was retitled to “Late Night with Seth Meyers-SM” due to being encore telecasts. The retitled telecasts will not be included in the season averages.

ABC Monday Prime Time (8:00-11:00 p.m. – 4.8 million and 1.2/6 in AD18-49):
Featuring “The Bachelorette” and a repeat “Celebrity Family Feud” facing NBC’s Stanley Cup Finals for the 2nd week in a row, ABC repeated as Monday’s dominant entertainment net, beating out Fox with the season premiere of “So You Think You Can Dance” by 71% on the night in Adults 18-49 (1.2/6 vs. 0.7/3). In addition, ABC nearly matched NBC’s Stanley Cup prime-time coverage in Total Viewers (4.8 million vs. 5.0 million).

  • Airing from 8:00-10:00 p.m. against the fourth game of the Stanley Cup Finals, ABC’s “The Bachelorette” stood far and away as Monday’s top entertainment show among Total Viewers (5.5 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.5/7), finishing as the night’s No. 1 TV series for the 4th week in a row with young adults.The Bachelorette” grew for the 2nd straight week against the professional hockey championship in Total Viewers (+17% – 5.5 million vs.  4.7 million) and shot up 36% in Adults 18-49(1.5/7 vs. 1.1/5), hitting new season highs on both measures. In addition, “The Bachelorette” advanced 7% from its comparable fourth telecast of last season among Adults 18-49 (1.4/6 on 6/18/18).

ABC Delivers 6 of the Week’s Top 10 TV Shows in Adults 18-49

With “The Bachelorette” and the first two games of the 2019 NBA Finals, ABC dominated the week (w/o 5/27/19) by 1.4 million viewers over its nearest competition (5.4 million vs. 3.9 million – NBC and CBS tied) and doubled runner-up NBC in Adults 18-49 (1.6/8 vs. 0.8/4). In fact, leading the week by 100% in Adults 18-49, ABC scored the biggest weekly winning advantage for any network since mid-February – since ABC won “Oscar®” week by 111% in young adults (w/o 2/18/19).

ABC delivered a resounding 6 of the Top 10 TV programs of the week in Adults 18-49 with the “NBA Finals on ABC” Games 1 and 2 tying for the No. 1 position: “NBA Finals on ABC-GM1” and “NBA Finals on ABC-GM2” tied at No. 1, “NBA Countdown-GM1” – No. 5, “The Bachelorette SP” – No. 6, “Jimmy Kimmel Live Game Night 1” and “NBA Countdown-GM2” tied at No. 10.
