NORAH O’DONNELL TO REPORT FROM THE TEXAS-MEXICO BORDER TONIGHT
IN A CBS NEWS EXCLUSIVE, O’DONNELL WILL INTERVIEW ACTING DHS SECRETARY KEVIN MCALEENAN AND GO INSIDE THE NATION’S LARGEST MIGRANT PROCESSING CENTER FOR A FIRST LOOK AT THE CONDITIONS
CBS EVENING NEWS anchor and managing editor Norah O’Donnell will report from the Texas-Mexico border for an exclusive interview with Acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan and go inside the nation’s largest migrant processing center for a first look at the conditions.
O’Donnell’s exclusive interview with McAleenan and her original reporting from the border will air tonight, July 17 on the CBS EVENING NEWS (6:30-7:00 PM, ET). O’Donnell will anchor the broadcast live from McAllen, Texas.
The Ursula processing center on the Texas-Mexico border is the facility where Americans first saw pictures of children in cages. News cameras have not been allowed inside to independently capture what is happening there in the last five years.
O’Donnell’s rare access inside the Ursula facility follows CBS News’ extensive reporting on immigration and the effect it is having on the country. In the series SEPARATED AND COUNTING, CBS News looks at the real-life impact of the zero-tolerance policy through the eyes of families that have been separated and features interviews with families and children split apart at the U.S.-Mexico border. Some of the children have not seen their families for nearly a year.
O’Donnell, who debuted Monday as anchor and managing editor of the CBS EVENING NEWS, has established a reputation as a trusted voice, scoring big interviews. The interview with McAleenan and her reporting will also be featured across CBS News broadcasts and platforms, including CBS THIS MORNING; CBSN, CBS News’ 24/7 streaming news service; CBSNews.com; and CBS News Radio. The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH NORAH O’DONNELL also streams in its entirety on CBSN every week night at 10:00 PM, ET.
