Science Channel Sets Record Highs in June and 2nd Quarter

(NEW YORK) - Science Channel's 2018 hot streak continued last month as the network enjoyed its highest rated June ever. The record-setting month also allowed for Science Channel to earn its highest rated second quarter in its history. June also marked the fifth time in the first six months of 2018 that the network has set monthly ratings records.
In both Primetime and Total Day, Science Channel hit highs in 2Q among Adults and Males 25-54 and Total Viewers P2+. 2Q was also the fifth consecutive quarter that the network has seen year over year growth in Primetime among adults 25-54. Wednesday nights were up 30% vs. 2017 behind premiere episodes of the robot fighting series BATTLEBOTS and longtime fan favorite OUTRAGEOUS ACTS OF SCIENCE while Sundays increased 28% with premieres of DEADLY INTELLIGENCE, NASA'S UNEXPLAINED FILES, UNEARTHED and COOPER'S TREASURE. Sophomore series MYSTERIES OF THE ABANDONED was up 38% over its first season ranking the engineering series as Science Channel's most watched series of 2018 to-date among Total Viewers P2+. In June, Science Channel hit highs in Primetime among Adults/Men/Women 25-54 as well as Total Viewers P2+. The network also saw impressions increase in Primetime 17% over 2017 in total viewers, making it the most watched June in its history. In Primetime, network ratings were up double digits over 2017 with Adults 25-54 (18%), Men 25-54 (20%), and Total Viewers P2+ (28%). Behind the success of BATTLEBOTS, Wednesdays in June were up 34% over 2017, while Sundays were the most watched night of the week with an increase of 43% over 2017.

(New York) - Science Channel's 2018 hot streak continued last month as the network enjoyed its highest rated May ever in Primetime among Adults/Men 25-54 and Total Viewers P2+. This marks the fourth time in five months that Science Channel has broken monthly ratings records among Adults 25-54 in Primetime, with February being the exception.
In total day, the month was also the highest rated May ever for the network with Adults/Men 25-54 and Total Viewers P2+, and the 12th consecutive month of year over year ratings growth among Adults 25-54.
May's surge was driven in part by the popular Tuesday night engineering series MYSTERIES OF THE ABANDONED that is Science Channel's most watched series of 2018. Wednesday nights was the most watched night of the week thanks to premiere episodes of BATTLEBOTS, up 52% over 2017, and Sunday nights were up 20% vs. 2017, with freshman series DEADLY INTELLIGENCE leading the way.

Compared to 2016, Science Channel Primetime ratings grew +12%/+14%/+17% among Adults/Men/Women 25-54 and were +20% among Total Viewers P2+. Among Adults 25-54 November, is the fourth consecutive month to see ratings growth over 2016.
Programs that drove November's ratings gains were season four premieres of WHAT ON EARTH?, which is averaging 475,000 total viewers, freshman series STRANGE EVIDENCE, with 470,000 total viewers, and season two of SECRETS OF THE UNDERGROUND, 440,000 total viewers.

Compared to 2016, these same Primetime ratings grew +29%/+21%/+30% among Adults/Men/Women 25-54 and were +14% among Total Viewers P2+.
Among the drivers of the October ratings gains were strong Tuesday nights, which grew 28% over 2016 behind space series SPACE'S DEEPEST SECRETS and THE PLANETS as well as the mystery programs WHAT ON EARTH? and STRANGE EVIDENCE. Saturday evenings were up 62% compared to 2016, due in part to the freshman series MYSTERIES OF THE MISSING, which averaged 472,000 total viewers.

In Primetime among Adults 25-54, the network tied for its highest rated 3Q ever, while being up +6% over 3Q16. The network also closed out 3Q17 with the highest rated September in its history in Primetime among Total Viewers P2+.
In total day, 3Q17 ranked as Science Channel's highest rated ever among Adults and Women 25-54, up +9% and +13% over 3Q16. The third quarter was highlighted by Science Channel's LIVE coverage of the Great American Eclipse from 12-2pm on August 21, which averaged one million P2+ viewers, making it the most watched telecast ever on the network.
In Primetime, September 2017, Science Channel was up in key demos over last year, +6%/+5%/+17% with Adults/Men/Women 25-54. This growth was driven by strong Saturday nights, up +69% with Adults 25-54 over 2016, led by freshman series MYSTERIES OF THE MISSING.

The network's coverage from 12-2pm ET brought in 1.0 million total viewers, making it the most watched telecast ever for Science Channel. The audience peaked at 1.3M from 1:18-1:24 PM ET, when Madras was experiencing totality.
Across ad-supported cable networks, Science Channel's live coverage from 12pm-2pm ET rated higher than others covering the eclipse including The Weather Channel, Fox News Channel, CNN, and MSNBC:

(New York) - Following the conclusion of its season last Saturday night, MYTHBUSTERS: THE SEARCH became Science Channel's highest rated new series among Persons 25-54 since 2011. Additionally, the finale, broadcast live on Saturday, February 25 at 9pm ET, broke into the Top 20 in key demos among Men and Adults in its timeslot across all of ad-supported cable in L+3.
For the season, the eight episode MYTHBUSTERS: THE SEARCH averaged 473K Total Viewers P2+. The final episode, which crowned Brian Louden and Jonathan Lung as new Mythbusters, averaged a season high 550K Total Viewers P2+. The finale also ranked among cable's Top 20 in its timeslot among Men 25-54 (#12), Persons 25-54 (#19), Men 18-49 (#10), and Persons 18-49 (#17).
The MYTHBUSTERS: THE SEARCH finale also brought in strong numbers on Science Channel's social platforms with more than a million impressions on Facebook and over 500,000 impressions on Twitter where it "trended" throughout the evening.
